SC, Thank you for bringing back the com chatter to us TBeach guys. I missed it. Cheers

Hmmm.. let's see, if all the long time vets get a carrier, and run around cloaked, that leaves all the... ahem... visible targets for the rest of us to command... add the fact that we noobs will end up with the leftovers... hmmm... I smell a turkey shoot. [rp] "Fleet Comander Tac, Oban reporting for asset assignment. Sir!" "Oh Hello there Oban, here's your baby, isn't she a beaut. You will do us proud son." Fleet CO Tac says as he gingerly puts down a red paint can and shows Oban the GCV Sitting Duck. "Ah Sir.... whats the large bullseye doing on the side of my cruiser, and is that rust right beside the "Kick me" sign, where are all the PTA's? I thought they put this ship out of commission back in 3002" "Son .. Son..easy there.. Ships are never put out of commission.. She just needed to be ahh .. er.. refitted .. yes thats it, refitted.. and thats the new wing logo for your squadron. Yes,you know the "boobs" squadron." "Boobs sir?" "yes Oban , Boobs, you now those battlecruiser noobs whe were dumb enough to think they were going to get a prime asset in the MP operation." Tac chuckles to himself shaking his head ruefully. "Silly boobs". "Now, Commander Boob, er I mean Oban, saddle up son we have your first assignment. Your going to escort Cmdr. Tyrn and Cmdr. Dreada on an assault on New America. Tyrn will be in a Megaron, Dreada in a Nightstar, they will be cloaked of course. You are to ride shotgun as escort, after you go in youself and scout out the enemies strength first. I'm sure they will have one or two of those Pta's working before you get there. And oh yes we were out of crab mines, Orthae needed yours. Oh look your paint is dry, take her out and kick the tires Oban, on second thought don't kick them, we can't afford to replace them if they fall off, 30% inflation here at wraith you know." Oban is left to stare at his new Command and wonder aloud to himself. "I wonder if there are any Stormcarriers left in the Gammulan fleet? Oh well, that is an awful pretty bullseye. Hey ensign help me scrub the rust off of this ship Ive got work to do?" [end rp] You wouldn't do that to me Tac would you?.. Tac? .. would you? Cheers [ 01-24-2002: Message edited by: Oban ]

It's Funny you should mention that article back in Feb of 2001. It was the same one that got me interested in the game, I started following the progress of BCM shortly after. I generally find the previews I like then I start following the development of the game, lurking on boards etc. I did that with Baldurs Gate and Starfleet Command as well. I actually usually prefer previews, they are generally positive and accentuate all the things the developer is trying to accomplish. They usually include mission statements from the developer as well so you can get some idea of what his take on things are. Reviews, while somewhat useful, are as you say just opinions. FYI For those of you with an Asus GF video card, Asus just relesed a 23.12 detonator driver for the Ausus GF cards as of Jan 15, 2002. They can be found here under the other drivers section: 3dfx Files Homepage Sorry for the confusion of the first post, my information was initially received second hand off of a forum. I made an error in assuming it was completely accurate. It won't happen again. Cheers [ 01-21-2002: Message edited by: Oban ] [ 01-21-2002: Message edited by: Oban ]

Lexx, LMAO That kills me that you guys actually get that show. A good friend of mine is in house counsel for the production company, Salter Street Films, that does Lexx. Up here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Its about a four hour drive from where I live. Personally he hates the show, I get a bit of a kick out of it. I've been trying ot get a cameo as a "star trek redshirt" type just for the hell of it. I told em to call me when they need someone for the cannibal girl to eat. I told him i'd do it for free just for the laugh. They used to use a lot of locals for the bit parts but are filming more oversesas now on location for various planets, my career in tv doesnt look to promising. I'll let you know if I ever get on. Cheers

I think maybe I did not explain myself clearly. The new game I started was from scratch and had no relation to the game that I had saved or had the problem with. I kept returning to that saved game and even tried different jump points with the same results. I still have that saved game. It may just be a freak occurance I have had no real gameplay issues to date other than. Thought you might be interested. So I thought I should report it. If this makes no differnce then I apologize. Cheers

I have been getting a ctd at the same point 7 times in a row. I am in the mars region and jumping to the "to jupiter" gate when in the middle of my hyperdrive the game just ctd's, every time. I have the game saved at the point just before the jump. All you have to do is hit A/P and wait. Is it something simple or should I send the saved game? Have since started another game and made the exact same jump with success? Cheers

Does anyone know where I can get a driver uninstaller for Nvidia drivers that will work with WinXP. The only one I can find makes no mention of xp compatibility. I want to dump the 23.11 for the 22.80 drivers due to some random ctd's i have had lately. Just figured it would be easier if i had an uninstaller clean out all the residue drivers first. Cheers

