Good to here. I do definetly believe you are the right track with the games concept. I purchased a copy of BC3K a year or so ago even though I couldn't get it working right. Considered it my way of helping to finance this game. Hope to see even more from you in the future.

Just strikes me as odd in that playing a Military career at one of my own side's bases if your system is at 0% rather than 1% they won't provide parts.

Re: the issue about fixing a 0% status item. To reiterate: I'm at Galcom HQ... They have parts to do either the repair or replace... NIETHER repair or replace lights up. [Galcom HQ won't use the replace parts as the replace option doesn't activate] Don't have the money in game in buy the replacement and try repairing in space. Can't get the parts from Galcom HQ without paying as the "replace" option does not activate to let me load on the replacement part. Currently playing a different saved game now. Still, I'm concerned about this bug. It could still occur again.

What would be involved in programming it is whether the script system can handle the following: 1) Activate on user input (hitting the alt-c) 2) clearing existing mission (a Y/N confirmation would be good) 3) ability to pull up statistics such as - player race and caste - list of star starports and bases - affiliations of those starports/bases as friendly or enemy - a randomn number generator - ability to run nested case statement - option: ability to pickup cargoes and/or guests The race and caste move you through the nested case statement to a mission type generator. The mission type being selected by a random number fed into a case statement. Another random case statement is then used to select one or more of the star ports. The mission type would have an additional money and/or xp goal attached to it. I don't know what the scripting system can handle now. Does anyone know which pieces would need to be added? The only thing that really can't be hard coded in is the current affiliation of the ports and bases (as these change in captures).

I started with 15,000,000 from mining drones and in 4-5 trips went up to 150,000,000. The more trips you make the faster your money will grow almost exponentially. Let me see if I got this straight.... Your making millions running surface defense missiles to a place called Polaris 2? Anybody else see the humor in this?

I thought I already posted this but can't find it on the board anywhere. Maybe it got moved but I don't know where it, or the answer is. More likely I hit a wrong button. Anyway, I can't get two of many things fixed at Galcom HQ. They gave me parts to fix everything else. However there are two items at zero percent, as in totally busted. Niether the repair or replace options are valid. Checks of supply show Galcom has plenty to fix it. Tried buying the parts to repair it myself in space. Had enough parts but no option to repair. Not a matter of having engineers either. Can't select the repair option to even assign them to it. The other repairs were started successfully. Can't get these zero percent items fixed. (Bluddy insurgent hill... I swear it jumped up in the way)

I was thinking about the random mission thing. It is great about the ongoing battles with random starships. I often make up stories behind some battles in my head. (note to SC, I do really like the product) The randomn mission is more something for the non-combat gamers. Like the Diplomat or Paramedic players. PKing is always a difficult concept. In a game like BC... well it is "battle"-"cruiser" so combat is likely. UO pking was out of hand and they lost my business (and my recommendation) over it. Everquest made it a voluntary switch. I personally prefer multiplayer co-operative style gaming. A lot of what I do in the world is to get people working together on a positive work. My competition is the forces of resistance (not always people) that are barriers to true success.
-
I'll give it a go. Terran Military Command... I have the insurgency base sighted. Bringing in cruiser for a straffing run of their base.
-
Some of you assume I intend to play online. :-) I tried out online gaming with the first versions of UO and Everquest.. actually... back to the days of text based MUD and MUSH. The past few years I have concluded that a: a) player kiling wastes my times I have quality gamers around I could play face to face with c) whenever a live friend and I talk about playing online together it rarely happens d) you generally can't back up to a recent save in the game is something wonky happens e) something wonky will eventually happen to your connection, the server or the small irish gnome on the bicycle providing power My intention is to actually play BCM solo. Hence my interest in single player features.

[not sure if this is right place for this] I was thinking it would be kewl if you had the game had a random mission generator for the roam mode. IT could work something like this: Hit Ctrl+Alt+C (Request new campaign mission) Cancels any existing mission (option, would help clean up old data or impossible random missions) Checks your affiliation and career type (ie ter/mil commander) selects a mission type from a list which might look like: 1 Goto position 2 Destroy object at location 3 Escort person to location 4 Take item to location 5 Gain X amount of xp in certain time 6 Destroy X amount of enemy 7 Defend object at location 8 Goto location and dock with object then do one of the above and then generates suitable objects or locations. System would award bonus XP and or money based on accomplishing the task, possibly with a timelimit.

