ORION FLEET : Update
Supreme Cmdr replied to Blades's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
OK, in-message spelling errors are not such a big deal, but, c'mon, thread topics? -
Yep, you guys have four days and if I don't get those rank and file structures, I'm trashing everything you guys have done, declaring it obsolete and you'll have to wait until I find time to sort it out myself. You've been warned.

quote: So to quote myself, please pretend that CO means commanding officer for the sake of the profiles. It will be adjusted when I compile them into the site. And frankly, I don't want to deal with having to send out new templates. I'm putting in a lot of effort on this to have such trivial concerns take a lime-light. So, for everyone who is confused, on the template CO means commanding officer. I'll adjust it for the compilation Get rid of it. CO = Combat Officer If you ladies truly want to rock the boat, then use CCO = Chief Commanding Officer [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 02-24-2000).]

Spacephish, thats *bollocks*. It uses the same datafiles so it will not crash because you didn't start a new game. -
*chuckle* Deathwish doesn't begin to explain it.

BC3K v2.09 Windows Version
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Please don't start asking for stuff. DirectX, yeah right. Fullscreen works fine here and some others have it running. Dunno. Anyway, its unsupported, so you're on your own. -
An NPC ship doing a FLEE, tells it to dock at the nearest station. If there isn't one, it will go to a planet. Since your ships can't dock by themselves, due to the requirement for you to handle it yourself as well as the Frontend screen, they can't FLEE. If they did, you'd never be able to get them back. Imagine that you BC flees and docks at GALCOM HQ. The object would no longer exist in the world. Then what?
-
In BCM, you can tell the marines (and any crew member) exactly where to go. The universe is littered with cloaked ships. What, you think you're the only one with access to the technology? Yeah, right.

I was messing around and decided to do a build and see if it would work. It did. www.bc3000ad.com/downloads/bc3k209win.txt www.bc3000ad.com/downloads/bc3k209win.zip

Max The fleet designation in your sig is not formatted correctly. Rico You are right, but remember, you don't have to role play at all. Being part of a fleet just gives your character an identity. If you log on to a server, you are an immediately recognized entity there. Also, if you are good (EP, Rank etc), then, you gain respect from others. Though the multiplayer game will also handle ranks, it frees the Fleet Leaders from having to worry about that aspect. Once I get the final rank structure that am waiting for, I will incorporate it into the game structure. So, your participation in the game world, will determine your rank when you are no in that world, ie, your sig on this forum will reflect your stats. The only special case will be Fleet Leaders. For them, I will hard code their ranks on the server, so that, Rattler, for instance, is already leader of the Insurgents and does not have to do anything to get promoted. Further, in multiplayer, since the NPCs can be turned on or off, the Fleet Leaders of different affiliates (GALCOM vs Insurgents etc), can all get together and join a server and just go about beating up on each other. Fleet Leaders can also use servers to help their members gain experience, rank etc and also be able to give them assignments. For instance, I don't expect Rattler to send his green recruits on a skirmish involving an attack on GALCOM HQ. They'll get annihilated by the human or NPC pros. So, I'd expect him (if they are playing on a controlled server) to give then specific assignments based on their experience and ranks. Even if he does not happen to be playing, its up to the members to play carefully. Because if your character dies on a server, though you will immediately spawn back at your base, each death reduces your EPs and a reduction of EPs, reduces your rank. And since your stats are saved, you can't cheat. Of course, you can have several characters at once but thats a gameplay issue you'd have to deal with personally. Whats the point of having several characters if the Fleet Leader only reconizes a single one. Besides, we probably won't allow it. So, if you have a Terran Military character, nothing is stopping you from having a Terran Insurgent character, except that I probably won't allow it. If you want to play without having your stats affected, then play on a non-role playing server because they don't save your stats. Only the servers that we control and which are for structured role playing, are persistent and save your stats when you log off. You would need your own id and password, to enter those servers, in much the same way you post on this site. More on this, as we go on. But, as I've said before, multiplayer is going be totally kick-ass. [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 02-19-2000).]

