    Beta?

Been watching, waiting. Pop into IRC! (irc.gamesurge.net #battlecruiser) We can wait together.
  2. I wouldn't know, but I didn't see at release all that much going on with the game multiplayer wise. Personally, I'm waiting for the deal with the mini-DLC-expansion-thingy and the game, which was suppose to come out late January.
  3. Jeff Vogel is one of the more widely known Indie game developers, his company SpiderWeb Software has over the years created the Exile, Geneforge and Avernum series among others. Recently he started a blog, and I saw this very interesting post on there about indie game development and the costs *click*, I thought perhaps some people here might be interested in it. I'm happy to say that I've bought all his Geneforge games over the years, and some of the Avernum (I find the controls in Avernum a tad annoying). They're great games, with massive demos, too massive really. It is too bad that such good development isn't rewarded with more profit - though with his games, they're going to be sold for who knows how long, so eventually they will hit the black, unlike mainstream games. Being an indie dev is tough, eh? Especially without another job!
  4. Humm, well this isn't too good. Seems that AVaults forums crashed and they didn't have any backups, and therefore have to revert to a 2007 version. This is really bad for two reasons; 1.) The forum thread is gone, and therefore all those wonderful answers and 2.) The user accounts are gone, so it'll be difficult to recieve a beta key for AAW. Read more about it here. Gee, I hope that if I was chosen for a key from there, I'll still somehow be able to get it.
  5. Remember, UC has distance based sound I believe for everything, and its set within a 250km range (Source: GAME_OPTIONS.PDF). This may be what you're issue is, you're too far away? Edit: From ucfaq.html Edit2: Ugh, reread your post and I got it backwords. No real idea why it would do that, but perhaps there is an issue with your soundcard? Is it onboard or dedicated? Drivers up to date, etc?
  6. Yeah, Mount & Blade is amazing. I bought it years ago for 10$ or so. Its only two or three people that made it. I feel that these are a prime example of why the independent game development industry should shine. Theres no way a big dev company would do something like this, its too risky. I also suck at it almost as much as UC
  7. Might want to look at the key command document that came with the game, it lists them all. In the /Docs/ folder in the Universal Combat folder. Also is usually put in the start menu folder. It really helps. My advice would be 'practice makes perfect'. ;P
  8. You cannot edit directly the data within BCM/UC. However there are editing tools released for it, you should have a copy of them with the game (at least with UCCE it came with it). GBS is what you're suppose to look for GBS II through IV depending on what game and version you wish to edit. Look in the editing forums (a ways below this category.)
  9. People may not know about it in the US, but here in Canada and other countries we know about it, if only because it is full of such good deals, but isn't available outside of America.
  10. It looks good, except, isn't the Enterprise just too clean? I mean, its bright and white, and just bright and white. Where are all the nice greys and various colours that were spread throughout the set of the classic series? Also, isn't everyone just so clean, and not sweaty? All the unique quarks of the original series seem to be slowly fading. However, I am still looking forward to it, the vague looking Kirk and all!
  11. I didn't even know that there was an IRC channel, though from reading the post it seems like its actually being added. Which will be fun, if I can get the direct links (since I do use my own client). The only Java client for IRC I've really ever used/saw is pjIRC, which is pretty good. Edit: Oh my, this is real thread necromancy and I didn't see it to begin with. How odd that this was brought back up. Kindof interesting that it took six years to get Java working there Quazar.
  12. Humm, 360 as well. That should be interesting - there wouldn't be any chance that it will be a 'Games for Windows LIVE' title. I realize that its pretty much a failure, but some features, such as the cross-platform multiplayer are pretty interesting. And, open beta in Feb? A great birthday present.
  13. Should I feel bad that whenever I see the 'standing' stance, all I can think is that they're going to hug me, or show off that they're strong (grr!)? As for a question - since the release said that it takes place in 400kmsq, will the terrain be dotted more with more detailed structures and establishments? As in, detailed cities, etc? Otherwise, right now I just can't wait for it to come out, it looks so interesting!
  14. Well, I hope that SouthPeak continues to hold the developers that were on with GameCock - One of my favourite small time developers, Firefly Studios has had some bad time with developers - First the 'Gathering of Developers' and then Take 2, and now GameCock. Poor fellows, because of Take 2 they've lost a lot face (See: Stronghold 2). But I still like 'em.
