JAY Posted November 29, 2001 Report Posted November 29, 2001 Playing the game, and amongst the heated firing, Marines attacking ships etc.my system drops to a crawl of about 5fps! Now is it all the AI that’s involved with each object like ships etc? but what brings my system down so much that normally chugs quake3 and anything else around at a blistering pace. It’s strange, there isn’t a mass of poly counts on the screen, plus its in space! so why does it still crawl.... I have read the FAQ tried the reducing resolution, altering options etc. I have nothing running in the background either. Seems ludicrous really I have to alter anything with the spec I have more than meets the System requirements. (I thought)While when I am not in amidst of combat everything flies... I guess it’s the AI routines/FX etc. Combat in X-tension another space (The only close alternative I can come up with) game never caused any slow down. I am not comparing the two games as such but the situation and arena they are both placed in; In Space, ships/space debris/FX etc. are similar.I know planets are not Bitmaps, so there’s another reason. Perhaps understanding what’s going on behind the scenes in the blackness of space I may understand why my system of what I thought was more than enough crumbles under the strain.Where’s Scotty when you need him!!!!!
Commander Jamont Posted November 29, 2001 Report Posted November 29, 2001 did you try to change the screen resolution see if that helps anything.
Sunanta Posted November 29, 2001 Report Posted November 29, 2001 Not to worry... I hear the next patch (you can get the beta version here) drastically increases performance in that area. I would personally wait until the complete version comes, but if you can't wait, go ahead and grab it.[ 11-29-2001: Message edited by: Sunanta ]
JAY Posted November 29, 2001 Author Report Posted November 29, 2001 Thanks, I will wait to the official patch though.... so is this situation common amongst all other players out there???I know the BCM universe is complicated, and dynamic in its approach...but its seriously making my system sweat, and I hate to have to lower the settings that in the first place make this game what it is, a visual orgy of what space exploration should be like.
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 29, 2001 Report Posted November 29, 2001 With your specs you should not be running above 800x600 in 16 or 32 bit mode (Config setting).Q3 and all those games are graphics pipelined.BCM doesn't have a problem with graphics being the bottleneck. Its *very* heavy on AI - a luxury [AI] that fps (and most games) games don't have.