It really wasn't that bad of a review. The reviewer indicated you need patience and imagination, and that you enjoy the experience more if you role play your chraracter. That is all very true and accurate. The review to me is more or less an admission that the reviewer himself has none of the above attributes. Having said that he still gave the game a decent rating. I loved the part about the brain exploding. Cheers [ 01-08-2002: Message edited by: Oban ]

Seeing as how we are all atarting form scratch again due to the patch maybe you should assign us some temp. vessels so we can get the right ones up to speed with upgrades etc. for the operation. Cheers
-
I am up for it but am not sure how much good I will be right away based on what I have read about the operation. I've mostly stayed in space kicking the tires on the various ships before MP comes out. I have kind of neglected Marine/Base assault/fighter tactics. Cheers

Just as an update the 4142 sound drivers from Turtle Beach's site do not seem to fix the issues with comm chatter in Win XP. At least not on a Dell system. Maybe next time Cheers FYI neither do the 4142 drivers that you can download from the Dell support site which are supposed to be dell's tbsc specific. [ 01-18-2002: Message edited by: Oban ]

Sunflash vs. Every Other Ship In The Game
Sean Mudge replied to Nimbus's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
I must agree with you guys, I love the little bugger. I've been trying to get the hang of the super cruisers but I just keep coming back. Great Ship Cheers -
Try checking to make sure your sound card is set to the proper speaker configuration in the tb contol panel. I had the same thing happen. When I first d/l the new drivers TB was defaulted to the six speaker setup. I reset the speakers to two and the firing sound came back. I have also noticed that the voice notification that you are approaching a "jump gate", does not play as on my sound card. I get the writing on top of the screen and the appearance of the officer but no voice. I wonder if maybe I need a four speaker setup to run all sounds (comm chatter, jump gate voice) of BCM on my system. Anyone else finding this problem? Other than that and comm chatter all is fine. Cheers

Jaguar, I am truly sorry, my neice had a form of meningities in her blood ( Im not positive if it was viral but I know it wasnt spinal), she was only a year old when she got it. The strain was called meningicoccalcemia (spelling is probably wrong)a very rare case they told us. She was hospitalized for months and was on the brink on a couple of occasions. I believe her brain suffered from swelling as well. It was truly horrifying, my thoughts are with your friend and their family. She was flown in and treated at the IWK (Issac Walton Killam (sp?))Childrens Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I could get you the doctors name who treated her if you think it may help. I think I will go hug my daughter now.

I noticed Dell just released a new flash bios last night I will try and tinker with that friday, maybe that will work. I will keep you updated. Cheers

I was using BCM with the first patch on my wifes laptop which did not meet your specs so I wasn't too concerned about testing the second patch on an inferior system. The sound was fine with the first patch on her laptop, including the crew chatter. When I got my new system I installed BCM on my new machine and then d/l the 2nd patch. The game was smokin' but I noticed I was unable to get the crew chatter. So last night I again took everything off and started from scratch. I found a copy of the first patch on gamespot and tried BCM with it just to check, but still no chatter. So I removed the whole thing again , reinstalled BCM, Patch 2 and sound card drivers. Still no go. Tinkered with acceleration, ports, headphones, speaker setups, etc. I am getting awesome frame rates though. I don't know if its because my hard drive is uncluttered and new but when I was just cruising sround with basic traffic I was briefly getting 132FPS around Mars and consistently 117 fps. I noticed TB has another unofficial patch on their site for the SCruz. Not being a techie I am a little tentative to d/l it until dell releases their version. Unless you recommend it. I assume Dell will follow shortly with an approved one. I hope that will work, I really like the chatter aspect for atmosphere. I even tried cranking up the volume on all system parts, I got great engine hum and almost blew the eyebrows off my forehead when I fired the IOD, but no chatter. Cheers

No Luck again. Not sure what to do , went through all the steps again. Re installed with both patches. No dice. Funny how it (the sound) worked fine on my wife's laptop. The rest of the Game runs extremley well. Other than the background chatter missing I am very pleased. Maybe next driver/winxp update will fix it. Cheers

"Dinky"....you gotta be kidding me..."dinky"? I never did take anyone seriously who used the word "Dinky". I think "Dinky" may be just the right word to describe the review in general. hmmm... is "dinky" a noun or a verb... Cheers

No luck, now reinstalling whole game and both patches in order. To see if i can get it in first patch.

I have already had sound fx set on max and music turned off. Comm chatter is set to on. Have dug up a set of stereo headphones, am checking now to see if its the speakers. Cheers

That is just odd. I would love to know what they were singing when they were dancing around outside.
