  1. quote:And how exactly is it that you know that the cancelled game was good and promising?Well from screen shots and the preview movies and on the rare occasion an E3 tech demo leak as with DOOM 3. I played that demo and let me tell you that game is gunna rock. And we all know of Half Life 2 just from the E3 previews and all I can say is DAMN. Also from beta samples that are released to the many game review web sites such as gamespot most of the time however the guys from gamespot are invited to the development house where a particular game is being developed and get a hands on test of the game then talk about their perception of the game and it's game play. All that is taken into consideration by me as well as I'm sure the rest of us here as to either the game is good or is gunna suck squirrel nuts. quote:Fact is, IG3 had a lot of setbacks and I already predicted - back when the entire dev team quit - that it would be canned. It seems I was right and that the re-assignment to another team was just a temporary stop gap.Yeah that is kinda rough when that happens because the new development team needs to review all the previous coding before they can even attempt to start adding more code to the program. quote:So, would u have rather they continued funding a half-baked game? How about this, do you have ANY idea how much money it has cost CDV to keep the project going? And do you expect them - amidst losses - to keep throwing money in a well? Not ever publisher is Microsoft (who kept throwing money in the Freelancer well and after 5+ years of development, hasn't even sold 70K units - a tremendous loss by all accounts) you know.A very good point. Maybe something needs re-thinking in game devoplemnt. Okay your a game developer your game is 75% complete and the game is not being developed as planned or the worst case scenario you lose your development team whaddya do? Well you can run and hide in a closet and cry your eyes out or you can announce a major setback and try to gather together a new development team dumping more loads of cash into this game better yet why not tap into the enormous resource of talent that's available worldwide via the internet. I know for a fact there is alot of really good programing talent that's out there that have gone unrecognized all because they don't have the right diploma like one from MIT (for example) or the right resume plug-ins like I've worked for LucasArts, Raven, Interplay, GOD (gathering of developers etc.... Well you get the idea. All you need to get most of this talent on board is the promise of grandeur and a piece of the action. There are pros and cons to this however like the dropping out from development for one reason or another so then you just get the next guy hand him the code and let him take a crack at it. Take for example the development of STARFLIGHT III a bunch of fans of the game got tegether contacted the copyright holder of the game from Binary Systems got the green light and take a look at what they've done in their spare time and all from internet talent (they've also got a few of the original development team on board as advisors) STARFLIGHT3 and you know what THE GAME IS GOING TO RELEASED FOR FREE!!! Now if these guys can do this what's up with the corporate game development houses? quote:And being the space sim genre doesn't help either. It is a niche dead genre and no publisher wants to invest in it - unless they can get it for cheap or as a pick-up (95%+ completed) deal. You know they kept trying to sell eveyone about the adventure game genre being dead but here we are years later buying new adventure games and good ones at that thanks to companies like Dreamcatcher. Yeah there was a point and time when the adventure games did dry up but they've come back stronger than ever. Thanks to games like Gabriel knight, Longest Journey, Siberia, Siberia 2, Blade Runner, and let's not forget Monkey Island. I'm still waiting for a Grim Fandango 2 though. Anyway I say just give it time and the same will happen to the Space Sim.
  2. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: im not sure, but Ive seen the sc say before he wouldnt really want the hassle of dealing with licensed franchise stuff. star wars star trek... even though one time i saw him mention that he went to activision about star trek when he saw they got the license. i think that was an audio interview. Oh I didn't really mean him persay. It's not a request or anything. I only used him as an example because of his space sim expertise. Anyone with his expertise would be welcome. It's just a crime to think that game is inches away from releasing and it's just sitting somewhere in limbo.
  3. Ah yes, I speak of the once anticipated game of Babylon 5. The game is sitting out there somewhere on someones shelf gathering dust and beckoning to be released. It was near completion then it was cancelled. I know they were having trouble with getting the stargates to be just like in the TV show then I heard nothing after that. Here's a link to an old IGN preview. Babylon 5Maybe together we can harrash somone enough at Sierra or the creators of B5 to rekindle this game. It's a shame all that work on it has lain dormant. Give it to someone who can make it work and finish it. Maybe SC would like a crack at it since most of the work on the game is nearly done. I'm sure a person of his game creation caliber can handle it. Blade Runner: quote:I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die.
