Read the thread again. Those who did, solved their problem from it. I have two computers with Asus P2B-LS boards, which have onboard SCSI and Ethernet controllers and they work fine. Those settings in your config.sys are bogus and not required. You've obviously gone screwing around in your files and somehow ended with two SCSI drivers in the config.sys and one in the autoexec.bat. Then you wonder why you have no memory? What do you think? You can just add drivers (bogus ones at that) to those files and not run out of conventional memory? Further, WIN9x comes with built-in SCSI drivers and there is no need to have those drivers in your config files. Jumping to a target has nothing to do with memory anyway. Orion Starstation: The Orion Lounge
Supreme Cmdr replied to Joseph Bosch's topic in Role Playing Discussions
As I emerged from my ready room and walked into the forward command area, I could barely contain the knot that I felt in my stomach. The quiet humming of computer equipment and the background chatter from my commlink unit, didn't do anything to take my off what I was thinking. It seems as if I'm always running off somewhere and more I performed, the more likely I am to get thrust into some new assignment. When I gave up the safety of a desk job back on Earth, I thought I was doing it so that I could continue my adventures in space. Even with all the dangers, challenges and unforeseen problems, it was still some sort of safe haven. I walked into the forward command area advised my officers, via commlink, to meet in Operations for an important mission brief. As I punched in my access codes to call up the MISCON briefing, I kept wondering what all the hush-hush was about and what had occured since we were called out of Procyon three days ago. I read the mission briefing the first time, then again, to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting anything. What I saw just reaffirmed my notion that this Procyon conflict was going to thrust GALCOM into yet another conflict that would stress its resources across the galaxy. I checked my inflight roster and noticed that a new team of marines from the 15th SMB were scheduled to come aboard in a few hours. Some of these guys, like some the ships going on this assignment, won't be coming back. With a casual glance at the bridgeviewer, I turned and walked through the door. It was time to give the crew the news. Tomorrow at 17:00hrs Earth time, we launch. quote: THEATRE OF OPS PROCYON / OMICRON ERIDANI MISSION CLASS OPERATION: GALACTIC SHIELD TASK ORIGINATOR UFN Commander, the situation in Procyon is steadily going from bad to worse and it does not look like it is going to get any better. Though we have been an observation force in the past years, maintaining neutrality in the region as talks continue between the Empirians and the Vesperons over control of the region, a new variable has been introduced to this conflict. We now have confirmed reports that the Vesperons, in an attempt to tip the scales, have been employing the use of mercernary raiders and Insurgents, to further destabilize the region and claim victory. They have also initiated a direct attack on the stations within the Procyon regions. The UFN has broken off its diplomatic status with the Vesperons and as of this morning, they were effectively no longer a tentative member of GALCOM. In addition, the Procyon and Procin stations are under heavy attack and will most likely be under hostile control by the time we have new forces in the region. This mission, commanders, is the largest co-ordinated strike in the history of GALCOM. Never before has a strike of this magnitude, ever been executed to such a scale. This strike will be co-ordinated on several fronts as follows: PRIME FLEET will proceed to Canaan and (1) deploy a marine strike team from the 15th Space Marine Battalion to destroy the Badran and Frellis starbases as well as all supporting assets in the vicinity (2) proceed to Omicron Eridani and capture the Eridani and Ramis stations. On successful completion, the fleet is to maintain a patrol profile in the system until otherwise advised. ORION FLEET will proceed to Procyon and (1) deploy a marine strike team from the 7th Orbital Marine Battalion to destroy the raider base on Actis-IV as well as the Insurgent base on Actis-V (2) defend or re-capture the Procyon station. ISS FLEET will proceed to Procyon and (1) deploy a marine strike team from the 666th Covert Ops Arm to assist the 7th Orbital Marine Battalion in the destruction of the raider and Insurgent bases on Actis-IV and Actis-V (2) defend or re-capture the Procin station. WRAITH FLEET will remain on patrol profile in Polaris and (1) deploy marine strike teams from the 15th Space Marine Battalion and the 7th Orbital Marine Battalion to destroy all Insurgent bases detected on Polaris-1 and Polaris-2 (2) vector all non-military traffic out of Polaris 2, preventing them from entering the strike zone. The task of the Wraith Fleet is particularly to terminate, with extreme prejudice, any and all hostile ships, related to the conflict in an attempt to prevent them from entering Procyon. SCID Fleet will patrol all areas of conflict within Procyon and terminate any and all detected space or planetary Insurgent assets. Commanders, keep it simple. Keep it clean. Make it swift. -
heh, I'm sure we'll run into you in Procyon Rattler. btw, I won't be posting to the RPG thread until I have uploaded the mission this weekend. My next post will be the actual briefing text, with a link to the mission file. I promise to have it up tomorrow so that we can have a blast this weekend. btw, it requires 2.09 preview.
-
Lynx, you are incorrect. Read my post above again. MISCON has audio/video capabilities. Duh!