Mandatory Military enlistment

Just a couple of tid bits. Even though I'm a Canadian I am involved with joint business venture with USA firms and they have held conferences about the foundations of the states where I attended. (speakers where USA citizens/historians/business owners). Based on the discussion here you may find some of the points they made interesting: 1) Founding father's didn't have jobs. Back then almost everyone had there own business. You had a farm, you where the tanner, you where the store owner or your parents where. The job mentatlity of today is significantly different from when the immigrants, who started and ran businesses, first made the USA. 2) The states is actually not a pure 'democracy'. In a true democracy the majority can vote to away the property of any minority. Rather, the United Sates of America are founded as a 'democratic repulic'. Recall 'and the repulic for which it stands'. What that means is that the democracy of your voting ability is below the power of the rights and freedeoms all citizens have. Thus the majority could not just vote to take your possessions and the majority can not just vote to have all of a minority thrown into a cell. The individual has rights and freedomes until such time as they individually violate those of others as per the laws of the repulic. 3) In terms of certain people not being able to vote the USA has at least two wars fought over that issue. The first being the War of Independece, the other being the Civil War over the rights of slaves. While I currently feel people should make efforts to contribute to society I have mixed views on a mandatory program. One with benefits yes. Should those benefits directly prohibit rights and freedoms... I feel no. Interesting point has been raised on the Bread&Circuses. I haven't thought of that view before. But yes... those on welfare vote toward a continuation of welfare. Those with the ambition to create and produce avoid such. It's the difference between the welfare 'what the world owes me' versus the business 'what I achieve in the world' thinking. -
I can't seem to find where it explains how to actually launch a probe. Can someone point me to the right spot or give me the directions, thank you.

I noticed the download for RC9 is only available on Gamespy... which looks like a site that pays for the service by ads. With no disclaimer about using your email for sale to spam ads I am reluctant to use their service. Is there someplace 'safe' to download from? Can anyone confirm that Gamespy doesn't sell or spam email addresses themselves? BTW, to the Supreme Commander about a 'pasy' service... we did pay for the game already. We are just looking the files to make it work. And yes it is my business if purchasing your product 'might' lead (directly or indirectly) to misuse of my email.

I remember seeing somewhere about how to set your planetfall position. How can you set it so you come from space to a specific point on a planet (and thus save huge chunks of time travelling uninhabited areas)?

I have an enemy fighter beat up and emitting an SOS. One of my own fighters was destroyed in the same battle. Is there anyway to capture the SOS fighter and bring it onboard for my own use? Everything I try leads to the enemy fighter exploding. Seems to explode whenever I turn off the tractor beam of what ever drags it to my carrier. Note: that the SOS fighter is travelling at a very high speed so I can't exit into a spacesuit unless it is first captured in a tractor beam and towed to a stop.

Mandatory Military enlistment

Some interesting notes: Personally military experience: Never worked out Spoke with recruitment officer when in late high school about an OTC scholarship. Said my branch of Engineering wouldn't qualify. Thought about being a pilot. Got glasses in mid-University. Thought about signing up during the invasion of Kuwait. Dad made a valid point... already being in Engineering I could do more for a protacted war effort designing planes or equipment. If it was a short war I would never get through training in time. Found out about co-pilot vision requirements being less than those for pilots. Failed physical as I had fallen off a roof and need once a month chiropractic care. That counts as specalized medical service and you must be deployable for one year into remote areas. Reserves must meet same physical level since they could be called on for the same deployment. I could sign up into the reserves as a dentist on a base. uh... no thanks. Anyway: Once worked with a fellow at the Canadian Space Agency. He was doing his military service for France by being here in Canada at the CSA. Military performance of volunteers is always way above draft troops. When it used to be march in column, raise musket and pull.. it wasn't so much an issue. But with more mobile warfare now you need people with initiative. Someone who has to be dragged in community service, like an army, will just have to be dragged around the battlefield too. In terms of taxes don't think that will make much difference. Your teaching people how to save not produce with that. Promoting skills learned by the military at government costs... that will produce a much better country. Canada's situation: Volunteer army overtrained for their positions. Expectation that if we were to go to a full scale war existing staff would get promoted and handed basic training draftees. Gives us a capability to boost army size without having to keep the huge army feed when not needed. Canadian Military Historical Trivia: At the end of WWII Canada had something like the third largest navy. Behind UK and USA I believe. It was all those ships used to win the War of the Atlantic. Including the Canadain aircraft carrier Nabob. Personal Opinion: Anyway, I do think people need to contribute to the effectiveness of their community. Mandatory military service won't get you the sort of people to really be smart soldiers these days. Offering finanicial support, training, scholarships I feel will do more than just tax breaks. -

