MaHuJa Posted March 25, 2001 Report Posted March 25, 2001 As BCM comes out, I thought of being e.g. scientist. However, unlike military, police, raider, trader, etc. there is little to tell me what they actually do. What place do they have in the BC universe?
Delgard Posted April 24, 2001 Report Posted April 24, 2001 Well, to tell you the truth, scientists are just another one of those castes you can in "just for fun." In BCM, if you start off in a non-military career, you start of with a "grant" or bundle of money and then you're off. Specifically however, the scientist is supposed to raise the tech levels of stations and starbases (I believe). However, this may play a more vital role in GCO than in BCM.I hope that answers your question.
Supreme Cmdr Posted April 25, 2001 Report Posted April 25, 2001 Yep. The scientist caste is mostly for exploration and colonization. In GCO, they will be able to do research which allows the colonists and explorers to actually build on planets and in space. In BCM, its fun playing a scientist or diplomat, since you're not likely to get shot at.
Joel Schultz Posted May 1, 2001 Report Posted May 1, 2001 If a scientist or diplomat isn't likely to get shot at, they'd make the perfect recon unit wouldn't they, assuming the side they're spying on doesn't know their affiliations, wouldn't they?It could possibly be a nice lucrative deal, particularly since some organizations may be stingy with the grant money . Besides, aren't good diplomats supposed to poke around a little behind the lines?
Emmett.hendrick Posted May 1, 2001 Report Posted May 1, 2001 I can see the job/order postings nowWanted good pilot to take care of Snoopy diplomat.Pay neg.......Certainly keep the mercs and Indies busy anyway!
Spuzzum Posted May 17, 2001 Report Posted May 17, 2001 What about the paramedic? Would they serve any purpose in BCM either? I'm assuming not... ;-)(Of course, it would be nice to offer to beam aboard someone's ship and heal their crew... but that's not gonna happen by the release date. ;-)I presume that the paramedic would be used to cure planetary diseases and such, as well as to heal paying customers in GCO?
Soback Posted May 17, 2001 Report Posted May 17, 2001 Your assumption is correct, your pressumption is still work in progress.
MaHuJa Posted May 17, 2001 Author Report Posted May 17, 2001 One of the bc3k appendices are supposed to tell more about the different castes, but it doesn't follow the demo. Anywhere I can get it (and possibly the others?)Oh, and I wonder how it would be if we could be of the "HAC" caste I've actually seen them in the BCM demo.
MaHuJa Posted May 17, 2001 Author Report Posted May 17, 2001 Found those files in the bc3k downloads section. Ah... let's see...