btw, here is what Operations look like. It is huge as I'm sure you can tell from the pics. http://www.bc3000ad.com/images/screen_shot...3020ad/sp41.jpg http://www.bc3000ad.com/images/screen_shot...3020ad/sp42.jpg http://www.bc3000ad.com/images/screen_shot...3020ad/sp43.jpg

hehe, SpcFX is the only one who noticed thats where I'm headed. In fact, I've already got the ACM mission almost finished and I'll pass it on to you for testing, modification etc. Its gonna be cool. I'm gonna be doing the briefing when I post to the RP forum tonite. I'm just waiting to see how many RPGers actually in MISCON and awaiting my arrival for the mission briefing. I noticed that some folks headed back to their ship. hehe, they need to be in the Operations section of their ship because the briefing takes place at GHQ and they pipe the feed to our ships over a secure channel, instead of at the MISCON area of the station. By the time I do the posting, the names of those that are in the briefing, will each get the same copy of the .MIS script but, the other participants in the skirmish will be NPCs of the same name. So, for instance, Blades playing the mission, will see NPC controlled craft with TTDs of the other RPGers, i.e, myself. So, for instance, when I signal the end of the battle (maybe a few days later), each person can post their experiences, from their perspective. This means that, for instance, in Blades game, the mission succeeded, but in, say SpcFX game, it failed. You could also post your accounting of what you observe the other RPGers, controlled by the NPCs, did. For peace sake, I'm going to make the ships of all RPGs controlled by the NPCs, invincible, this way, we don't lose participants. I will also do a variation for the Insurgents (Rattler and his crew) and make their NPCs controlled RPGer ships, invincible. Its gonna be a blast. Could be interesting. Lets hope that whoever becomes a part of this, sees it to the end. I don't particularly like half-baked and/or incomplete projects that have anything to do with my property.

It is only a preliminary judgement. Nothing to get excited about.

The commotion kinda broke the monotony of the evening as Karen and I turned around to see what it was about. Figures. Just as I was about to resume conversation, my commlink unit went off. As I checked the message, I noticed that several cmdrs did the same. Well, thats it, briefing time. ..ok, Karen, I guess thats it, we'll resume this later. I'll probably see you at the briefing over at MISCON. Be careful out there With that, I walked purposefully out of the room to freshen up for the mission briefing scheduled to start in 30 mins. Here we go again I thought. -
Disney? Where? Boxed v2.0 set? What do you mean?

LOL, I created this thread so that we can discuss the on-going RPG, without ruining the flow of the thread with none-RPG posts (like the one I did). Anyway, those last two were just too funny. Nice call Blades.

quote: Rattler, I kinda like that. You sneaking in and blending in the lounge is cool. Just the kind of thing you'd expect from an Insurgent with forged security clearance papers. However, for the sake of clarity, you cannot use any of the information you read here, to your advantage, if this RP ends up in a Procyon skirmish that you will most likely be involved in. The same goes for the rest of you. Meanwhile, just so you guys know, we're all headed for Procyon after the briefing. My upcoming post will signal the exit from the Lounge. From that point on, it will be in-ship related posts, tactical, combat etc. Oh, we need more commanders and especially a primary Empirian, Vesperson and some Insurgent commanders, in the fray. -

I was watching with amusement at a group of jarheads having a go at hand wrestling and thinking about the days when I was young, restless, full of life foolish, when, like the sound the stylus of a 20th century vinyl record player makes when dragged across the disc, my thoughts were interupted by the sound of her voice. I actually jumped when I heard my name, her voice. Karen! I knew it was her. Never forget a face. It had been so long since I'd see her. That first and last date, if you could call it that, had been a disaster. From the sound of her voice, I wonder if she's forgiven me for dashing off in the middle of dinner and off to my latest crisis, with nary a commsmail back saying where I was. I couldn't. I heard that she had been re-assigned and I have been wondering what would happen if I contacted her. Now this. I had to run into her here, of all places. I must look like a wreck. Haven't shaved since yesterday and I was growing a subtle stuble to match my unkempt hair and equally creased uniform. I was in such a hurry to get off my ship and I guess a quick drink has turned into a chance encounter. Earlier this week, I thought I had heard her voice in a securelink channel onboard a vessel operating in Procyon. Can't remember the name of the craft now because they were not operating under my directive. If it was her, that would explain why she is here, the watering hole of the Terran Quadrant. ..h, h, hi Karen, long time no see. My, you look...uhm, great. Long time no speak; how have you been? quote: Note: Great, now we've gone an' given ol' warhorse a love interest? This is gonna be fun. Let me just add that old ironjaws here is a personality train wreck. never been married. doesn't want to either no kids. doesn't want any either one younger brother (33), a covert ops marine assigned to a covert ops strike fleet operating in the Gammulan quadrant. They get along great though they are still at odds over the brother's choice of career path. family are from old Earth both parents deceased a loner, doesn't have many friends and only a few girlfriends over the years is definitely not a romantic. The notion is seemingly lost on him but, he is soft at heart when you can get behind that titantium hull personality. -

