MyBOOboo33 Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Hello folks,I've been following this message board for over a year now and this is the first time I've ever posted on it so I'm not sure it this where I'm suppose to post this.I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this game and have even bought a brand spanking new system to play it on, so i hope it gets released before my new 'puter becomes obsolete. I have had BC3000AD for some time now, though I have never quite conquered the persistent crashes and lost saves that happen, but have been able to play enough to get a good feel for the game. What I would like to know is, In BCM will we actually be able to fly to the stars themselves. In BC300AD we can go to all the planets, moons, or whatever in a star system but can't go to the star itself. Was just wondering. Be kinda cool to skim the surface of stars or hide in their intense magnetic fields.....you get the picture. And BTW probably won't be able to play enough to actually try and join a fleet since I am attending school and working full time, but if I WAS to consider a fleet, just want everyone to know that Wraith seems the one for me ...You know that sneak in and get out type of stuff..sounds like fun Commander Malcom
Guest Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Cmdr Malcom The structure and form of the galaxy in BCM is similar to BC3K as you can observe from Demo 1 and Demo 2. No travel to the stars - dont worry though - there is so much else to see and do in BCM you will not miss it at all. I assure you![ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: Brandon ]
MyBOOboo33 Posted September 1, 2001 Author Report Posted September 1, 2001 Wow fast response! Well haven't played the demos yet for BCM. New 'puter hasn't arrived yet should be here by wednesday and old system isn't good enough to play it on. But have ordered the CD(have slow connection and it a LARGE download) Commander Malcom
Scrivener Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Well, if there can be gas planets and nebulae, I don't see why there shouldn't be stars in the star systems. I checked the VCF but didn't see anything about stars. Maybe they're too big for the engine to handle? Still, I'd be cool to go flying through a solar flare (A la Voyager). Maybe in a patch, perhaps?
Real_Lucas Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 wouldn't the solar radiation at that range be like a continuous attack on the shields and hull? the point being that if you got within...say... the orbit of mercury, the intense heat from the sun would have melted away the outer hull armour and cause hull breaches all over the ship until eventually it popped like a shaken beer can?....actually that would be cool to see.
Epsilon 5 Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 I'd like to fly to the sun too... would be like flying in a black-hole, but with the effects being much slower.
Real_Lucas Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 well, I would think about how much processor power it would take to handle that kind of scaleable effect. Then again, making a scaleable sphere with animated noise material on it (to show the rolling and boiling surface of a star), would actually not be that tough (I can do that), it would just take up a lot of space...expecially if you decide to go and take a joyride through a solar flare...remember that as has been previously indicated GBSII will have the ability to customize models and missions. what's to stop you from creating a star as a spacestation and creating your own materials?oh boy, I can't wait to play with that. That means that you'll be able to create comets, solar flares, black holes, and other cool anomalies....that is (as SC says) if you (we) take the time to learn it.
Guest Commander Hamblin Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 All I'd like to see, is various differences in the size of the sun, that's all...the sun is going to look a lot bigger at Mercury, than it would at Pluto. But KA allows you to fly to the sun. It's nice to see the shield effects, but the fact it kills off your crew is a bit of a downer.Downer? God, I'm becoming more American with every passing day...
MyBOOboo33 Posted September 3, 2001 Author Report Posted September 3, 2001 Nice to see that I got some response here. I'm no computer expert so don't understand all that scaleable lingo stuff, but if it was possible, just think of cool effects or possiblities, super humungous things like Dyson spheres! If someone does make a script with something like that on it I would like to see it!

Shadow of the Past Posted September 6, 2001 Report Posted September 6, 2001 It's too bad radiation just "kills" your crew... It would be kinda cool to see them all mutate or melt into little green radioactive puddles of goo. The medics would have a field day, and, on a lighter note, you should watch your step when strolling around your ship... But, hey, that's just one of my insane ramblings!
Soback Posted September 6, 2001 Report Posted September 6, 2001 Or mutate into green radioactive garden gnomes.
