Brian1 Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 I have an enemy fighter beat up and emitting an SOS. One of my own fighters was destroyed in the same battle. Is there anyway to capture the SOS fighter and bring it onboard for my own use?Everything I try leads to the enemy fighter exploding. Seems to explode whenever I turn off the tractor beam of what ever drags it to my carrier.Note: that the SOS fighter is travelling at a very high speed so I can't exit into a spacesuit unless it is first captured in a tractor beam and towed to a stop.

You can, however, bring it in for a "bounty" (experience or money). Have one of your shuttles tractor it and then order the shuttle to "Deliver to" (it's a choice on the orders menu) the nearest friendly station. Once the shuttle drops it off you'll get a reward.Or you can just get revenge for your lost fighter and blow the little ***** away.

Cmdr Nova Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 You know, it doesn't even have to be disabled or show an SOS for you to tow it for a reward.... Also, it seems that if you get close enough to an active enemy to tractor it, it won't be able to attack the shuttle or whatever that's towing it. ------ GCV Supremacy Ship StatsMission Time: 15:35 Integrity: 99% Casualties: 1 Combat Kills: 3 Combat Captures (Enemy): 6 Capital Ships, 3 Interceptors Trading Runs: 6 Inventory + Cash in Account Combined: 35+ Million GalCreds ----- Most of that cash came from my capturing of ships, the rest came from my mining operations, and trade runs...... Capturing is pretty profitable, if ya ask me.

Their PTA system will blow you apart if you try to get too near to them while they're still active. Although I haven't had any trouble ordering my shuttles to pick up unarmed transports for time to time and turn them in .[ 12-12-2001: Message edited by: Simparadox ]

Supreme Cmdr Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 And most SOS ships are booby trapped to self-destruct. You want to watch for that.

Well, you live and learn eh?Actually, this happened to me last night. I thought it was just on the verge of going up just as I was towing it.
Sean Mudge Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 BOOBY TRAPPED !!! LOL I spent about 45 minutes restoring and trying to practice picking(tractoring) up an sos fighter and for the life of me the bugger kept blowing up. I thought it was my PTA's, I was also usually boarded shortly after, was this part of thier plan? Can they transport from their fighter into my ship as inturders? I assumed it was only capital ships that could do that.... sob's.. great AI by the way.

It's that danged something that will haul you in for a beating every time.
Soback Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 Yeah, if there's a fighter in the region, usually there's a clocked ship in the region, and if it's cloaked then that means 2 things, it's big, and it's mean. So you have 3 choices, (a) you hang around the region and see if the ship uncloackes, ( you shoot up the fighter, but only bad enough so that he heads for it's mothership, © you hit your engines and get out of there unless you want to face an AI that is smart and big enough to cloak itself.
Soback Posted December 13, 2001 Report Posted December 13, 2001 Sometimes when I jump into a region I see like 5 contacts on the radar. As soon as I appear some of the contacts cloack and some just stop fighting and fly straight for the gate out of the region. I fly a big mean stormcarrier, and once you outfit it to the max and get e.p. under your belt I noticed that AI behavior changes and they actually start running from you. It gets me laughing everytime.