And just in case there is any confusion here, Rattler's explanation of how this whole fleet thing started, is spot on. It was not my idea. I simply let it ride because I trusted that it would amount to something. It has. In my world, I have not fully fleshed out the direction that the Insurgents are going. But, like GALCOM, they are a well structured bunch and not the bunch of rabid terrorists that GALCOM makes them out to be. Far from it. As Supreme Commander of GALCOM forces, Insurgent One (Rattler) has as much control over his Insurgent forces, as I do over GALCOM. Unlike me, whose strings get pulled by EarthCOM every chance they get, Rattler does not have that problem because he is at the top of the food chain and the organization of that caste is maintained by a group of loyal and disciplined commanders. Rattler, in real life, has somehow managed to bring those background characters into this premise, via the role playing, organization etc, something I haven't even done. Heck, nowhere in the manual do you see any Insurgent character. All you see are GALCOM and aliens. That will change with BCM because things going on here, have given me a lot of ideas on how to merge real-life with game-life. Terrorists don't get assets like New America or any of the new stations created for the Insurgents. Allocating resources to do them from scratch, takes time, money and resources and if it wasn't worth it, I wouldn't do it. Apart from being my friends, Rattler and the group of people in the Insurgency, EarthCOM, GALCOM etc, are trusted with what they are doing and they adhere to the guidelines imposed by my creation. If they didn't, I would've pulled the plug by now. In conclusion, in much the same way I gave most of my testers admin/mod access to this board, they will also have recognized control over multiplayer servers. So, if you start to misbehave on a server, they can kick you. Period. Make no mistake, we control the servers and each one will be geared toward a specific game type. Those of you who want to be lawless, can play amongst yourselves on those types of servers. Every server that I control, will be geared toward a specific premise. In fact, only the controlled servers will have a persistent module which allows logging off and on, with your stats saved on the server. So, if you are roleplaying, you can only play on servers of that type etc. Anyway, I'm going off track here. But the point I was trying to make is that this whole role playing issue is the primary reason behind my multiplayer design and architecture. If it wasn't worth it, I wouldn't do it. Period. So, if you want to be a part of something or to be a recognized character, not some sniveling idiot, join a fleet, follow orders and see how far it takes you. If you don't want to follow orders, then, we already have specific rules governing the naming of non-structured castes such as Raider, Assassin, Hacker, Trader etc. In fact, now that I think about it, I need fleet leaders to dig up those rules, put them in a single document and send to me. I will clean it up and post it on the site, so that all can see. It would be easier to read a page dedicated to explaining how to join a fleet, caste, which are available etc, than to have to search the boards for the rules. In fact, you can also now be any alien type you want to be. It is up to the fleet leader to decide whether to accept aliens. For eg, if someone wants to be a Gammulan and asks Rattler to join as a Gammulan Insurgent, thats up to him to decide. He'd be a fool to accept a Gammulan in the ranks, but then again, maybe the Gammulan is a defector. Thats his problem, not mine. And of course, am still waiting for the final document with the ranks structure. That is all.

Chris, one more unfounded outburst like that against any member of this board, and this time, you will be booted for good. You were booted before and Rattler had me allow you back in. I've just about had it with your crap. You have no discipline whatsover and yet, you want to be a part of an Insurgent structure? You belong in the Raider or Hacker caste. The Insurgents are a respected and organized entity in the game world, not lawless, delinquent, sniveling fools like the character you tend to portray. This will be your last warning. Shape up or get the hell of my board!

I deleted the post and killed his alias because I didn't like the tone of his post. Though it seemed sincere (like the current one), it seemed like it was blatantly sarcastic (call me God, I rock and all that stuff) because no fan can be that amazed at the game. So, for that, I was wrong. I got the email that tech support sent to me. So, I told him to re-register and to keep the Derek Smart is a God type rhetoric, to a minimum. Its bad enough that every detractor this side of SOL says I have a cult going on here. Can't prove them right now, can we?

Good question. I don't have a clue what happened to SCID. They're all probably AWOL.

You must have downloaded them before v2.09 versions were uploaded. Each time a new patch is done, all Mods have to be rebuilt using the new engine or they won't work properly. As you can see, on 2-11-00, I told you that the files were wrong. You should have just downloaded them then. My files have not changed and today, to be certain the links were OK, I downloaded it again, unzipped, checked it, and posted the files for Papi. I'd like to add to Tac's excellent response. Check the Navchart appendix file and look in the TYPE column of the planet. That should give you a hint of a general idea of what type of minerals to expect. That table also gives you the inflation rate variable. The planets are not bare. You need the MapPak Mod to populate them. It contains over 7000 surface mission zones across the entire galaxy. Mining drones are not high value threat targets, so, they will rarely get attacked unless you dropped them in the middle of a really hostile area. You are Terran/Military in Free Flight. There is just a typo in the description of that default FF script. I think I corrected it in some of the other scripts, for instance, the one in GBSMOD1 The world does not revolve around you. Just like the game says.
