    Roll Call

lol,thx liddo Oh, and just my 2 cents on organizing the fleet... Maybe a few commanders can get together and make a "Raider's Code" of some sorts? A declaration of intentions and objectives along with several basic rules that all raiders must abide by? For example, Raiders never prey on fellow raiders. Raiders always assist fellow raiders in distress. A Raider Commander may never forcefully recruit/impress another Raider Commander into an organized Raiding Party, although cooperation and organization are always encouraged. Just something simple to start out with. Every fleet needs a strong foundation, right? Especially a fleet made up of indie's. Don't want to overcomplicate things too early on

    Roll Call

Hi all! I'm active in the forums but not yet playing MP. I will probably be playing MP in a couple months or so when I get back to college. I am not affiliated with any official fleet as of now. Getting a fleet of independant commanders together sounds like a great way to shake up the UC Universe I'll agree to sign up to help increase the number of active members, but I won't be able to play MP for a while. I just have a 56k connection I'll go register and check this thread for replies later on. Happy Raiding!
  3. I agree with Meras. I don't think efficient use of the SR will make or break your ship in most common circumstances. Besides, Radine is cheap and solar power is way overrated. Overclocking your engine to level "10" and ignoring the environmentally hazordous byproducts of inefficient radine combustion is the way to go. Ya bunch of silly tree huging hippy liberals figuring out how to run your forest friendly solar reactors. Eat my exhaust fumes!

"...pray to an elderly gentleman with a long white beard flanked by angels." "I will now recite ten pages of the Tutorial and six of the Manual in penance (and then return to see whether anyone else has personal information or historical anecdotes which will help convince me that SC is a human being - or, alternatively, whether there are other heresies/heretics on the forums ... if so I do not want to know their fate (I have enjoyed the forums and don't want to get banned) only whether there is any way to escape His wrath or resurrect my faith." Apple, dude, you are very confused... We are not members of a church. This is not a cult following. Nobody here is serving Koolaid. We don't hold hands and chant... at least not on a regular basis... And if anyone here says, "Derek Smart is God" its just a figure of speech. I'm amazed this post has stayed up this long. This is not a UC game discussion. If this post belongs anywhere it probably belongs in "Politics and Religion".
  5. So, if an enemy Marine decides to break off his attack, hijack a MFB, and turn me into road-kill while I am alone, on foot and without cover.... I'll run straight at it, grab the front bumper of the MFB, swing underneath and wait until the baddie stops to examine my corpse when I'll riddle him with laser shots. Wow... I'm glad I read this thread, otherwise I would have never known how to outwit and defeat the Maniacal MFB Driving Marine! Although, on a more serious note, it is interesting that marines can "grab onto" the bottom "support structure" of the MFB... (I wonder if I can make a non-sarcastic post... hmm)
  6. Ok, I got tired of waiting around and asking in vain for SC to explain the inner workings of the solar reactor. I looked around for the most knowledgeable authority on Universal Combat other than SC to help us out. My search eventually brought me into contact with... Dreamcatcher. Me: Thanks for granting me this interview concerning UC DC Exec: You see what? Where? Me: Huh? Anyway many gamers, myself included, cant understand what this solar reactor is all about. We have done the math and things just dont add up. DC Exec: Solar Reactor? Sorry, not at liberty to talk about that. Me: *sigh* Can you just maybe tell us how to use it efficiently? For example, I usually set the solar reactor at the 10 power setting. DC Exec: Oh no! You shouldnt set it at 10 That is way too high. Between you and me, the solar reactor is pretty low quality. You should set it at 5. Me: So, I should reduce the power setting because... why? DC Exec: Man, I already had to explain this twice to our marketing people this morning OK! Its simple. With low quality games uhm solar reactors, you need to divide the cost by two so that you can double your returns. So 5 turns out to be like...17!!! And if youre smart you invest the extra returns For example, we have this new game titled, Painkiller *chuckles* Its a clever pun you see get it? Pain... Me: *sigh* this interview is over.
  7. Couple quick questions that seem to belong in this thread... An intruder steals one of my fighters and exits into space. I turn on my tractor beam to recover my fighter. As the tractor beam locks onto the fighter, the fighter suddenly explodes. This has happened to me a few times. a) Did the intruder self destruct the fighter? a.1) If so is there any way I can recover fighters stolen by intruders? Did I cause the explosion by doing something n00bish? Thanks in advance for any help
  8. I picked up a copy of UC because it was 20 bucks (I only had $23) and because the screenies and game description on the back of the box seemed pretty cool. I had no prior knowledge concerning this game title. I hadn't read a single review. I just figured it was a cheap way to get my sci fi gaming fix(I was expecting something like... Freelancer, lol). The first hour I spent downloading patches, adjusting my computer, and messing around with options to get everything working and looking good. After everything was installed I just started messing around in Campaign, Roam and Instant Action to learn how to play. Initially I was very confused and I died... a lot. In frustration I made a visit to the 3000AD forums. My first impression of the 3000AD forums? WOW, OH THANK GOD!!! A tight-knit community of gamers and developers that are incredibly helpful and organized. :-) Seriously, I was and still am VERY impressed with everything and everyone here. I've been going back and forth between reading forum info and playing UC for about 8 hours now. The experiance has been great. Frustrating at times... but great nonetheless. I haven't even experianced most of what UC has to offer yet it has already changed my expectations of space simulators forever. I don't think I'll ever be able to play(or at least enjoy) a "dumbed down" space sim ever again. Ok... I won't bother including hundreds of more lines of text describing how much I love this game or how addicted I am now... I'm sure you readers have heard it all ;-) I'll just finish up by saying that my initial gaming experiance could have been vastly improved if I had realized how vital it was to make a visit to the 3000AD forums for extra help and info. I figured I could just take the game out of the box, install, play and enjoy. The UC box cover said lots of great things about the game itself but absolutely nothing about it's great gaming community/forums! :-( Visiting the forums and learning about the whole Battlercruiser/UC universe has been just as engaging, interesting and fun as playing UC itself. I would have glady paid 50 bucks for this game had I known what I was getting into beforehand. Once I get a debit card maybe I can donate an extra $30 over paypal or something? Yup, I'm hooked.