  4. quote: LucasArts has decided to stop production on Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels. ?We do not want to disappoint the many fans of Full Throttle,? says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts, ?and hope everyone can understand how committed we are to delivering the best quality gaming experience that we possibly can.? That first comment makes no sense at all just by cancelling it is a disappointment. If they wanted not to disappoint, don't cancel the game. Or if they were sincere about releasing the best quality game what's up with Star Wars:Galaxies! Now that's a game that should have been shelved (and I don't mean the store shelves either). Actually, I think everyone in that company of late is sniffing too many light sabers. [ 08-09-2003, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  5. Yup only in New York where even the animals learn to try and steal other peoples possesions.

Yeah I noticed that too about the emot descriptions =Address:java script:void(0) actually all of the emots give that same description.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Vixef: Is it legal to harass someone like this????? No, but then again since when did people care about whats legal and whatsnot? Just getting an attorney to issue a cease 'n desist to an ISP, let alone a user, costs money. And then they'd just pop up elsewhere anyway (one idiot, Bill Huffman, has already proven this over the years with no less than four ISPs booting his sites). Without a court order (which means a hulluva lot more time and money), they won't stop. And the anonymity of the Net makes it all that much easier. heh, if Bill Gates, George Bush and everyone else (who DO have the resources and money to put an end to all the websites which libel/harrass them) can just ignore it, who am I to worry about it? I know who I am. My friends, family and colleagues know who I am. And thats all that matters. I don't have low self esteem where I have to worry myself about what every twat (who needs someone to bash in order to feel good about themself) online has to say about me, true, false or otherwise. Besides, thats nuthin' - if you really want to ruin your day, pull up google and do a web or newgroups search on "Derek Smart". See you next month (thats how long it will take you to finish reading all of it). Here is a thread on one of my local hangouts which has a wealth of resources I posted about libel and defamation on the Net. That's the attitude SC. I wish more people had it. But in my experience most people take too much stock in what someone else thinks of them. I myself just ingnore them to the point they just get fustrated and go away cause they didn't get a reaction outa me. You know I never did try a Derek Smart search but then again I don't bother looking into what anyone else thinks of someone else. The only opinions I look for are for game reviews.
  8. My package from Verizon DSL is 768/128 don't remember the web page size or the email allotment. But when it first came to my area April 2002 it was a special 1 month free then 3months for $39.99 then $49.99 thereafter but just this past May they reduced the price on me to $30bucks WOW. Something in this crack head city (NY) went down in price for a change!!

  10. Very interesting. About time those primates started pulling their own weight on this planet . Hmm, I wonder if Bill Gates has used them maybe the windows ME edition really stands for (M)onkey (E)dition and that's why is sucked. quote: Research indicates that great apes are very productive in the areas of software maintenance and report writing, while most monkeys will struggle. Monkeys however are great at software testing. What can be derived from this is that programers could be descendants of Great Apes while Beta Testers could be descendants of Monkeys. . oooooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeee <--- Gradualy going Bananas.

  13. Sorry for the dual post again but I could not keep quite about this one either. Government Control Gone Wild How dare they try to regulate what we can and cannot do to our own bodies.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Jonny H: Dunno really, but I've just made a habbit of it (damn) Its weird because I have this urge (while viewing forums) to press F5 every 3 seconds Now if you had said F5=Autodestruct Bill Gates you would have every one pressing that key all the time too.....
  15. Hmmm, I did come across my first issue with Opera for some reason when I went to play around with my personal web page (that my DSL service gives)I can't access it. IE can still access it with no problem. Guess I have to look at the Opera settings.
  16. You know something a thought just crossed my mind. How do we know the homeowner didn't do this to collect the insurance money (if any). Car owners do this all the time and now it's the home owner .
