hi,

This is my first post here, and I don't have a question concerning bc3k or bcm....yet.

I just wanted to say a few words to Dr. Smart and his developement team for their incredible persistence in the most awe inspiring product I have ever seen. I have followed all the developements that have transpired over the years with great interest. Please don't mistake me for a sycophantic boot lick, but I have tremendous respect for anyone who sticks to their guns on things that they believe in, especially when it's an idea that has never before been attempted or equalled.

I remember that one of the first games I ever played was elite on the old bbc beeb, and that game blew my mind...and it still does compared to the other sappy nose taffy that was oozing on the market at that time. Never since then have I seen ANY game that even came close to the freedom and complexity of that game (together), don't get me wrong, many games have claimed it, but they all fell short in some way or another. Games like Privateer, Privateer 2, I-War, etc were all good games in their own way, but they lacked the dynamics and non linear replayability of the original Elite or it's followup games (even the much panned First Encounters), and thus left me with a feeling of disappointment and perhaps even a little ripped off. When I first heard about bc3k (from the Strategy Plus magazine...which I still have ) in '92, I almost had to change my shorts, the scope, the realism, the whole idea was exactly what I was looking for. I think it's a bloody shame about what happened, and I personally think it is incredible that you have stuck with it after all that has happened, and I can't applaud you enough for staying with your vision. Your persistence and perfectionism should be rewarded a hell of a lot more than you have been.

I just wanted to say these things (as I'm sure you have already heard much if not all them from others here) because I feel that I have at least a small amount of kinship in the area of persistence and perfectionism in 3d modelling, and my job in general.

I wish you the best and anticipate great things from you. I am practically shaking with anticipation at the release of BCM.

keep up the great work Dr. Smart, it's too bad there aren't enough people like you in any industry, let alone the (for the most part) the woefully disappointing gaming industry.

sincerely,

Lucas
