Derek, any word on a unsupported fix for us Voodoo 5 owners? As I've said, we can't fixing driver issues. After looking at it, my conclusion remains the same, it can't be fixed. You might want to try the -ng option to solve the ground plane issue.
Vigilince Posted December 7, 2001 Author Report Posted December 7, 2001 Does anyone know of a way to send this video issue(s) with Battelcruiser to X3dfx?
Soback Posted December 7, 2001 Report Posted December 7, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Vigilince: Does anyone know of a way to send this video issue(s) with Battelcruiser to X3dfx?It's not an issue with BCM. It's an issue with 3dfx being out of business and therefore voodoo cards not having support for DX8.
Põdi Posted December 7, 2001 Report Posted December 7, 2001 quote: You might want to try the -ng option to solve the ground plane issue. That solves the problem for me. Did find some other issues in the marine training scenarios, but won't report them till I've investigated further (ie not in -ng mode, which isn't supported, I know).
GREG MILLER Posted December 7, 2001 Report Posted December 7, 2001 I don't know if any of you know this, but 3dfx, did not include support for AGP Textures in any of its products. This, plus nonexistant driver support, may be why some newer games are having graphical proplems with Voodoo cards.
Gallion Posted December 7, 2001 Report Posted December 7, 2001 quote:...Did find some other issues in the marine training scenarios, ...The fix is very simple - get rid of the v5 and get a v-card with drivers that support Dx8.1 TTFN

I'm happy the way it plays at the moment thank you very much.

Where you got 300mph is one for the history books. I can't wait to delete that report as soon as I see it. Please post it soon.

Didn't happen all the time. Not sure if 300mph was correct, in fact he was accelerating and I only glanced at the speed. But he was out of the base and long gone in a matter of seconds. Might actually come in useful......

Vigilince Posted December 9, 2001 Author Report Posted December 9, 2001 I seemed to have solved the Voodoo 5 issues while on the planet, all graphic problems appear to be gone. In order to fix the problems, add these to your shortcut of your exe file for Battlcruiser... -ng -nm -nd1 -nd2 Only thing that remains is the planet texture problem in space...

To think I actually added those in the VCF. As for the planet texture, you can't fix it because it is a z-buffer precision problem on those drivers. Can't be fixed.
Vigilince Posted December 9, 2001 Author Report Posted December 9, 2001 ah, but this where your wrong... -ng got rid of the polygon problem... but there was still the problem with the terran flickering... and the odd discoloration on the bottom of the screen. Adding in these command lines -ng -nm -nd1 -nd2 will get rid of all graphical problems on the surface including the texture glitches.
DeBoNed Posted December 16, 2001 Report Posted December 16, 2001 Supreme Cmdr is right, the planet texture is not fixable, short of writing a third party directx8.1 compatible driver for the voodoo cards, if that is possible. Most of the other glitches were fixed though, good job. I still see that odd band of "smarties" in space.[ 12-15-2001: Message edited by: DeBoNed ]

Can't be fixed.Well, I have a 5500, and am obviously having an issue with the planet/moon textures. Many Z-buffer errors can usually be fixed by using a W-buffer.. Would it be possible for you to compile a test patch with W-buffering? shoudn't be too much work. By running the W-buffer sample that comes with the DX SDK on a v5 5500, you will notice that, in fullscreen mode 1024x768, there are big-time Z-buffer issues, which are fixed by switching to a W-buffer.. TIA, Jam

I spoke with him at length about this problem) can solve the problem (we agree that it is in the driver), please don't waste my time.I'm glad you think the V5 so advanced. In other parts of the world, it is old, an antique, not next-gen and not even supported by a wide variety of next-gen 3D games for the same reason: drivers are buggy and no longer updated. The games you mention are just as old as the card itself and do not render worlds the size of those in BCM.Besides, I'm not sure why the planetary texture map bothers you. Its not like you are sitting there staring at the planet, are you? All other issues can be resolved using the recommended drivers and the command line settings mentioned in the FAQ.[ 01-23-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Jammer Posted January 23, 2002 Report Posted January 23, 2002 Hey now.. Make no mistake about it, I do not doubt that there is no other "game" that even comes close to the sheer size of BMC, both in terms of scope and objects.. furthermore, I am not dissing you, the game, or anyone else involved, I truly respect this sim.. and I am not saying that you or anyone else besides 3dfx are at fault for the z issues, and I have no reason to waste your time, or mine, with the "you don't know what you're talking about" issue. As far as next-gen 3d games go, I coudn't care less.. I'd play a dos game that has good game play, dynamic style, over some kiddy 3d shooter with amazing graphics any day. What I love about BCM, and BC3K before it, is the GAMEPLAY. It is the most advanced technology in any space sim to date.. and the same thing can be said regarding Falcon 4 or Grand Prix Legends.. just look at their respective communities.. there are more gfx addons being made for one of the sims I mentioned, than any other sim combined, so I'm not worried about them being "antiquated".Bottom line, there is no "next-gen" graphics card that can make the sims I respect (including BCM), look any better, with maybe the exception of IL-2, but one game doesn't warrant buying a geforce3, since I'm not into useless features. Just thought I'd bring up a minor gfx issue that I had hoped could have been solved.. if not, so be it.. please do carry on with your great work Derek.Regards,Jam.[ 01-23-2002: Message edited by: Jammer ]

You are required to have a video card that is DIRECTX 8 COMPLIANT. The V5 is not.
