Start the program called "setup.exe" in your game directory, it will set up your sound. Also, get the latest patches here! There you will also find a Troubleshooting FAQ, and the Version Control File. Read them as well as the manual. Oh, and welcome to the club, Commander! ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Guys, I am very, very surprised! I kind of skipped the Proposal for Prime Fleet thread (shame on me! ), having too much work at the end of the year, and now I find myself in command of THE Prime Fleet. Now, that is an honor! Let me thank you for your trust, this is really some kind of Xmas present. Now I hope you grant me a few days to accustom to this new position... Btw., Gallion, we have to work something out now, I think. See you out there, Commanders! ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. General Protection Save fault?
Thomas Siemens replied to Ord Tantel's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Ord, when you apply changes to your memory settings or config.sys, you should also delete the files setup.cfg and joystick.set and start a new game to test. Do not use "old" saved games with new memory settings, you will run into problems! Regards, Thomas (a.k.a. Gudihl) Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series -
Steve, please send me your actual config.sys, and autoexec.bat via email. Also, I need the complete output of the "mem" command started in a dos box. I am sure we can work something out, even if it takes some days. Regards, Thomas (a.k.a. Gudihl) Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series

Well, sometimes one hast to bend the rules given in the FAQ somewhat, if (and only if) one knows what one does... Thomas (a.k.a. Gudihl)

It's the buffers entry which takes the mem away. Try buffers=8, and, say, files=90. In a dos box within windows (which provides its own buffers), the dos buffers setting does not affect performance pretty much, i.e. you can keep it rather low. The trick is to play with the entries in the config.sys file, and to add the entry "LH" in front of those in the autoexec.bat, who load programs (like keyb). A minium config.sys is not what you want, you need the emm386.exe ram line. Example: my scsi controler is an adaptec 2940, which eats a lot of memory. I use the line devicehigh=c:windowsemm386.exe ram x=a000-ccff along some other lines, as proposed in the FAQ, within my config.sys, which excludes a certain area (which is occupied by the adaptec controller), but gives my a total of 601Kbytes lower memory, even with EMS memory activated. What can I possibly say to such a recommendation from you guys? I would be honored, truly honored! Let's just keep this open - if you guys want a more role playing aproach, I think no one can beat Cmdr. Blades, considering his contributions to this forum in the last weeks (months?). Others, like Chavik (are Insurgents also invited to this?), Lynx, or Gallion qualify also, IMHO. I cannot objectively speak for myself here - Rattler, your recommendation leaves my kind of speechless (positive suprise, I think. I used to oppose you, more than once )... Regards, Thomas (a.k.a. Gudihl)

