  1. A few things to add to the list of games that have been made since DNF was announced: The entire Homeworld series All of the fps games based on WWII (other than the original Wolfenstein of course) The entire Total War series All of the Command & Conquer games since the first Red Alert Grim Fandango, Outpost 2, and Wing Commander Prophecy were all new on the shelf in 1997.
  2. The most common release date I have found is November first: on Wal-Mart, eb games and Amazon.com. Of course this is probably just a place holder for now until they know the real release date, Gamestop and Gamespot are still TBA. IGN is so far the only site I have found so far with September first as the release date. On the other hand, evidently those who are using steam can already download the game, so maybe the release is closer than you think. Personally I hate Steam, being a dial-up user and all.
  3. I just checked Totalwar.com, for what it's worth, they have confirmed that Rome is on schedule for a fall release. Anything in the Homeworld series is good.
  4. The other day, me and my father both saw a ghost dog. We were driving up a well lit street and saw a tan dog running up the median. It appeared to be solid normal dog until it faded into nothingness near the end of the median. My dad once made an amulet that blocks evil/malignant forces (he got into magic a little when he was in high school). It worked too. He decided to put it away after a few weird events connected with that thing. At one point, a friend of his tried to pick it up and it burned his hand, when my dad picked it up it told him through bone conduction (vibrated the bones in such a way to create audible sound) to "Put me back in my box!" when he dropped it into the box (wooden recharger box that my dad made for it, the book that he got the instructions from warned that the amulet could get a mind of its own if it were left in the recharger box for too long), it bounced as if it were made of muscle or something, which it wasn't. At that point, he taped the box closed and stuck it in the storage shed. Some years later (at least twenty I should think) we found that thing in the shed and on his 40th birthday, he took it out and wished for a van. A few days later, his supervisor's father died and he just happened to own a van. My father was not sure whether or not he could afford it, and a day or two later a car hit it, dropping the asking price to just within the range my dad was willing to afford. And the collision actually improved the front end alignment. That thing is still in its box in my dad's room, and neither of us are going to do anything with that thing. I would probably not be able to use it anyway, since I am not the one who made it, but I am sure as hell not going to ever touch that thing.
  5. Maybe, from what I read in PC Gamer about it, Doom 3's performance is much more dependent on the video card than the proc, but the minimum requirement is 1.5 gigahertz and at least 384 meg of ram or so, which my system just meets. Your Radeon might be powerful enough to make the difference though, but I wouldn't bet money on it. In Deus Ex I get about 4 or 5 fps in 1024x768, it really is a slideshow. In Doom 3 I think I must be at least getting 30 or so, even in the big open areas like the monorail ride, it runs pretty smooth.
  6. Wow, my aging rig can actually handle this game. I am getting pretty decent framerates (in my opinion at least, it stutters a bit in some places but overall it is pretty smooth running), 1024x768, Medium detail. Amazingly enough, I get better frame rates in Doom 3 than Deus Ex: Invisible War. At 1024x768, Deus Ex is a complete slideshow, I have to drop it to 800x600 just to make the game playable.
  7. How scripted will the game be? FS 1 and FS 2 were completely scripted, with full mission briefings and debriefings. I even created a mission for FS1 once, Spaceballs, it was based on that scene when they save the princess from her ship before it was tractored in by Dark Helmet's ship. In my version you had to prevent her ship from being boarded by enemy ships long enough for "Eagle One" to dock with it. I had sounds and everything, but it was lost a long time ago, on a busted hard drive in my back room somewhere. I really should try to recreate it for FS2, the Colossus would make a much cooler ship for Dark Helmet than that Vasudan Typhon I used in the old one, But this is getting way off topic... Will the new game follow the old format, or will it be more like the ACM campaign in UC, one continuous scenario? Either way I am sure you will do a great job with it!
  8. Ah, but we are still waiting to hear what SC has to say about it. For clarity, the burning question is what setting the solar reactor to "10" in power allocation actually does (if anything). SC is the only one who can really give us a definitive answer about this, he must have put it in the game for some reason (at least that is the hope, it could just be an inside joke or something). Until then, I am going to sit back and eat some more popcorn.
  9. Only if he could inflate it without needing patches.
  10. *Beavis voice* Heh, heh, Beam cannons are cool!
  11. My suggestion is to buy parts and build it yourself (after doing the proper research of course). In my case I "upgrade" what I have. I am still using a keyboard and floppy drive from my first PC, ye olde Packard Bell ('95 came with Windows 3.11). I am on the second generation of core stuff in my current case (video card, mobo, ram, proc). I will probably buy a bigger case next time, its getting kind of cramped in the little bugger I have now. I am waiting to see what happens with this new "BTX" formfactor I keep hearing about first though.
  12. Or Dangerous Waters for that matter
  13. "Daffy english knnniggits!"
