  1. Dangerous Waters finally has a publisher, Battlefront.com
  2. Check out the clip of the idiot "demonstrating" the Katana
  3. Favs: K.O.T.O.R Total War series Jane's Longbow 2 ( I really miss being able to play this one) Total Annihilation Privateer BC series (At this point I have difficulty deciding between BCM and UC) Freespace series Homeworld series Freelancer Alpha Centauri Call of Duty Tron 2.0 Startopia Emperor: Battle for Dune Dune 2 Hated Games: Star Trek ConQuest Online (yes I actually bought that stupid pos) Tachyon The Fringe (annoyed the piss out of me) Command & Conquer (another that annoyed the piss out of me) Force Commander (sucked) Star Trek: Brave new Worlds (What the hell were they thinking) Rayman 2 and Rayman Arena (damn they suck)
  4. Half-Life 2 (Gamestop just updated their release date from 11/01/04 to 11/16/04) KOTOR 2 All else is merely "wait for the review/price-drop" fodder.
  5. This would be in the category of "So old it's probably freeware by now." Wing Commander: Combat Information Center (CIC) Is dedicated to keeping Wing Commander alive. They have information about how to get the old beasts to run in Windows, as well as a lot of general WC info. If you are so inclined, the entire thirteen episode cartoon series (USA Network 1996, I never saw any myself) is available for download.
  6. Here is my "short" list 1. Dune, David Lynch version from 1984. Despite its many faults, I still prefer this one over that horrible miniseries. (and Toto's soundtrack kicked ass) 2. LOTR, hey I even paint the damn miniatures! 3. Kill Bill 4. The Last Samurai, I take Kendo (japanese fencing) so of course I like this movie. 5. Highlander (just the first one, the rest were utter crap) 6. The Lion In Winter, Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, a real classic. 7. Conan The Barbarian 8. Excalibur. Of note, the guy that plays Arthur is the same guy that played Prince John in The Lion in Winter. 9. Being John Malkovich, a little off kilter to say the least 10. The Last Starfighter 11. Gladiator Shogun would be somewhere on my list if it was not so damn long. Holy Grail is on the list somewhere, I just couldn't figure out where to put it.
  7. And don't forget Spybot Search and Destroy, available here I use both Ad Aware and Spybot just to make sure I catch everything.
  8. I like to set my hastati and principes on fire at will and let the pilums (or is it pili) do the talking. Some Gaulish units are down to less than half strength by the time they reach my lines, after getting obliterated by arrows, javelins, and pili. They sometimes turn and run before even reaching my lines. I do tend to lose a few men from friendly fire though.
  9. I always thought that trailer looked a bit fishy from the start.
  10. As I understand it, after you finish the campaign with one of the Roman factions, all of the other factions will be unlocked (according to PC Gamer anyway).
  11. I wonder what the expansion is going to be. The previous games in the series both had expansions, so I would assume that this one will have one too. Ancient Greece/Trojan War is highest on my list of possibilities, focused on Greece in the same way that the Vikings expansion was focused on England. And this leads to the question of what the next Total War game will be. I am hoping for a Napoleonic/Colonial era game that would pick up where Medieval left off and go up to 1900. Make the map global, and add full naval battles in addition to the ground battles. Of course, this is all just musings and speculation until my copy of Rome comes in, Gamestop has been very slow to ship it, the bonus DVD of special features and other goodies, that only comes with the preorder, is on backorder . They just shipped the game itself today.
  12. With Resnig duct taped to one of the bombs no doubt.
  13. ARRRRGH!!! today is the day!! A Pirate Personal ad: age: 30 weight: 230 height: 5'7" eyes: one blue hair: long brown Comments: Arrgh, I'm a lookin' fer a stout solid, little pleasure craft to lay alongside. One that can take rough seas and doesn't mind rough hands on the wheel. She can't have no rotten planks, and I don't want one with no barnacles neither.
