Vigilince Posted November 21, 2001 Report Posted November 21, 2001 When will the texture issues be resolved with the Voodoo 5? For example when I get near a planet the texures will corrupt, and when im on foot, the bottom of the screen will appear white and the gun will not show.
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 21, 2001 Report Posted November 21, 2001 Never. Can't fix driver problems. Read the FAQ.
Vigilince Posted November 21, 2001 Author Report Posted November 21, 2001 What I find odd is that the Demo 2 seems to render perfectly without any problems while on foot...

Then is must be because it was developed using DX 8 SDK and not 8.1. As far as we're aware, those two problems have always been in there, since DX 7 (E1 demo). In fact, Andy Mahood who did the review for PC Gamer, has that card and he had the same problems. Are you also getting the White weapon when you fire it, say the ZS10 in fp mode? He did, until he used the commandline option (see the FAQ) to disable the ground plane rendering.I will ask Andrei to see if we can come up with a hack to solve this on those cards, but the chances are *very* slim.

Go on....Go on go on go on go on go on go on GO ON!Sorry, hit 'Father Ted' mode there for a bit. Anyway, a hack for V5 owners would be greatly appreciated.
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 22, 2001 Report Posted November 22, 2001 I'll remind Andrei to look into it. He's good at crazy stuff like that cuz I can't be bothered. So, be nice to him.
DeBoNed Posted November 22, 2001 Report Posted November 22, 2001 Try using WickedGl. It may help. I don't have BCM, but I have WickedGl and it improved the performance of many games; improved the framerate and texture quality. I have a voodoo 5 5500.Pick up the shareware version here:http://www.wicked3d.com/technology/wickedGL.htmWickedGL is an enhanced miniGL support for boards based on 3dfx Voodoo2/3/4/5, and Voodoo Banshee chipsets. Please post if this solves the problem with voodoo 5 cards and BCM.
Gallion Posted November 22, 2001 Report Posted November 22, 2001 WickedGl will NOT do anything for BCM on a voodoo5 v-card.The v5, to include all v-cards based on a 3dFx chipset, is a dead v-card now that 3dFx is history. The easiest way to rectify this is to upgrade the v-card to one that supports Dx8.x Do NOT expect the SC to support an obsolete v-card.TTFN[ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Gallion ]
Vigilince Posted November 23, 2001 Author Report Posted November 23, 2001 I once heard that nVidia was going to release patches for the Voodoo 5 cards...
DeBoNed Posted November 23, 2001 Report Posted November 23, 2001 I heard that too, when 3dfx went under. I'll believe it when I see it. Get a cheap GeForce2 MX400 for now, that is, untill the GeForce3 come down from their prohibitive prices. It has 64 mb ram and is relatively equal to a voodoo 5 5500. It uses an older chipset, that's why it is so cheap. And at least there are drivers being made for the GeForce2.[ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: DeBoNed ]
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 23, 2001 Report Posted November 23, 2001 BCM does not use OpenGL, though I am tempted to have Andrei port the graphics engine from DX to OGL because I am considering a Mac and Linux port of BCM.btw, you can pick up a GF3 Ti 200 for about $100
Vigilince Posted November 23, 2001 Author Report Posted November 23, 2001 If you do add openGL support, will it also be available in a patch?
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 23, 2001 Report Posted November 23, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Vigilince: If you do add openGL support, will it also be available in a patch?Yes
Soback Posted November 23, 2001 Report Posted November 23, 2001 Does BCM use D3D right now? And is openGL better?
Guest Posted November 24, 2001 Report Posted November 24, 2001 btw, you can pick up a GF3 Ti 200 for about $100 --------------------------------------------------Every one that sold on Ebay in the last week went for $150 to $160.I went to the nVidia home page and tried out a little video test they have. The GF3 out performed my V5 by about 500%. Me thinks a gf3 would makes a nice xmass present to me.
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 24, 2001 Report Posted November 24, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Soback: Does BCM use D3D right now? And is openGL better?1. Yes2. It depends on who you ask
LordDavid Posted November 24, 2001 Report Posted November 24, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Soback: And is openGL better? In every game I can think of that has both D3D and OpenGL support, choosing OpenGL over D3D gives me a massive framerate boost. (cough)Tribes2/Halflife(cough)
Soback Posted November 24, 2001 Report Posted November 24, 2001 What about the grpahics quality? Woult things look the same or a different if you look at D3D picture and then the same picture in openGL?
Soback Posted November 24, 2001 Report Posted November 24, 2001 I don't mean like a little different, a little color change here, a little lighting effect there. Is D3D and the same scene in OpenGL a complete makeover?
Vigilince Posted December 5, 2001 Author Report Posted December 5, 2001 Any word on the unsupported hack for the Voodoo 5? Im really hoping to get to play Battlecruiser without the graphical problems.
Soback Posted December 6, 2001 Report Posted December 6, 2001 3DFX third party drivers. Some even claim to support DX8. Use at your own risk. http://www.voodoofiles.com/type.asp?cat_id=1

Vigilince Posted December 7, 2001 Author Report Posted December 7, 2001 The 3rd Party x3dfx patch greatly improved performance on all my games including Battlecruiser. Only problem is it didnt fix the video problems (firstperson planet view with the bottom of the screen, or the planet texture at close range). Derek, any word on a unsupported fix for us Voodoo 5 owners?
