  1. None of MY machines, have any similarity to your equipment, so I am NOT qualified, to identify anything, which may cause your system to crash. I had a corrupt save files, once, but That was long before latest updates were availiable. I dont know, maybe someone else can help you, or you can re-examine your install proceedure,(order in which you installed WHICH update and insure they were installed from the proper folders..etc) and compare this to information on the board. do some searches, as to the video, and sound card compatabilities ..using the search feature at the top of the forum. search for your video card..and read what others have experienced with like cards....etc. etc. (I had some video card settings, which caused crashes) check your system, to INSURE, there are NO conflicts, video/ sound/ mouse...etc. ( I have had interrupt conflicts, hang, the sound, and cause crashes) Check, your cd-ROM...insure, it is in DMA mode...etc.( I had one cd-rom crash, 1 out of every few hundred access, due to a corrupt installation of a CD-ROM driver. This one took me a month to find ) No one on this board could possibly have helped me solve that one!! maybe this will help, maybe not, but good luck to you.
  2. quote:this is the only game i have ever played that the save game feature was flawed, but then again i have only played a few PC games altogether. It's NOT really flawed. I have no problems, as well as many others. Be sure you have the most up-to-date patch installed, from the proper directory. If you DO have a corrupt save, the reason.. would be unknown to me. And IF, that is DEFINATELY what has happened...I would clean everything off, and try a fresh new setup(all the proper patches, in correct sequence..etc.) and start over. Double check, your system resources, and the like. Insure, you have everything proper. The Game is EXTREMELY solid, and bug free.
  3. It is'nt really bush's fault....I mean really!.. Look at the people, who are standing behind bush, and you see the character(or lack of, rather.)of bush himself. Makes me nausious when I see the condition of my country. I am Sick, that Kerry is the best hope we have in getting a real Idiot out of office, but what other rational choice do we have?
  4. quote: Twenty-five hours of sun-bathing didn't do me any good. x = 0 you should have one hell of a space tan quote: quote: Originally posted by Street: Yes, Could you elaborate on that and finnish the sentence, please? Yes, some of the systems(engine,...etc) won't run on solar power alone...your observations, in those respects, are correct. BUT everything can be turned on and powered, in logistix. This is what I meant, and I believe this is intended, and as designed. The question concerning the power settings on the Solar reactor, is my only "unknown". Its like having a light switch, and NOT knowing what it turns on and off. If, I had a REAL ship, at my REAL-LIFE disposal....I'd have Kendrick tearing it down, and tracing, the wires!!. " KENDRICK, I said: GET ON IT!....NOW!!! "
  5. quote:If this were only true. Sometimes (actually most of the time), I wish I could just pack my stuff, jump in my own private ship, blow this rock, and take a tour of the galaxy. Never to be seen again. This, however, will never happen in my lifetime or many lifetimes to come (if ever). LOL, I can relate to that! Though space is NOT presently an acheivable goal, we still have the ocean, with all it's vastness. A nice, little 6 man submarine, IS attainable...though, I would prefer, a 1-man/5-women modle, myself. Then, we could all raise hell, when the chicken-shit republicans, move their convention to some remote island, for SECURITY...from those, they have hurt, or even their own constituents... 7. quote: I actually went on the attack one time, and FORGOT to raise my shields... I took out four fighters before I realized I had my shields down. Never took a hit either. Luck of the Irish?? I never, get that lucky. When I do things like that, I seldom get lucky enough to survive.