As I watched the young commander wander off, I couldn't help but wonder how long he'd last out there. GALCOM has been on an aggressive recrouting excercise these past few months and now they were actually giving commanders with hardly any combat experience, ship command of their own. And they wonder why we're out of money. A fully fitted Battlecruiser costs billions of galcreds and yet, they would risk it all, just to have the numbers out there. I beckoned the bartender and ordered another glass of water and looked at my watch. Still shaken from what seemed like a ghost in the crowd earlier, I continued looking around to see if I could see the familiar figure again. The intrusion by the young commander Bosch made me lose sight of what I was focusing on. I guess word had already gotten around that I was here because the music had just gotten better. The speakers were now playing a symphony and funny enough, people seemed to be trying to whisper in order to keep their conversations private. I looked at my watch again. Another 15 mins and its time for the commanders debriefing for the upcoming mission, back to Procyon. -

Yeah, pretty cool. I have added your site to the Links page. Now, you need to contact the person handling the webring and tell them to add your site to the webring. They should have already removed the older Orion site from there by now. If not, make them aware of it. I keep forgetting who handles the webring. Someone jar my memory please. Thanks. -

...Commander Bosch indeed. Well, don't you salute a superior officer anymore? Karl said with an ever so subtle chuckle. ..as far as Procyon is concerned, its a mess. The Vesperons are trying to claim the region. The Empirians don't want that to happen for obvious reasons and we are stuck in the middle because we want any links built in the region to be multi-national controlled. So naturally, we are caught in the middle. And to make matters worse, the Vesperons are rumored to be using hired Insurgent allied mercs to further distabilize the region. And of course the Insurgents will take every opportunity to seek out GALCOM targets of opportunity. The worse case scenario is if the Syrions decide to get involved especially since they've made it clear that no links to Sarien will be allowed. Its bad enough that they've weathered to major wars with the Gammulans who attempted to build a link from Gamma-1 to Sarien. I already filed my report in which I confirmed the existence of Insurgent forces operating in the region. I suspect that several Battle Fleets will be dispatched to the area shortly under the Operation Procyon Entity banner. Like I said, this whole mess is getting out of hand and very soon, we'd be involved in yet another major skirmish that we have no business being involved in. -

Battle scarred from a skirmish with Insurgents enroute from a patrol scan in Lyrius, Karl sauntered over to the already crowded bar. As he walked over, some off-world personnel turned their heads in recognition as a few marines wearily gestured a salute. Barely acknowledging the recognition, he uttered a subtle ...as you were, people and edged into a seat made vacant by an obviously alchohol plastered marine, in a hurry to make himself scarce. As the young marine disappeared into the crowd milling around the bar, Karl settles down in his seat and beckons the bartender. ...glass of icecold H20 please he uttered; his voice barely audible above the din of bad techno music, slurred conversations and the occasional hollering as some hapless fool tried to outshout everyone else in an attempt to render his speech audible. Turning around, he gazes at the people in the room, wondering how many gave a toss about the conflict GALCOM was currently involved with in Procyon and whether or not they had really thought about their chances of returning to this bar in one piece, let alone, alive, sometime in the not too distant future. He had his own cross to bear, this weary man. The life he had known, the corp he served since an early age, now seemingly disjointed and ripped from inside by political backbiting and budget cuts. With the upcoming budget review and hints of the spending cuts for the new MK1 Battlecruiser carriers, he just wondered how long before others defected or just plain upped and left, to become traders, or worse, insurgents. The bartender returned with his glass of water, breaking his concentrated silence, ..would that be all Commander?. Yes he muttered, as he raised the glass and took a sip, savoring every drop of the cool fluid. As the glass came to rest on the table, he could barely make out a figure in his peripheral vision. Turning around to confirm his view, he could not believe his eyes.... Note: If we're all here, I guess we could have our characters talk to each other. So, for instance, Bosch could talk to me and when I post, I would respond back or something like that. Right now, there is a major skirmish in Procyon involving the Vesperons and the Empirians. We, as usual are in the middle of it. There are lots of Insurgent mercs operating in the area on the side of the Vesperons. The latest skirmishes involve keeping them outta there while at the same time, keeping the Vesperons at bay until something is sorted out. VOTE for the new Orion Fleet Leader

ROTFLMAO!!!

If the patch were corrupted, you would not have been able to play the game. I suspect that you are still screwing up somewhere and I'm not going to guess where. So, you're on your own because all instructions are in the FAQ. If the software version behaves fine and the 3Dfx version doesn't, it signals a driver problem. Did u try the Voodoo drivers on this site? Did you go into the display properties for the Monster card and limit the texture memory, disable triple buffering etc? Did u adjust your config.sys file in order to free up more conventional memory?
-
You have a standard bad install, bad patch, bad configuration issue going on. Go read the FAQ and start from scratch with your install. Also, only use the Glide drivers from this site if you have the latest drivers for the 3Dfx card and the game still won't work.
-
First, remove the close on exit tick mark on the shortcut so that you get to see what error message is displayed after it exits. Did you not see this in the FAQ? As for 'freeing more', nobody here has a crystal ball, so how the heck do you expect anyone to know what you have in your config.sys and autoexec.bat files?
-
There is no deadline. Just get it over with, soon.
