Recently, I've followed an excellent tip and have been sweeping up cargo after run-ins with hostiles and selling the stuff. It didn't occur to me to check if the container had illegals, so guess what happened when I docked at station to sell my latest pickings? Some nit-picky customs official smacks me with a violation!

So, I'm wondering that if with sufficient passage of time without further violations, the number of violations on your record is reduced. Like points on your driver's license -- if you have some but don't incur anymore for a year or so, the number goes down. Does this happen? All I recall the manual said was (heavily paraphrasing here) "do bad things, get violations. Get too many, get court-martialed. Chances of being drummed out of the service 50%".

Hm. So long as I'm posting newbie questions, I might as well ask: any thoughts on how to dump illegal cargo inadvertantly picked up? I suppose one place would be a station that trades it smile.gif but barring that, the only thing I can think of doing is to dump it on some desolate moon or planet using transporters or shuttles.

One cargo option is to jettison. From Logistics, choose Cargo. From there, you can select any items that you wish to jettison. There is a button on the lower right to jettison the cargo.

Heck, don't get rid of it. smile.gif You can hide it/them (contraband) in the shuttles and use those to trade.

Just check your cargo bays for illegals first. Best to load them to shuttles and launch said shuttles. I forget if that loophole was left open or not. biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure it's still open. Somewhat recently, I think, I pulled that trick off. biggrin.gif

Violations don't get decreased

Undetectable cargo in shuttles that are launched, is not a loop hole. If you don't dock with the shuttle, how will they know? Where's the loophole? It works as designed.

Seems to me you used to be able to hide contraband in the shuttles even when they were docked with the BC. That was the loophole. And plugged as well.

Contraband on launched shuttles is definitely not a loophole in the game's design. It is a loophole in tactics if you will. The good commander shouldn't even be playing with contraband. wink.gif

My turn at resurrecting an old thread.

Since this thread's info still seems to be true for BCM, I thought this was a good place to ask about violations. I've been playing around in sectors where I'm picking up illegal contraband. I was being careful keeping it out of prying eyes but I finally got caught at Mars station (Starpath?) so I received my first violation. I didn't notice any impact, but I'm wondering if I also received a EP hit (I don't think so) or a financial hit/fine (maybe)?