Not sure where to post this one so I'm putting it in the general forum. I was just goofing around and figure it looks like I can edit the cruiser data files. Probably mess up multiplayer uses if I do... but hey I normally never play online these days. Has anyone else tried it?

Got my first campaign started in Roam mode. Sitting on the bridge of battlecruiser. Reading through the manual trying to figure out to use hyperdrive. "Captain! A prisoner has escaped!" cried out my tactical officer "What the?" I reply... we launched from Earth with prisoners onboard? "Incoming enenmy vessel" screams another voice. "What the?" I reply... we haven't even left oribt. "Marines dispatched," calls out security. Lock onto the enemy vessel and prepare for my first every hyperjump. Give the command. "Combat on deck one," calls out security. "Wonderful"... I say, "Go gettem marines." With a single gesture all weapons are activiated, placing the defense turrests on automatic. "A prisoner has escaped." a voice cries out. "What the?" I say, "We had TWO stowaways?" "A prisoner has stolen a shuttle" "What the heck!" *Boom* sound of automated turrets destroying shuttle... either that or I rammed the thing. "Hyperdrive engaged" We ha... Time to fight the enemy cruiser. Come out of the FIRST EVER hyper jump. "A prisoner has stolen a shuttle" *Boom* sound of second shuttle being destroyed. And then into battle with the enemy cruiser. Quickly dispatch the enemy A post battle check reveals... two shuttles destroyed... and two ground vehicles!!! HEck those prisoners took off with them in the shuttles!!! That's huge cash gone!!! That's it! I'm going back to Galcom HQ! The starbase security officers are gonna answer for this! Stowaways indeed! Trying to make a run to an incoming warship! Ah man my whole career is starting off in the red. I'm gonna demand Galcom gives me a fresh start to my campaign!!! [Hey... gotta luv how the roaming events can come together. I luv this game. And the reviewer complained about not having fixed missions. What a dodo. This game rocks. ]

Hi folks... Made my own choice. Selection was for a Inno Geforce2 64MB card... at 129 CDN... roughly 85 USD. Can't beat that for the price. Used the extra money to get another 128MB PC RAM chip too. (now at 256MB) Battlecruiser running quite fine. AS to the gentlemen considering whether to get the better video card vs PC ram... You can also add more PC ram later... you can't transform the video card into the better model. Get the better video card now and in a month or two get the more RAM. Check with the maker of your system to make sure it will be an easy matter of just clicking in more memory modules to increase the ram. Technical reference: ram is composed of the several slots on your system... say A, B, C, D. Memory modules are then put in in certain combinations... choices controlled by motherboard limitations. If you have 64MB modules in A and B you get 128 MB 64MB in all four equals 256 MB ram but 128 MB in slot A = 128 total 128 MB in A + B = 256 MB In the later example C+D are free... meaning you might be able to drop in another 128 MB chips in C+D to go up to 512 MB. This would be at your discretion.

Kewl. Thank you everyone for the input. With Xmas (and my Birthday on the 26th) I'm in "negotiations" to get the video card.

My Voodoo3 1000 15 MB just cant handle space mode in BCM. Even with my program launch line being bcm -n -ng -nm -nd1 -nd2 *sigh* So I am looking for a new video card. What to people recommend? I'm looking for a price range from $150 to $250 CDN. Primary goals are two fold: 1) a company that is still in business and supporting their product with new drivers (dam it like a beaver) 2) capable of running BCM Any help would be appreciated