  17. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: I'm not sure I can answer that since to be able to do so would necessitate defining what exactly freedom of speech is and how far it can go. eg, I may have the freedom to go mouth off to a gang but I might not choose to exercise it. Same goes here we have the freedom to express ourselves but with that freedom comes responsibility. If we are irresponsible with our freedom it ends up being taken away. Yeah but the issue on this is that the guy was busted selling Adult Material to an Adult (who was an undercover cop) I could see if it was a minor he sold it to but it wasn't. He did not break any laws or show irresponsiblity with the feedom of whatever products he chose to carry in his establishment.

And why do you think the windows are so large on morrowind xbox? because you wouldn'T be able to read otherwise. Yes 1024x768 is crystal clear. If i get close enough i can see every pixel. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. when I hooked up my Voodoo3000 card to the TV I had the same issue with the text. But luckily, I knew what Icons were what on the desktop. I haven't tried my Radeon9000 yet on the TV.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Fiver: My home forums, where I post under Beowulf are discussing this topic to death (as we do most topics). Thought you guys might want a LINK. wow, I'm glad there are discussions on this issue web wide. I found that most important issues like this fall by the wayside and things we hold precious as american get chip away little by little with no one paying attention until it's too late. WAKE UP PEOPLE this is just the tip of the dictatorship iceburg. Remember the Titanic now just pretend that it's America and that's where we are headed.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Jonny H: hehe, I've just read a topic on another forum where someone compleatly REFUSED that PC was better than X-box (This means as in everything, not just games) Yeah there are some around here to that thinks that too. Actually, I have no real beef with any console I've played them all from the original PONG, commodore64, coleco vision, Vectrex, atari, intellivision, Nintendo, Snes, N64, playstation, Dreamcast. I really liked the Dreamcast a shame it died. My real beef is with the game companies. They made their fortunes off of us Pc gamers and all of a sudden we are treated like second class citizens when it comes to consoles and game releases KOTOR comes to mind as the latest infraction by making PC gamers wait two months for the game while the console version is out already. I know I've stated this issue often but it still burns my britches. Look what happened to Duke Nukem. They killed him by dropping the PC development and went console then we are thrown a pitifull bone years later to try to recapture his PC glory with Duke Nukem:Manhatten project what a piece of crap that was. They had a rock solid franchise with Duke on the PC and they just pissed it away all for a transitory game console. Go figure.
  21. First Amendment Issue or Adults gone wild?
  22. quote:Originally posted by Commander Elio Jason: i honestly don't care for what console i play my games on. they all are just platforms to play the game made for that platform. games are games. it doesn't matter what we play them on. quote:SC posted: Damn gamers. Nothing can ever be simple. how true There's one question I would like answered about the consoles. Who in hell hired that Drunken Camera Master!? You know how many console games this guy has ruined because the camera gets all over the place or just not in the right place and it always seems to happen at a critical moment. And with the console game ports to the PC the problem is just multiplying. I've played the new Indana jones game and that camera can either mean life or death. If you ever watch TechTv's X-play, they complain about that Drunken Camera Master too. . It's just one more console issue we PC gamers can live without.
  23. This could only happen in california!
  24. Finally, Console vs. Pc activists have their own thread. This way we can keep the other topics intact to their theme. If you feel the need to digress about this issue in the other topics, just post it here and add the link to your other message. Okay here we go, I'm gunna start off by making a big argument for Pc's that so far no one has mentioned about and that is EMULATION. I can play arcade games all the way down to the Playstation on my PC. Tell me what console system can do that. Let me tell you that games like Tekken3, Star Wars terras kasi for the Playstation and Conkers Bad Fur day for the N64 never looked , sounded or played better even on their target system. Now in the works are emulators for Ps2 and Xbox. Go here EMULATORS What console can do this? NONE. Sure some of you may argue the point of the many crashes and blue screens of death but that is a windows OS and/or Windows drivers issue not the actuall PC. But since Windows CE (console edition) and ME (mobile edition) is creeping into everything and may one day be in all consoles I don't hold up any hope from consoles being free from this issue either.
  25. Well I snicker at all you console owners cause we PC gamers have one major advantage PATCHABILITY and MODABILITY in our games. So KOTOR will last quite a long time for us PC GAMERS with addons and patches while you console gamers are stuck with the version and missions you bought!
