But, there is no way to prove it. God I hope that if its true, that they try that stunt again, now that my ISP is involved and has logging turned on.Here is the post from the Usenet thread that got me suspicious. As you can see, that Pigfighter and AG aliases, have access to the forum - which means that they are, in fact, registered. Jag Uar is actually Fabio aka Shirley under another alias. I won't be surprised if he wasn't one of those two as well. But, we'll weed them out soon enough. quote: Path: typhoon.jacksonville.mediaone.net!jxnws01!newsfeed2.skycache.com!newsfeed1.cider .com!Cidera!news.maxwell.syr.edu!newsfeed.stanford.edu!sn-xit-01!sn-post-01!supernews.com!corp.supe rnews.com!not-for-mail From: Nobody Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.space-sim Subject: Re: I Have To Give Up My Personal Info In Order To Play BCM????? Kush Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Okay, I forgot about the faq!!! I'm a loser!!! Thanks for pointing it out to everybody
Fendi Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 By the way I think Akira also lost a post. I saw his name on a thread (can't remember which or when) a few days back. The last message was by a previous poster. It was like the same incident that happened last night.
Supreme Cmdr Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Yeah, something fishy is going on around here.
Charles Lindsey Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Jaguar lost a post in the "Instant MEssengers" thread. He asked if I did it. Of course I did not. Only thing I can think of is that we posted simultaneously and the board chose mine over his. Thought there were buffers for that sort of thing though. I haven't been down in this thread and this is not the same type of thing. You aren't using XP are you?
Fendi Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 quote: Only thing I can think of is that we posted simultaneously and the board chose mine over his I know it's late (here anyways and I can't sleep) but I don't think thats the problem as I've posted the same time as Aramike. This happened when I badgered him about my profile in the fleet database.
Guest Posted October 9, 2001 Report Posted October 9, 2001 lol hacking a UBB... some people have no life They should hack something serious. Like playboy.com or something.
Guest Posted October 9, 2001 Report Posted October 9, 2001 Indeed, I have actually lost 2 posts now, not sure what is going on, the only reason that I asked Charles if he had deleted it, was because he posted RIGHT after I did, so I thought that maybe he thought I "gasp" had said something improper... like that happens.. Anyway, it happened again today, was able to go back in my browser and do it again, and then it posted twice, so I deleted the second one, but the original one I Posted, that I asked Charles about, I saw it, it was there, it HAD posted. Weird, very weird!! [ 10-09-2001: Message edited by: Jaguar ]
Emmett.hendrick Posted October 10, 2001 Report Posted October 10, 2001 I to have lost one or two posts over the last few days didn't bother me much as I just re-posted but I didn't know others were having the same problem.Anyway back on topic, I have had the honor(questionable) to use XP and I found it a good O/S very stable, a bit heavy on system requirements but quite enjoyable to use other than that. I found the compatibility mode worked well and ran a few old games I have including UFO, so I will be getting a copy at release at months end and some extra memory to ensure a trouble free operation.
Supreme Cmdr Posted October 10, 2001 Report Posted October 10, 2001 This happened to me last night. I posted a message and it didn't show up. So, I hit the back button, copied what I'd posted, created a new post - and both posts showed up. Of course, I had to delete one of them.I think its a UBB bug. I hear that v6.1 should be out this week.
Jase Posted October 22, 2001 Report Posted October 22, 2001 For no other reasons than the high system requirements, loss of ISA component support, the registration issues on anything less than an XP Pro site license (6 Components in 6 Mos.??? Including IDE controller, Processor ID #, and RAM amt??? They gotta be kidding!!!) I'd run, not walk away, from getting Win XP.Eye candy is not worth the loss of a couple of hundred MHz and 98 MB of RAM just for the OS to run. For XP to have the high sys reqs like it does, they should have build in voice recognition, ala Dragon Naturally Speaking. Now that someone brought up Linux,... what are the chances of a Linux port of either BC3K 2.09 or BCM to Linux???
Epsilon 5 Posted October 22, 2001 Report Posted October 22, 2001 You know.. I think OS/2 Merlin had voice recognition... that was in the time win3.1 what there...Yeah, I,d like to know about linux, cause on my new comp I'll install a Mandrake Linux / Win98SE dual boot
Soback Posted October 22, 2001 Report Posted October 22, 2001 I think SC said some time way back that BCM will not run on Linux and he is not planning on converting it, or maybe it was Macintosh, or maybe I just dreamed it all up. But seriously, I think he said it won't run on Linux.
Cmdr Nova Posted October 22, 2001 Report Posted October 22, 2001 It was Macintosh. I don't think anyone's mentioned Linux or anything else yet.

Pedro Pablo Laracuente Posted October 22, 2001 Report Posted October 22, 2001 Hehe...... No Linux, no Mac...... Only windows....... No chances for playing BCM or BC3k for those who don't HaVe W.I.N.D.O.W.S.Laracuente out.
Menchise Posted October 25, 2001 Report Posted October 25, 2001 Linux users could try running it through WINE, but it depends greatly on what BCM uses at the system level of Windows. The biggest question mark is whether WINE can emulate the DirectX APIs (damn proprietary standards ).
Jase Posted October 26, 2001 Report Posted October 26, 2001 SC,Are you aware that there are software groups that will port the game to Linux for you (without infringing on your copyright)??? Or is your motivation not to allow that to happen based upon the propriatary nature of the code and not wanting to run the risk that others will get a hold of it???I think there is a strong correlation between fans of your game and those who are either Linux savy or anti-Microsoft enough to be Linux users.
Guest Posted October 26, 2001 Report Posted October 26, 2001 The numbers of Linux users compared to windows is miniscule and if the SC took the time to port to Mac and Linux, he wouldn't have any time to get the rest of what he wants to do going. If you like Linux, but want to play BCM, then do a dual OS machine, Windows for BCM and Linux for whatever you can use on that OS. Not THAT HARD!!A friend of mine has a dual OS machine and it works just fine.
Jase Posted October 26, 2001 Report Posted October 26, 2001 Yeah, but making a duel boot machine is just a pain in the butt. Many games get ported to Linux years after their initial release. C&C is one example. One of the Quake's was ported as well. It's conceivable that after all the new things in the pipeline are done (i.e. GCO, etc.), there will be time to at least supervise a port to the other OS. It may also help pave the way to a port to other platforms such as PS2 (unlikely, more likely some future PS3), Xbox, etc. Sales for those would make the effort worth while.
