Epsilon 5 Posted November 24, 2000 Report Posted November 24, 2000 Well, well. I have bc3k 2.00 on my install CD. I later upgraded to 2.08 successfully. Then I upgraded to 2.09, but when the game tries yo start, it gives me a DOS/4GW protection fault (you know, these long complicated errors wich are the protected mode version of the Win BSOD ).Here is my system description: Pentium 150mhz, 32mb RAM 1.2gigs HDD, still 300mb free after patch installed Windows 95 OSR2 english, DX 6.01 1mb Cirrus Logic non-3Dfx video card with C.L drivers (not Windows's ones) Soundblaster 16 audio card Nothing runs in the background (except W95...) My CD isn't scratched, my 8x CD-ROM drive works alright. And the 3000ad technical support give me an automated video problem response e-mail that talks about only 3Dfx and that don't help at all...
Gordon Posted November 25, 2000 Report Posted November 25, 2000 BC3K did not work with my system which also had a Cirrus Logic chip. I would suggest upgrading to a 3D card as they are more affordable these days.
Epsilon 5 Posted November 25, 2000 Author Report Posted November 25, 2000 Thanks. I will stay with 2.08 until I upgrade my video card, which will happen (I think) soon.
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 27, 2000 Report Posted November 27, 2000 There are no graphics changes between 2.08 and 2.09. So, the graphics card is probably not the issue. Did you remember to delete all saved games in the SAVE folder? Did you apply the correct patch? Are you running the software version and not the 3DFX version?
Epsilon 5 Posted November 27, 2000 Author Report Posted November 27, 2000 I re-downloaded the 2.09 patch on the 3000ad website, deleted my save directory content (I wasn't very far anyway) and re-patched.Now, I restart the game in normal mode. It detects the 1024kb Cirrus Logic graphic mode and... it works?!? Further tests confirm it: the Stalker-IV is now on duty!