  8. I hope this is in the right place....so here goes... I suppose, most people, have their own way of playing UC, in single player(ROAM) mode. That's just the way this game is. I am going to give an example, as to how I play the game. I have been playing my present game, just following the release of the (.11) patch. I have since installed the latest (.12) update, and have continued playing the same game. I assumed the identity of a Ter/Mil commander of a Garid, and launched from Galcom; Earth.(04/04/3030) ROAM, with full NPC Generation. Immediately after launch, I decide, to land on earth for a little mining. I was about 70 meters from Earth (20 meters from planetfall), when a a mk1 came out of nowhere, and started pounding my shields. I tried to turn and take him on, but the shields were already down to 30%, and he stayed on me as I was turning. I noticed, I was only about 10 meters from entering planetfall, now. About the time I heard the first " warning damage", I changed my mind, and decided to try and enter the atmosphere. I thrust the controls in the opposite direction. Momentarily, there was a pause in the sound of bombardments against the hull. It felt like the commander of the MK1 had initially second guessed me correctly, AND my impulsive dive toward the planet had shook him loose. The shields had just started to slightly charge, and that "warning damage", which had already began to sound like a broken record, suddenly stopped. I heard "Warning......"; and suddenly, was watching planetfall. Thus: it Begins! I spend the next two weeks, mining and exploring earth(And doing repairs). I only use one mining drone, at a time. I enjoy, taking my time...extracting and deploying each evening. Then, using the shuttle to make runs to the StarStation for money, parts, upgrades, and etc.,every few days . I leave the game running, 24/7 and only spend a little while after work, or a little while before I go to bed, playing. This is about an hour...it might be each night...or it may be, up to 3 days apart....but the game...I leave running, as I have it on a dedicated system. Of course, this means: making damn sure, my ship is in a safe place, or has adequate protection, when I leave it. I DONT want my ship destroyed, while I am asleep, or at work. This means landing it someplace, or finding a place, where there is little, or no enemy activity. I do both, depending on my assessment at the time. after a couple of weeks on earth, I decide to check out the moon. I spend a week there, doing the same. Leaving the moon, for earth, and on to mars; I have most of the Necessary upgrades, and am doing much better, with the occasional Enemy trying to off me. I dont attack them, but Only engage, when given no choice. This eliminates unecessary delays, doing repairs and such, Until getting ALL the upgrades, and the ship stocked to the gills. At this point, my only concern, is survival. I spend a few days hanging around mars, and getting the ship maxed out, with upgrades, missiles, plutonium, and Radine and etc. All my crew AI are 100%. It has taken me about a month, (Realtime and Gametime)to get to this position. I am On the bridge about an hour each night, but I am "always" playing. (MICROMANAGEMENT: I love you!) On friday nights, I put in (a little?) more time. On Sunday afternoons, I spend the day staging ground assults on the MUL/RAI bases on mars. Now, I am ready, to move out.......And see what is REALLY out there, and what I can do, to make my mark!(5/04/3030) I jump to jupiter, and start attacking red blips...always ready to jump and run, if things get overwhelming. I only have had to do that a couple of times, to get reoriented (get the shields charged) and continue the fight. After my crew gets exhausted, I jump back to the mars region. The Mars region has become disturbingly quiet, I have been able to just hang around, without fear of attack. I shut down the engines, and the shields and let the crew go on about their business(just a little management, of course) The next day, I come home from work, and send all the officers to medbay, and put a skeleton crew to work. Giving the rest of the crew, time off. This takes about 5 minutes, then, I go on about working at my other computer and/or working on my various projects. The UC computer, Always running. When my crew is rested, I put the officers back on duty. After a reasonable amount of time, I can make a jump into hostile space, and fight for a few minutes, to an hour...retrieving cargo pods and such. When my crew is ready for a break, I jump back to a safe Region, or land.I shut down Engine, in logistix ,to conserve fuel. I Do a save, Resume, and go to bed. Everyday, is roughly a similar routine, but doing various things... Like " buying supplies or OTS MUL/RAI bases, to up my experiance points; thus increasing my salary. This, builds all week long. I find it is sufficiant at $200000 to support nightly or bi-nightly excursions by the date (5/11/3030). I treat the UC system, as I have always treated my computerized chess board, of the past. I use to set it on infinate, and leave it running, while I went on about my business. It would move, once about every two days. I find UC is this kind of game. I can play while working, reading, or watching TV. I can jump in for a few minutes to an hour, anytime or when the klaxon sounds, just as I could move a chess piece, when the board beeped, "YOUR TURN". I love, that in UC. Along with the added benifit, of moving whenever you choose, too. My newest strategy, is to capture MUL/RAI Pixan, through a seige. I have cleaned out most of their ships. (I hope). Their ODS is history. It took me a week of hit and runs, to get the Lennen Region clear of hostiles and neutrals. I have now been cruising around with my shields down, for about 7 days. Once, I got as close as 2000 meters. I turned and abandoned my attack, when a TER/MIL MK1 jumped to the base and was blown to pieces(not too awful far, ahead of me). That was the last time, the station dispatched any ships. 2 ravans. I took them to out, when they came after me. That was 5 days ago. When I need supplies, I jump in a shuttle and run to Lyrius region, and dock with wraith. I then rush back to my ship, for fear it may be attacked, while I'm away. Pixan, has some impressive defense capability, and I am being very careful NOT to get blown away by the station. All the while, trying to find precisely how to approach it, for a missle bombardment. I still dont know how long I will have to maintain this seige.(I love it) It is now 5/25/3030(51 days of actual game time) I have one violation, I have $8,333,336 credits. My inventory value is $13,823,150 I have 53841 exp points.A Salary of 200000 credits.A full crew compliment for a GARID, except those recently replaced, are at 100% AI. I have NO awards, yet. I am sure oportunity will arise, where they can be earned, as well. I find the Garid, much more of a challange, than playing with a battlecruiser or Supercarrier. I liken the whole strategic capability of the game, equivalant to Chess, but with the RPG and first person graphic playing ability included. I am sure, everyone has a different preferance of play, within the single player(ROAM) enviroment, but I just wanted to share...my way of playing and enjoying the game. I know there are many who, just, flat..."DONT get it". I felt, they would be the one's to benefit from this.
