I took my violon, non-edited, non-hacked, non-playmodded, and went on a station capturing spree last night. I love cloaking devices. I took down every hostile base in terran, credian, and Gammulan space, including one neutral that I accidently hacked off by grazing it while shooting at a gammulan that was fleeing to it.

This morning I played around with ground ops. I transported marines planetside to destroy AA batteries, pulled them out when it got hot from hostile marines, then flew down personally in a fighter and blew away the hostile marines and landing pads... What a blast!!

Next step is to land in an ATV and blast the rest of the base into component atoms.

And the greatest accomplishment today is .....

I have my system profile correct in my sig!

--and you thought I would never figgure it out

I'm not dim.. Just lazy

Sir John, you are my hero, my inspiration

In all seriousness, I have been roleplaying a Ter/Mil newbie commander who is responsible for capturing all hostile space stations and destroying all hostile ODSs in Terran space. I think I am almost done (and have gotten fleet command in doing so ). Being the newbie that I am, I did destroy a couple rather than capture, whoops. But I'll go back to those later after they rebuild.

Well, it took long enough to get my ship to have the equipment to do it. I've been mining Actis IV with that ship profile for a couple of days to get the funds to upgrade my ship, buy the iridium and missiles, etc. Patience pays off.

Its not so hard if you wait until you can afford all the upgrades

Oh... and have you learned the trick of jumping to the supply station instead of to the star-station? When you come out of hyper you're right on top of the starstation. If you jump at the star station directly you stop something like 70km away.

Hmmm, never tried that. I always HJ to the star station and I think I usually come out of it around 50 km away but I'm not sure. I always cloak before jumping anyway, so I have never been lit up by the station with this approach. I have had good luck, coming out of these encounters relatively unscathed but that might be more to do with the fact that I am in friendly space (Terran) for the most part. I'm going to upgrade my CC more, before I venture into more hostile space.

EDIT: Actually, I should also say that I always take out any hostile ODS (if present) before tackling the station.

Hrrmmm...

I've never had trouble from ods systems. Am I just exreamly lucky? I've flown right up to them and shot them until they exploded. No problems.

I've captured starstations with the ods close by--I mean, I can't jump to it because of its proximity. Ods systems seem to just be orbiting space debris in my game. I've always though of them as a sort of window dressing for the solar system. Maybe I've been playing with rattlesnakes and just haven't been bit yet.

No, I never had problems in space with ODSs. I believe they are there to protect the planet's atmosphere that they are orbiting. They are not there to engage in space bound units. I take them out for roleplaying purposes. They are a red dot on my tacscan and must be eliminated! Dammit!

Just for fun, launch and fly to a hostile ODS and get in front of it, it SHOULD fire and do a whole lota hurting. I think it's like 1500 or 1800 per hit.

on another note try doing a coordinated attach, put about 5 marines in the transporter and load the rest into shuttles and OC's then find a hostile base and set up your waypoints for the figters on CAS and the shuttles to deploy the troops and give them SAD or suppress enemy air defenses orders. sit back and enjoy. and when it gets a little hot transport the reinforcements down using hte transporters. and when you are finished, just OTS the place
