  1. You could make is simpler by deploying a cruiser/carrier in the region, on patrol orders. Then, have it monitor the state of the station. Once it is emitting an SOS, the cruiser/carrier could drop out of the current conditional loop and perform a capture. The GBS currently supports this. For the station to emit SOS in the first place, it has to be disabled. This also can be tested for in a conditional loop. No, don't ask, I ain't writing it. Ask my student, SpcFX
  2. You are restricted to Terran/Mil
  3. hehe, simmer down SpacePhish, you and Parias are top on my list. Now someone please pass them the smelling salts
  4. This fleet stuff is really catching on and going fine. Congratulations goes to Tac and the Wraith fleet for structure integrity, layout, design and innovation. ...now, if I can get Tac to keep his fleet structure submission down to 2 files (.doc + .jpg), all will be fine in the universe. In case you guys were wondering, though the beta testers will have access to secure multiplayer servers once I release the BCM beta in the coming weeks, I will also be picking a few lucky ones from here, to help in the multiplayer test. As usual, I will use the same criteria I use when picking beta testers from the general populace. Please don't send me email, because then I definitely won't be picking you. And if you're a newbie to BC3K, you don't stand a chance of being selected. Hey Tac, you were on the beta testing list a while back but I don't see your name in the subscription list anymore? Did you submit a new email address? Looks like your old one got bumped because it kept barfing posts. [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-13-2000).]
  5. Pretty cool logos Tac. I haven't looked at your latest fleet structure docs yet (assuming you've brought it down to 2 files only), but I assume that it contains these wing descriptions and logos?
  6. Their earnings are down $53m. Think about that for a minute. [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-13-2000).]
  7. The April issue of PC Accelerator, sister mag to PC Gamer, contains a 2-page preview of these titles. Here is a quote from the final paragraphs. If you come across a copy, pick it up! quote: "The whole project is once again, ambitious, but the potential continues to grow. Lets hope that Smart has learned lessons from his rigors thus far in the industry. With great graphic support helping to create a distinctive look to the different elements of the galaxy, BCM will hopefully enjoy a smoother journey to store shelves, and better consumer reaction. This game may still need to be dumbed down in order to attract the wider audience, but its certain that any discussion of forthcoming space sims such as Starlancer, Tachyon and Freelancer, should include Battlecruiser Millennium as genuine competition." 8. The correct command is CTRL+` as stated in the keyboard commands sheet. Those quick ref guides in the online manual, don't appear in the printed version because some of the key commands were changed. The keyboard template is always correct. Like I said, it works here.
  9. Try this, assuming you've patched to v2.09 properly. To find out if you have patched to this version properly, the BC3000AD.GLD file would be 2,200,026 bytes and dated 1-04-00 run sound setup and select No Sound Device for both digital and midi music. Save the option. Add /n and /v1 to the bc3k.bat file. Do *not* add anything else. I don't think its a mouse problem otherwise the game will give you an error message when it is displaying the startup diagnostics console messages (the black screen with scrolling text). You may also want to disable the 'close on exit' button in the BC3K shortcut, so then when it exits, you still have the screen output. You should be looking for any startup errors in the diagnostics displayed during startup. You could try hitting the PAUSE key to stop it, so that you can read it before the game actually starts. I can't remember if you said the Intro ran or not. If it doesn't, then I'm positive that this problem is related to your card's VESA support. That intro is not even part of the game. It is run outside of the game and only uses VESA support. If the intro doesn't run, then this problem is video card related. And if this is the case, then SDD is required. Again, I have a Savage4 here and I have no problems running it, don't need any /v? parameter nor SDD. And the game runs fine.
  10. btw, I came across some DX7 drivers for the Savage4. Use at your own risk http://home.wanadoo.nl/jankees/w9x82007.zip
  11. Never 'eard of either one of them.
  12. Check the soapbox and then go sign that petition - on the double!.
  13. Follow the FAQ instructions and start from scratch. You don't even need the /v1 parameter for the Savage4. I know, because I have a machine here that has one in it. There's gotta be something we're missing, in whatever it is you are doing. btw, what sound card do you have? Did you run the sound setup program? Did the sound test work?
  14. Too bad we don't have multiplayer up yet - otherwise this would be a perfect time for a missing man formation in honor of a fallen comrade. Anyway, Rattler, please remind me when we go live.