  9. I have tried the supercarriers, and really liked em. Then I tried another scenerio with the mk1..got where I liked it too. My Latest endever, has been the garid. I didnt think much of it at first, but now (game date may 25th) I have become very attached, and fond of its capabilities. NOT having the benefits from artifacts, and the cloaking device have given me a renewed challenge

I would then, have pointed out the REVERSE. You seem to have the capacity to SLAM one side, and keep yourself blind to the CORRUPTION on the other. I SEE BOTH. And have the ability and SELF RESPECT, to ADMIT IT. My observations, are NOT politically BIASED, but RATIONAL...across the board. This is how, I can be a REPUBLICAN...and condemn the ACTIONS, and recognize the IGNORANCE..of the candidate, I helped put in office. I can just as EASILY, attempt to REMOVE said candidate....from that office. The only means, I have to do this, is to vote for the DEMOCRATS...duh! This is the difference between, educated voters, and party zealots. The latter, such as yourself, are a DANGER to rational action, and logical thinking. Please, dont take offence, but I will NOT apologize for stating the "truthful" and OBVIOUS! [ 08-24-2004, 03:06 PM: Message edited by: street ]

To judge by the perspective of ACTIVE politicians, and your general HAM laymen...BUSH has got to go...is the theme. EVERYWHERE, I go...(resteraunts, coffee shops, and even at the county club)I am hearing "REPUBLICANS" stating the same thing: "Bush has GOT to go" Now, I am not the smartest man in the world, but just by listening...I would say, the BUSH days, are about over.

LOL..I think there is ENOUGH guilt; If all were known, The BAD guys, are littered throughout BOTH parties. I am sure, if the studies were conducted, in states, which have a majority REPUBLICAN vote, the results would show 68% republican...or the majority of cheaters on the republican side. It is ALL relative!!
  21. I NEVER, pay for an EXTENDED warranty. I have found, that: USUALLY, if the product last through the it's INITIAL warranty period, it will probably last 20 years. If not?...I throw it on a shelf, in the shop and it sits there... until I either fix it, or scrap it for parts
  22. Nomad, your presentation, though offering a very practical view with logical and objective reason, is beyond the comprehension of those, who have allowed themselves to be embellished with politically biased views. The implimention of a DIRECT democracy, with a population tainted by views of such radical polarity, would be a VERY dangerous combination at present. I personally do NOT think, the american people are ready for such a move; however, I do NOT think the people are too stupid to handle such a system either(as do the politicians). I just feel, some form of massive EDUCATION, with REAL information, is necessary FIRST. I do not expect such a development, as those who hold the reigns to power, seldom release hold of their advantage, except when forced. And, MOST American civilians, have'nt courage to face ANYTHING themselves, but depend on POLICE, or MILITARY intervention......to such a degree....the most corrupt, operate with the most immunity, and the victims, are as likely to be punished, for actively standing against them. It is NOT hopeless, but likelyhood of success, is minute.

Yet I've lost my reactor, been on the dark side of a planet and seemed to have power, so do I guess I have a battery, but the new docs don't mention it. **SC's Response: 2. Yes. The solar battery is dynamic, not static. Which is why Gallion thinks they weren't in there. They were and still are. Here, SC confirms, there IS a battery and it is DYNAMIC, rather than static. Thus the higher the setting, the BIGGER the DYNAMIC battery's charge will be and the LONGER it will hold that power. quote:Yet I've lost my reactor, been on the dark side of a planet and seemed to have power, so do I guess I have a battery, This, I have NOT seen. In conclusion: It LOOKS like, you run around with the thing set to 10, and then, you find yourself in a situation, where there is NO light source, and your NR shuts down...and life support will maintain for an x amount of time. If you run around with it set to 1 (or a lower number than 10)... and same scenerio occurs.... no light, and no NR.... life support and etc, will maintain, LESS THAN X, amount of time. AND THAT IS THAT. NOW...to prove it!!
