I noticed today when I was poking around that the page for UC: Legacy Edition has been removed or moved. Is that game still on the slate and I missed it somewhere? Thanks, Ken

I would be interested in both a manual and a large galaxy map poster. Ken

I will do that. I did a search and found ReplicaNet's freebie and downloaded it along with GameCom. Thanks, SC. Ken

What are the performance/capability differences between GameCom and ReplicaNet that prompted the switch for multiplayer? As a dabbling game programmer who would like to implement MP sometime soon I am curious but also will understand if you are too busy to answer this completely, SC. Thanks, Ken

A potentially silly question, so gimme a siddown if I need it but... Could Dreamcathcer claim later (if sued for damages) that the lack of a demo (which was planned for a $39.99 release) hurt the sales so it was not "their fault" the sales were lower than they projected? Ken

I liked Fellowship better but still liked Two Towers. Also, I tried to read the books in high school but quit in the middle of Two Towers as I found the writing style boring. This is a geek sin of the first magnitude to many. So you are not quite alone.

SC, I have been playing the heck out of BCM lately and having quite the good time. This makes me wonder, will there be pre-orders for BCG (and BCM:G, for that matter) and if so, any ideas from which retailers and if there will be a special promo deal like there was when we pre-ordered BCM (the cool map poster)? I think if you could tell us you already would have but I just thought I would ask as I am curious and looking forward to both games, especially BCG. Thanks, Ken

Gammulan military ship of choice
kiloton replied to Raven's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Am I reading the multiplayer features right or did the Stormcarrier get a little less scary since support craft deployment will not be a part of multiplayer for BCM or BCM Gold (and may not be a part of BCG MP either)? Anybody rethinking their ship choices based on those listed features or am I not reading them right? Ken -
Hmm, where can I get the demo for Freelancer? Thanks, Ken [ 09-05-2002, 07:33 AM: Message edited by: kiloton ]

Nova and James, I live in Maryland Heights just down the road from you guys! How cool. I am going to see the movie tomorrow at West Olive at Olive and 270. A buddy of mine saw it yesterday and said it was awesome. Ken

I am hoping the posting date of that story (04/01/02) is a bit telling of how serious it is. If not, then that is insane, but I tend to think it was a joke.

I liked SFC2 better than SFC1 once they patched it. They added ADDs and got rid of giving everyone an extra drone rack and phaser to make up for not having ADDs like they did in SFC1. The campaign is better and worse than SFC1, in different ways. Plus it added the two new races (Kzinti aka Mirak and ISC). As released, they game was horrible but the new patch is pretty good. They have two outside guys working on it now and they are getting way more done than was previously. I also bought SFC: Orion Pirates but have not played it yet. Too many games... I have the ST: BC demo but have not played it yet. Likely will this weekend. Anything I should know going in about controls or how to play or what to expect?

I love SFB, as well. I would just go nuts of someone could mix the tactical depth of SFB with the persistent universe of BCM (the style of the ongoing campaign) instead of the monotonous mission based repetition that kills SFC's campaign. Man, that would be cool. BCM by far has the best campaign system but it so much easier for lazy developers to fall into the scripted missions and linear storyline trap. Don't get me wrong, sometimes, that is fine when done well (Freespace, Freespace 2, etc.). But if it gets repetitious and holds no replay value then it becomes shelfware pretty quickly. Luckily the tactical aspects and wide variety of ships make SFC pretty good, despite the single player campaign shortcomings. Ken

Missiles came from the board game Star Fleet Battles, which was based on Star Trek before the movies came out (mid 70s) but significantly expanded on it. If you liked the board game you probably liked SFC. If you were looking for a canon Trek game you probably were disappointed. Star fleet Battles is my favorite board game so you can guess what I think... Ken [ 02-27-2002, 07:51: Message edited by: kiloton ]

You could see through certain graphics...
kiloton replied to cschoch's topic in Game Demo Discussions
I saw the same exact thing. I assumed it was something with my video drivers. I tried upgrading to the latest drivers and the effect did not go away. Did not try anything else and am waiting for the full version to arrive to see if it is still there. I have an nVidia graphics card as well. Is this an nVidia issue? I did not see anything in the FAQ pertaining to this. It is only a minor annoyance at the worst and easy to overlook. Would be nice if I could figure out how to fix it, though. Ken Rodeghero -
Anyone Running nVidia Version 12.41 Drivers?
kiloton replied to kiloton's topic in Game Demo Discussions
Excellent. I will go ahead and install the new driver then. Thanks! Ken Rodeghero -
I have an nVidia TNT2 card and was looking at getting the latest drivers. I do not remember the version I have now (I am at work, sadly) but it is 11.xx and the Ep 1 demo works just fine with these. The latest drivers are version 12.41 but I noticed in the FAQ that "If you have a TNT2, it has been reported that only the Det 3 1080 or 1101 drivers will work." Has anyone out there tried the 12.41 drivers? I want to make sure I do not upgrade if I am going to lose the ability to play BCM. Thanks, Ken Rodeghero

I deleted all the files from my temp folder and the demo would still not install from the CGW CD. I checked my hard drive again, ran scan disk, and checked my registry and found no problems or left over references to BCM so it looks like the uninstall was fine from before. Desperate to try anything, I copied the setup file for the BCM demo to my hardrive to run it from there instead of the CD just to see what happened. It worked. Not sure what that means. I played for about an hour last night and liked it. I will know I like it a lot if my wife starts complaining that I am on the d*mn computer too much. Ken Rodeghero

Thanks SC, I figured it had nothing to do with BCM and was a problem I had that was causing Installshield to fail a check. Just was not sure what exactly. I will give your suggestion a try tonight and post my results here so others can see if it worked or if I goofed something else up. Ken Rodeghero

Hello everyone, first time poster, so go easy on me... I posted this here even though it is pertaining to the Ep 1 demo as I had the same problem mentioned at the start of this topic. Read on and see what I mean. I installed and played the BCM Ep 1 Demo for a while and then removed it via the add/remove programs on the control panel. Several weeks later, i.e., last night, I got the bug to play it again and went to install it again (both installs were from the demo included in CGW's July CD, not a download) and I got the error the second poster to this topic mentioned. That is an Installshield error box with a blank button and the caption "Error writing to temporary location." I looked for any file with "BCM" in it (like the BCM.ini file as mentioned in the FAQ) anywhere on my hard drive and did not find any. I looked again at the registry and the BCM demo was not listed so I believe I uninstalled it correctly. I have over 4 Gig of hard drive space available so I don't believe space to be an issue. Has anyone else seen this or have any idea what I should try to get this fixed? Besides the obvious answer that I should have never uninstalled it in the first place. I messed with it for about 45 minutes last night with no luck. Thanks in advance for your help.