  14. Ships on the twentieth. Anybody have any thoughts on this one? This RTS sounds promising, from Relic (Homeworld series). I periodically paint some LOTR miniatures, so I have seen plenty of Warhammer stuff. So, depending on how you want to spend your money, you could either buy this game, or a tank and a squad of Space Marines.
  15. My joystick (CH Flightstick Pro USB) comes with a utility that you can use to map the joystick to anything, mouse axis, keyboard commands. If you have more than one CH brand USB controller, like a separate throttle or whatnot, you can bind them together so that Windows treats them as one controller. I have tried mapping my stick to mouse axis, but it is really awkward trying to play like that (It is entertaining to navigate Windows with a stick though). That program is CH brand specific too. You can't mix and match controllers from other companies. I do not know of any Freelancer mods that can enable the joystick.
  16. I preordered mine at least a month or two ago. The release date on Gamestop was then, and still is, the 22nd of September. Nice to know it's gold though
  17. I know that "Freelancer" is a swear word here, but I was wondering whether any of you have tried out the numerous mods available for Freelancer at Lancer's Reactor. There are quite a few, ranging from single ships to total conversions, here are a few that I have tried so far. Privateer: The Reckoning is a total conversion that completely turns Sirius into the Gemini Sector, with all of the original music, sounds, ships(including a few others from the WC series), and the entire map from the original Privateer game. The upgrade system is completely changed as well. Some of the inflight communications are a bit repetitive (as they were in Privateer). The single player campaign is turned off, as it would not work very well with a completely different map. TIE Universe, as you might expect, converts everything into TIE fighters. All military, police, and corporate ships are converted into variants of TIE fighters, even going to the extent of the cargo ships. All of the pirate/insurgent craft are Rebel Alliance ships. By far the largest and most popular of the mods is known as Rebalance , currently version 3.40 with 3.50 in beta. The number of ships in this mod is stupendous to the point of sheer lunacy. There are ships from Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Freespace, Wing Commander, Homeworld, and many many more. Nearly every base has a ship dealer and nearly all have completly different ships from each other. There are new systems, new factions (including Earth Force Alliance, and the Minbari Empire, among others) new upgrade types (armor, sensors, reactors, etc), new commodities (including pilots recovered from ships you destroy). The NPCs are more difficult to kill, they actually use the nanobots and shield batteries now, and capital ships have more hit points, longer weapon ranges, more factions (including pirate/insurgents)use them, and they regularly patrol in fleets. The gameplay experience is greatly improved over regular Freelancer.
  18. For starters, completely Reinstall the game and install the patches from the game directory. Also, make sure you have DirectX 9.0c, the current version of UC won't run without it.
  19. You also might need to use a program called ID3 TagIT to remove the version 2 tags from the mp3s. It requires the .NET framework so make sure you have Windows updated. I use Musicmatch jukebox to rip my mp3s.
  20. Avast me hearties! September 19th is officially Talk Like a Pirate Day!
  21. Evidently a sequel to Earth 2150, a game which I have heard of but never played.
  22. quote: [scrivener] How could you possibly pull such a thing off without inciting massive global Star Trek fanboi riots? Because, if Berman and Braga continue to run Star Trek into the ground like they have the past several years, there won't be any loyal Trekkies left to complain. Star Trek has been on a downward slope since Voyager came out. The last two movies were mediocre at best, and I have yet to see that new series "Enterprise" (or "Akiraprise" as I have also seen it called) and I probably will never see it, I have not heard many good things about the show.
  23. There seem to be two philosophies I have seen concerning CG, George Lucas and Peter Jackson. Lucas seems to like to only use models if he can't use CG. And even when he uses models now, they look like CG. Go watch the "making of" featurette on the SW:EP2 disc two to see what I mean. Peter Jackson on the other hand only uses CG when he can not use models. If Lucas had done LOTR all of the Orcs would have been CG.