Sorry, I am a bit late... (RP) Date 03/14/3008, 1520 GST Mondial/Omega Eridani GCV-Dar Star Personal Log Gamma Omega! Argh, this day promised to be fun until an hour ago. The boys were doing fine last night, and at 1630 hours they had the counterattack planned. Now look at this mess. Since that hour ago, our comms gone crazy, and all hell broke loose. Who was it that complained about the boredom lately? I hope not me, argh. Gamma Omega! Okay, everyone from Wraith in charge knows what that means. One, or more, star bases have been taken, and the Gammulans have begun the War. Tac informed me that they are heading towards Rinaal, and here we are, sitting at the other end of it all. Dammit... End Personal Log "Sir, we received a transmission from Cmdr. Bandus at Chanis-2, Xyon." Sarah informed me. I read the note: **BEGIN TRANSMISSION** To: Com*an**r Gu*ihl F*om: C**man*er Ba*dus Su**ect: Imm*di*te Assi**ance Re*uire* Command** Gudi*** I re*uest the s**port of *hips from **rauder* Wi*g to cov*r Del** Win**Ship* wh**e we a*tempt evacu**ion *f **lta***arbase. **END TRANSMISSION** "Yeah, right. Bandus is transmitting from over there, and all we receive is that. Well, thanks, Sarah!" I told her. Okay, let me see. "Sally, how many ships are patroulling in the Terran Quadrant at the moment?" "About ten, Joe! The White Group, and the Red Group." Sally told me. "Why?" "Cmdr. Bandus requested support at Chanis-2, Xyon. Okay, send them transmissions to fly to Xyon ASAP, and attach this transmission from Bandus. Secure channel, as usual, Sarah!" That was that. Now for the rest. **BEGIN TRANSMISSION** To: All Marauders Ships outside at Syrion Quadrant. From: Commander Gudihl Subject: Wing Orders Fellow Commanders, as you all know, we received the "Gamma Omega" warning about some 50 minutes ago. I hope your preparations are finished, and you have taken position. Five ships, the Blue Group, remain in the Syrion Quadrant, two at LV-130, two patroulling, and one at F12/Ylisia/Omega Eridani. Have your cloaking devices ready, and in standby mode at any time! We have no problems with our Iridium stock at the moment... The remaining Wing is to follow the GCV-Usagi, and the GCV-Dark Star on their way to Rinaal. I hereby also mobilize our three Fighter Squadrons! Squad One is to remain at LV-130, to assist the Blue Group, as needed. The remaining two Squads are to accompany us to Rinaal. **END TRANSMISSION** "Sarah, send this to our Commanders, encrypted Marauders Secure Code!" I told our Comms Officer. Now the base. **BEGIN TRANSMISSION** To: SB Fenrir, LV-130/Alpha Canis From: Commander Gudihl Subject: Prepare Evacuation To all base personnel: prepare for immediate evacuation! All transporters are to be readied. Transfer Iridium to shuttles, and boobie-trap the base... **END TRANSMISSION** "Sarah, got this? Good." "Joe, is that really necessary?" Sally asked me. "Well, dunno. I have got that bad feeling about F12. When they get Cerberus, we are next. Better be prepared!" I answered her. "Okay, bring her on da road. You've got the bridge! I'm in my cabin until Rinaal..." "Okay, Joe. Action stations, action stations! Yellow alert, we are on the move. Shields at 25%; IOD, and PTE at 50%, standby! Plot course to Rinaal, Linda! Estimated time?" Sally took over. "Estimated time to Rinaal two hours." Lt. Linda Miller, our Navigations Officer answered. I went to the Commander's cabin to get some half hour rest, and then to plan our next moves together with Tac... (/RP) Note: had to do some minor corrections concerning those Fighter Squadrons. (12 pilots each instead of four, as I thought!) Thus this correction two days after posting... Regards! ------------------ Cmdr. Rattler, this is just too easy! Heheh. Well, SS Gammula has used such a device for years - let's hope they did not invent some other device to see "through" this trick (to be able to dock at their own station, for ex.)... Thomas (a.k.a. Okay, I am joining now. Just sent a background to Dan and Gallion for approval. So the following is subject to changes... (RP) Stardate 03/12/3008, 1400 GST LV-130/Alpha Canis SB Fenrir, Marauders Wing HQ Personal Log Another boring day is nearly over. Well, the training of the new rookies is finished, and the maneuver tomorrow will be their final test. If all goes well, I have to recommend them for promotion to "Tac" and GALCOM HQ. Just let's hope they work together this time, and refrain from those "heroic" solo actions. I can make no reproach to Sally, she invested more time than they really deserved. Well, they are her "boys", we will see this night how they are doing. I have to remember to visit Earth in July. I promised Joyce to be there on little Walter's 10th birthday. Joyce has never forgiven me that I did not return to Earth with her, but instead opted to join the Wraith Fleet in early 2999. Damn, I have too much time lately. Too much time to hang in the past and on private problems. As all the others, I wish something would happen, anything to divert me from this deadly daily routine... Well Joe, admit it, you're getting old. 40 is coming in great steps. Dammit. Heheh, and talking to yourself is a sign of becoming senile, as Bill never tires to remind me. End Personal Log *knock* *knock* "Yeah, who is it?" "Joe, all daily checks are done. Stations are up and working, as usual. The old veterans have their ships prepared to kick some serious butt on the simulated attack tomorrow. We will see then, if our greenies are ready for it!" Lt. Cmdr. Sally Fields, my long time Tactical Officer, and 1st officer, produced a smile. "Nice work. Tell your 'boys,' they got the rest of the day free. Oh, we start this event at 0100 GST this night, remember not to let it show." I grinned and dismissed her. (/RP) I play it calm here, being far off from where the action will start. But we all now, information travel fast.... Cya out there! ------------------ Cmdr. Joe Gudihl, GCV-Dark Star, =Wraith Fleet= Commander, Marauders Wing "Remember, we are trained professionals... SpacePhish, in MP you can do whatever you want, only limited within the bounds, which are set by whoever starts a server (as in all the other MP games around). This is not about Battlecruiser Online, this is about (small) indipendent servers. Ron, thank you for your posting, it is great! It has been great reading the explanatory first part, and I would agree with you on the second part, at least in parts. MP open, RP restricted to BC history and/or player set bounds. (Your example was somwhat extreme, with Han Solo, heheh. Usually there is some type of GameMaster (GM) who leads (guides) the way a story goes and watches the rules... ) Some questions are still open, I fear: will non Terran fleets be allowed (as you suggested in the DCV sig layout and example), and will those "free" UCV signs (with squad addendum) and DCV signs be allowed outside the RP forum? Derek? Greetings. ------------------ Commander Joe Gudihl GCV-Dark Star =Wraith Fleet= Commander, Marauders Wing "Remember, we are trained professionals... Don't try this at home!" quote: You are mixing RP with Overall Website issues here. IMHO there is no problem with that. This site heavily develops towards BC3020AD (we may get multiplayer even sooner) and this discussion is about multiplayer squads (i.e. clans). RPing is a game of make belive, so I, personally, have no problems to "be" a gammulan raider even when I am limited to the GALCOM battlecruiser. I could even make up some story about how it comes that I can fly exactly this ship and not a, say, starcruiser. (I could have stolen it, like in the Insurgent FF.) If we strictly limit people to only using GALCOM signs (or the like), and only flying Galactan class battlecruisers (we don't, I remember some people, i.e. Tac, claiming to fly a Constellation class bc), we would limit the game and scare people off. I would like you to read the first posting in this thread again, there is a lot of good sense and reasoning in it IMHO, especially in the paragraphs two and three. Therefore I would like to follow DeSylva's suggestions. quote: We're trying to run before we've learned to crawl. Heheh, think about it as learning to swim: you get how to do it, or you drown. Greetings. ------------------ Joe Gudihl, GCV-Dark Star (Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series) Commander, Marauders Wing =Wraith Fleet= "Remember, we are trained professionals...