  14. Make sure you have people that have decent ai flying those shuttles.
  15. This one is medical: A physician claims these are actual comments from his patients made while he was performing colonoscopies: 1. "Take it easy, Doc, you're boldly going where no man has gone before." 2. "Find Amelia Earhart yet?" 3. "Can you hear me NOW?" 4. "Oh boy, that was sphincterrific!" 5. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" 6. "You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married." 7. "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?" 8. "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out. You do The Hokey Pokey...." 9. "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!" 10. "If your hand doesn't fit, you must acquit!" 11. "Hey, Doc, let me know if you find my dignity." 12. "You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?" 13. "Could you write me a note for my wife, saying that my head is not, in fact, up there?"
  16. I have had the jumpgate flicker problem, ever since the retail release and it has looked the same throughout. It has just been the gates and stations for me. Also, firing the iod at the jumpgate makes the flicker more pronounced, seems like a reflective shader(?) effect. Either way, it still means waiting for a driver update so it's all academic really. I had a similar flicker problem in the game Homeworld 2 (just the mothership), which was cured by a driver update (a long time ago). So Nvidia and ATI had better get off of their collective asses and get to work fixing these driver issues.
  17. Recently I was recovering my drones from Mars, and I spotted two disabled enemy fighters just waiting to be towed to the nearest starbase. So I diverted two of the shuttles from their return trip and and sent them to tow those fighters. Unfortunatly when they arrived, they were smack in the middle of a firefight and were heavily damaged by enemy turret fire (their shields being down it did not take long of course). Unfortunately I had to wait until a bunch of intruders were eliminated before I could go pick them back up again. In the mean time, some opportunistic bastard (blue letter designation, I forget which) in a transport decided to tractor one of my disabled shuttles and run off with it. After the last of the intruders were dealt with, I picked up the less badly damaged shuttle and then hypered over and locked a tractor beam on that transport. Then I was faced with a dilemma, how to get my shuttle back without blowing up an innocent civi ship. But before long my problem was solved for me, I was boarded by intruders again, and just guess what system they decided to sabotage first (it being turned on and all) the tractor beam. Evidently, when the tractor beam is heavily damaged, it will occasionally (and quite successfully I might add) try to crush the towed ship like an empty beer can. This of course, solved the problem of getting my shuttle back. I might have even thanked those intruders, if they weren't all lying in pools of their own blood and feces.
  18. The AE as commander, represents his race, all the other officers on board are cheap mass produced clones. The lower level personnel, the medics, marines, and engineers are probably the same race as the AE but they are wearing masks, so there is know way to really know. Think about it, when a marine dies, you have to pay money to recruit a new one, but if Resnig dies, he gets replaced for free.
  19. Ah the Megaron, so wonderfully Klingonesque, and with such awesome PTA coverage. Too bad my fighters are always getting banged up (they just HAD to go attack that damn Stormcarrier).
  20. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it's old (1980s as I recall) it's cheesy. It is based on the BBC radio program (which actually came before the books). Dune. David Lynch, 1984. People seem to have a love/hate relationship with this movie, primarily depended on whether the person has read the books or not before watching it. I read the books because I loved this movie, and I think that it is infinitly better than that miniseries they had on SciFi, damn they had such stupid costumes, (Reverend Mother Cher and her stupid winged hat *grumble* grumble*)
  21. I have a Ruger MkII Competition Target pistol (slab-side bull barrel, comes standard with scope rings) I bought two extra magazines (total of four) and a holster, had to find one that could convert for left hand, being a southpaw shooter and all. I also have a .50 black powder rifle I have two bows, a 55# Bear Super Kodiac recurve bow and an 50# Intermature Viper longbow. I have three swords: Narsil from LOTR, dull as hell, terrible balance. A full tang stainless "No frills" katana from CAS Iberia, cuts reasonably well but the handle is a bit slippery to hold for really serious cutting, perfectly good for sword kata though. "Warbrand" from Museum Replicas Limited. Hand forged high carbon steel from Windlass Steelcrafts, full tang, looks like a giant carving knife, wonderful balance, razor sharp (I paid extra for the sharpening service). It cuts very well. As far as knives go, I a sword hilted dagger from Museum replicas. A bayonet, and a couple of knives made by some local makers including a railroad spike knife I made when I was in the Boy Scouts. As for the other two, one is a "Bowen Blade" made by a guy in West Virginia, looks sort of like a bowie, the blade is almost as thick as an axe blade. The other is a more artistic looking knife made by a guy named Stu. Beyond that I have three bokken: a regular bokken, a suburi bokken (much larger, often times refered to as "Musashi's Oar," good for exercising the wrists, as long as you don't over do it) and a small wakizashi sized bokken. I have about three shinais, two from Century Martial Arts, and one from ebogu.com. Two are in working order, one of them needs a new slat (one of the Century ones the ebogu shinai is much higher quality). I also have a set of Kendo armor (I am a Nikkyu in Kendo after all), that I am gradually replacing with a newer higher quality set. I also have a hanjo that I made from a hickory sledgehammer handle, for my Karate class (Chikubukai, I think I spelled that right). Getting further into the practice weapons, I have a bunch of padded weapons made out of foam, duct tape, and PVC pipe. Go here to check out some real nuts that get into that stuff.
  22. I got Gonzo too. I wonder which muppet Resnig is?