  15. I've had an issue like this before with SecURom with Firefly Studios Stronghold 2. However, sending the file to SecURom they were able to give a repaired .exe and I was able to play again. Never was told exactly what caused the issue - Since I don't emulate at all.
  16. I wouldn't say its the best, far from it. What WoW did was a bit of luck, and a lot of good marketing. The game isn't unique - It uses a lot of resources from pretty much every other mmo (design wise) and does them pretty good. It also came out in a drought of new MMOs really, and it has a huge amount of money behind it for marketing (that grows with the massive amount of people that pay into it monthly). Personally, I play for the unique games - So I go between Ultima Online, and Vanguard: Saga Of Heroes. These two games keep me going, though I had my WoW phase, sadly.
  17. I was going around Halifax, popping into the little Pawn shops that are in the city, and I was amazed by what I found. To believe that there still, today are copies of it floating around, and sealed none the less! It was 2$, so I bought it and took a couple photos to prove it. (Sorry about the quality - Main camera is dead and the settings on the old one is pretty messed up - But I think the point got across!) Front: Back: Sadly, its just jewel case. But interesting none the less. And, if its not obvious - its 2.0, not 1.0. I have UCCE so, I'm wondering if I should open it, or keep it as a collectors item.
  18. Pretty spiffy? I suppose I might may have been, if it wasn't an uttery copy of Opera. The features in it, the way it works, the hotkeys, all are the same. Pretty amusing too, because its not nearly as fast as rendering and locks up quite well on some flash stuff. Personally, if you like it - I think you'd like Opera more.
  19. Duck and cover! We're doomed, we're doomed! This should be really interesting, whether it goes wrong or not - That's to be seen. Though, I would truly be surprised that if something does go wrong, that we'll know anything about it until either its too late, or long over. If nothing awful does happen, its bound to unlock a few mysteries, hopefully sooner than later.
  20. Ahh, okay then! Thanks, I just wanted to know if I was missing out on something important!
  21. I'm not sure if you all handle issues with GameCQ, if not I apologize and ask if I can be pointed in the right direction. I've edited the stickies information requirements, since it isn't an ingame issue, if there is information you need I will gladly post it. OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows XP Home SP3 OS ENVIRONMENT: 1280x1024 32bit / 1024x768 32bit GAME VERSION: Most current patch, and the default install. PROBLEM: Whenever GameCQ is launched, I get the connecting to meta.xxx, then connecting to GameCQ server, then I login to my account. It logs in and brings up the screen for GameCQ and promptly crashes, giving me the 'This application has encountered a problem and most close' dialog box,I ofcourse send in the error to Microsoft, not that it'll do much. This issue has persisted from the default version of UCCE that came on the disc, to the latest version. I have a feeling, since I haven't seen any other posts about this, I suspect its an issue with my System, and if so its not a big deal (Satellite internet, can't really play). I just wanted to get this sorted out. Here is the GameCQ 'GCQL.log' Picture of Error. I have it installed in 'K:\Program Files\3000AD\GameCQ'. The program says its 1.0.0.1. Thank you for any help you can give! TO REPRODUCE: Just load up GameCQ and login, when the main screen comes up, theres where the issue appears.
  22. There are a couple of these type of games out there right now, and they're nice, but from what I've saw they don't have a lot of long-term depth or staying power. However I will admit that I have not played them much - Mainly because they do not handle latency very well and my satellite connection doesn't bide for good gameplay for myself in most situations.
  23. I believe a few recent patches changed how games were saved, making older versions incompatible. Therefore, you're either going to have to un and then reinstall the game and play with an unpatched version, or you should patch to the fullest (which I would think would be the automatic thing to do) and continue on from there. Use the autoupdater, it works the best and its quite fast. As for your crash, I'd suggest a reinstall.
  24. Direct from the source, can't get any better than that. I've take the liberty of reinstalling Diablo 2, sadly I don't have Lord of Destruction so I'll only be playing up to Diablos timely defeat. Battle.Net though, US East! Going to play a Barbarian this time around I believe, did a Necromancer last time back in '03.
  25. Okay then, second question - Is there any chance of getting GALCOM available on Steam? Since it'll be a digital purchase I like to have all my games in one spot.
