Dunedan Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 Yeah, I was doing my annual readup of the VCF. I am quite impressed with the amount of work done in five days, and I thank the SC and the 3000AD staff for all there hard work. So as I was saying, I read that you are diabling all of the blood splatter, and was wondering if I could re-enable it once I purchase the game...[ 08-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Guest $iLk Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 Perhaps a patch post-release allowing small amounts of blood, bullet holes in body, etc...
Soback Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 "Perhaps a patch post-release allowing small amounts of blood, bullet holes in body, etc..."LOL, this is like saying, can I cut you? Come on, just a little bit. Oh, Come oooooon.
Real_Lucas Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 oh come on please? pretty please...with sugar on top? it won't be too deep...I promise....just a paper cut. seriously though, I can understand the reasons why the blood is removed (to appeal to a younger audience), but I do so love the blood splatter...it's either, give it to me in a game, or I see what it's like in reality. j/k
Real_Lucas Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 does this mean that when killed an enemy is vaporized? or he just falls down as though he suddenly had a coronary?either way, I really don't care. I'm just really looking forward to this game.is it not possible to bypass the ESRB rating by releasing a subsequent patch that re-enables the blood splatter?just wondering.
Kush Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 Apparently, Germany has some pretty strict laws about blood splatter in games and all that. ("Psst, don't mention the war!")I wouldn't want the SC to do anything that would stop someone from getting the game. But it would be good for those of us who can handle it to be able to enable it post release.
Epsilon 5 Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 What's the rating of Unreal Tournament? I forgot.I want blood! I want mutilated corpses! I want ton of GIBS!
Supreme Cmdr Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 quote:Yeah, I was doing my annual readup of the VCF. I am quite impressed with the amount of work done in five days, What makes you think it was done in five days? Do you know what WIP means? It means Work In Progress. This means that are being worked on, in tandem, parallel etc. Most WIP items rely on other items, which is why they are WIP tagged to being with. Thats how come some items magically are marked as one, when a primary one they rely on, is also done. Those entries in the latest update, have been WIP for about four months or so. Most just weren't enabled because they relied on something else. I don't enable WIP items because it reduces the number of Beta reports. quote:and I thank the SC and the 3000AD staff for all there hard work. Me, you mean? I'm the only one left putting it all together, cleaning up etc. quote:So as I was saying, I read that you are diabling all of the blood splatter, and was wondering if I could re-enable it once I purchase the game...No. Once you get an ESRB rating, you can't go back and alter the game, because that will also alter the ratings. And that will breach the ESRB agreement - and thats where lawyers get to pay for their vacations, new car, new house, liposuction etc. There is NOTHING to discuss. In fact, the game can't be hacked because, I didn't disable it, I REMOVED it. And I will also be removing the textures used for it.You don't need blood in a game in order to enjoy it. While I was only planning minimal use (no limbs falling off etc, something the game does in fact support i.e. DeD), any depiction of blood, no matter the level, gives you an M rating. I don't need the aggravation. In BCM when you shoot someone, they fall over in one of several death animations, and a few seconds later, are vaporized. I'm not even going to model the BMP9's head shot kill. It used to take someone's head, clean off. Thats all gone.[ 08-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Dunedan Posted August 26, 2001 Author Report Posted August 26, 2001 Alright, Thanks SC.. I guess I can live without blood. I understand the situation that you're in with this whole ESRB thing. And it'll still be fun to kill people.. (in the game of course)
Wolferz Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 Laser weapons wouldn't produce blood anyhow. Just a smoking hole .... clean through the corpse.
Guest Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 ...so i suppose we won't get to see intruders (and Resnig ) being depressurised when we stick them in the airlock...

That's no good. Just something about watching carbon based life forms swelling up and bursting....... nevermind.

That would have been sooo cool. Why did you have to go and TEASE us by flaunting the nixed values of the game. My sorrow knows no bounds. I am incomplete. And you wont even PATCH it. *sob*Um, perhaps, though, you could include it with Battlecruiser Tactical Command? Or, um, "leak" the extra goodies? Heck, put it on a CD and charge for it as an official add-on. I'd buy it. C'mon. P-p-pllleeeeaaaasssseee. Oh, pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top. I can't get over what they did to Giants. Alak! Damn the ESRB!!! Damn them!!!!!!!*This dramatised statement of opinion has been brought to you by Scrivener: "More than just manmeat."*[ 08-26-2001: Message edited by: Scrivener ]
Guest $iLk Posted August 26, 2001 Report Posted August 26, 2001 It couldn't be on *official* patch. I'm sure if you were to do your own textures or something you could probably mod the game...
Soback Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 Come on people, what are you all talking about. This game offers so much and you are focusing on some blood splatter or bodies being ripped apart. What have we come to.
Kush Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 LOL Scrivener!I agree. Why the heck did you go and tell me about the head shot animation! Now I know it was there, I'll always wonder what it would have been like. It's your game, you do what you need to do. But I have to say it would have added to the realism of an already very realistic game. Wait a second, you're the only one doing the final stretch of crunch mode? Good lord man! Are you insane? Do you sleep? Do you eat? I'd have left the rest up to some hapless fool and spent the last few days of crunch mode breathing fresh air!
Scrivener Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 Well, I know that if it were MY project, I wouldnt trust it to anyone else either. If you want something done right, you do it yourself. And you don't wait for someone else to screw it up first, either =)But true, I never even expected blood, gore, or head shots until it was brought up just now. But keep in mind, IMHO, GHOUL single handedly made Soldier of Fortune the best FPS ever. If Max Payne had GHOUL... ohhh ho ho ho! I just expect all my games to have GHOUL now. Call me spoiled. I just wish there was some way around the ESRB to get that content/patch/expansion/whatever. I'll be content with BCM nonetheless. I had some other things to say about the ESRB and ratings (Including the idea that noone is going cancel their pre-orders just because a game is rated M - regional issues would be the only concern), but I know whining here = death.... so I wont.Just one last thing: Remember Giants. Its better that theres no blood at all rather than everyone bleeding green. *shudders*
Supreme Cmdr Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 ...I might release it as a post-release patch, at some point in the far future and on some Russian site.
Guest $iLk Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 lol... The Russian Mafia will be bootlegging copies of the "Bloody" Battlecruiser Millennium
Dunedan Posted August 27, 2001 Author Report Posted August 27, 2001 Beautiful!!!, Once again SC.. You are da Man... Sometimes you gotta love the russians, eh
Joel Schultz Posted August 27, 2001 Report Posted August 27, 2001 I just visited ESRB online, and couldn't dig up the "how-to" rating part. They have lots of descriptors that attach to the general rating itself (this helps to explain to the buyer why it got the rating it did). And I can see how a rater could easily do a check-list type thing with descriptors like that. But out of curiosity, after they have a checklist of which descriptors apply, how does this get chugged down into a final rating? Does anyone know if they have a publicly available guide or is that one of their "trade secrets" known only to them and to the parties that contract them to rate a game?
