R_wilco Posted August 6, 2001 Report Posted August 6, 2001 First off, this only works in BC3K 2.0X, it will NOT work in BCM(I've tried )It involves using the VTOL system. With VTOL on, when you push forward on the up arrow(or joystick), it accelerates your ship forward. What I've found is that, in space, after getting your craft to the maximum speed it can go(usualy about 2000), hit CapsLock to enable VTOL, then push forward. This brings the speed up even more. Quickly hit CAPS again before your speed goes back down, and again to set it at the faster speed. If you repeat this, you can get the craft going VERY fast. I got the BC up to 50,000 KPS once! After that I got bored with it, but it's a good trick for outrunning enemies or getting somewhere without hyperspacing.
Guest Posted August 9, 2001 Report Posted August 9, 2001 Probably because he was waiting for his hyper drive to recharge...
R_wilco Posted August 9, 2001 Author Report Posted August 9, 2001 Actualy, when I first figured this trick out, I was new to the game(I had just seen BC3K in the bargin bin of a computer store, and I remembered an article in CGW in 1994 about an awesome new game...)so I didn't know that the ship's reactor used a fuel source at all. I was hyperspacing all over the place at my every whim, only at one point I didn't have enough radine crystals. After some experiments with interceptors and the VTOL system, I found that trick out.SLOWING DOWN, on the other hand, is a big problem. You can do the trick backwards, which barely works, you can turn the ship around a lot to lose momentum, or you can just wait until you are within range of a space station, and hit ALT-D to dock. Give REAL physics, going from 50,000 to 0 in 3 seconds would be like that one scene in "SpaceBalls" . But I see it as the station's tractor beams pulling you in(or something).
Wolferz Posted August 9, 2001 Report Posted August 9, 2001 Try the " + " and " - " keys.Hold the plus key down and tell me what happens.
Epsilon 5 Posted August 9, 2001 Report Posted August 9, 2001 I never go at more than 2250 with that trick. Is there a way to hyperspace to a randomly set point? I set a waypoint, but it don't want to hyper to that point.
Rico Jansen Posted August 10, 2001 Report Posted August 10, 2001 Best way to shorten a long (planet side) trip is to go into space again, fire up tacops, set a waypoint at your destination on the planet, log off tacops and kick in the AP/AI. It should re-enter and have you end up almost on top of your destination. But that was probably not your intention in the first place. [ 08-09-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
Guest jhnphm Posted August 20, 2001 Report Posted August 20, 2001 A better way to go real fast is to set the autopilot to go somewhere distant, wait til you go fast enough, shut off the autopilot, then point the ship toward your destination. Turning the ship slows it down a little, but you can still go pretty fast
Soback Posted August 20, 2001 Report Posted August 20, 2001 Why is that? Why can an autopilot fly faster then your maximum throttle setting?
seacow Posted September 27, 2001 Report Posted September 27, 2001 I think it is becouse the autopilot system maximizes the enginepower in a way to make your ship go as fast as possebly.I think you can do this manually by using the power allocation panel.Well this was just philosophy, im a newbie
Rico Jansen Posted September 27, 2001 Report Posted September 27, 2001 Your ship is preparing to hyperjump. But then you abort the procedure and the ship stays in the same state (speed). Don't think too much of it. You just can.
Sailor Posted October 29, 2001 Report Posted October 29, 2001 If I need to hyperjump always use a shuttle to pull me bc around saves me n a ton of fuel and time. Namely sense just my shuttle hypersystems just have to regain
Epsilon 5 Posted October 29, 2001 Report Posted October 29, 2001 Just don't do that in a combat zone. (tractor beam = shields off)Yes it's a very good trick. Especially in the ACM.