  15. Rattler, when this is all done, put me out of my misery and send me the URLs to the structure, for all Fleets. This way, I have it all in a single email when I get around to updating the Fleet page.
  16. SpcFX why'd you have to go and tell 'im? Tac, look in the objects.scr file and you'll see the attributes for everything. To change the actual loadouts, look in the objclass.scr file.
  17. quote: Come on guys, how many people actually read the manual when they first get a game. I've had it for a short while now and I must have read about 5 pages from it tops. It is so much easier for most people to simply hop on the internet and ask the question on a public forum. Well therein lies the rub. BC3K is not that kind of game and this is what were trying to discourage. In order to play this game, you must read the manual. Every article, every review, every gamer, BC3K fan or not, knows this about BC3K. And it is for that very reason that we discourage people from, rather than reading the manual, just jumping in and creating thread after thread, so that someone can regurgitate the manual for them. What is the point in that. We have a niche title and as such, a niche fan base. I don't think anyone here is anxious to attract a crowd that does not, for lack of a better word, belong. Sure I could do with the money, by my peace of mind comes first. I'd rather have 10 gamers learning the game and hanging around long enough to buy the next one, than have 15 who, maybe, will stick around. Thats the way I've always been and thats why, funny enough, BC3K is still around today. I've remained focused on this niche group and they are the ones who, in essense, propped this franchise that Derek built. Every beta tester I have today, came from this community and many more will come from it, as result of the game attracting a core, studious group of people. Then again, I have to apologize for the likes of Mech et al. Every now and then we get a total loon - so we just ban 'em. We have all manner of personalities here, ranging from the serious ones like SpcFX, Thomas Siemens et al, to the whacked out crew headed by Parias, SpacePhish and co. It is an ecclectic crew and even though I too can be an absolute jerk to them, skirmishes don't last very long because at the end of the day, we all share a common premise when we meet here. Bear in mind that these are the same people who do play other games too, btw. So, no, we never have and never will encourage lazy gamers to pollute the board with issues that are clearly in the manual. The amount of time I spent doing that manual, was so that gamers would find everything in there. In fact, these past few days, I've seen posts from newbies about issues ranging from jump anomaly use to fuel usage. I mean, think about that for a minute. And of course, it is at the discretion of the vets in determining whether they should respond in detail or just point the person to the manual (the normal course of action). Remember too that every vet here, started out as a newbie and mostly back in the days when wasn't even a manual to speak of. So, why should anyone else get a free ticket? Anyway, we've had this debate before and it gets funnier everytime it starts up, because nothings going to change any time soon. The chaos over at the other gaming boards, is indicative of the lack of order. It will never happen here. And the good thing is that whether I am around or not, I can always count on everyone here, admin, moderator or otherwise, to uphold our standards. Why? Because it works - for us. 18. I have never known anyone that is unable to install, setup and run the game after all these suggestions. Dunno about the other guys, but I'm at a total loss, especially since your system specs are more than adequate to run the game. Just return it to the store for a refund. You can pick up Freespace2, cheap these days.
  19. It'll never happen.
  20. I suggest that you uninstall and start from scratch. After uninstalling from control panel, be sure to remove the install folder. Make sure you remove DD from your system. You should not even need the /v1 parameter in the .bat file to run under the Savage4. So, you may want to ensure that you have the latest Savage4 drivers from their website. 21. /salute ------------------ Derek Smart Supreme Commander GCV Warmonger - Prime Fleet [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-11-2000).]
  22. It has always been in there. Did you actually look?
  23. I'm not checking for dead crew in the shuttle, which is why you can still control them. Think autopilot. In BCM, I am doing these checks in much the same way that I do for the Interceptors.
  24. Nah, we don't hate newbies. Why would we? They make perfect targets. No seriously, the guys have done a fine job of explaining the premise here. We just like to run a tight ship. In fact, the newbies have a forum all of their own and regs are forbidden from alienating them. The problem, as they mention, is that most newbies just want to create, thread after thread after thread, posing the same questions over and over. Eventually, the forum gets full of the same issues. The site has an excellent search function that can be used to scan for all sorts of topics. In fact, for that reason, I don't even prune the site. You can search as far back as '97 and find a topic. Yes, my ISP is livid because of the disk space usage for that aspect alone. I mean, I've seen newbies post questions that are documented in the manual and then get pissed when, two days later, there are no replies! There you have it.
  25. Yes, in light of this problem, you have my permission to burn a CD-ROM. Sorry for the inconvenience.
