Guest Davewave Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 to DS: I have bought every game in the BC series including the one im playing now, UC. This game's unlimited scope as you say is limited only by your imagination. However, in my case, its limited by my imagination and the countless CTD's im experiencing. Now, before you tell me to go post in the Tech or tell me that my system specs dont meet up to compatability requirements, Im telling you that they do and that this game has so many bugs I find myself staring at my desktop thinking "whats changed since BC3000AD version 1.0", and the answer i come up with is "nothing". Now I dont bag games normally, specially when Im a fan, but I really wanted to get into UC this time around, being the last release in the BC series on PC and all, and so Im playing the first Campaign level and i take out 3 carries and withing 5 seconds i get 3 medals (GO FIGURE). But the crash comes when I am enroute to LV103, and after 3 jumps, bang, CTD! Anyone else out there who thinks this is buggy? PS to Derek, Im a programmer in gaming too, and I appreciate the scope and magnitude of such a program, but that also gives me (being a fellow programmer) the ability to judge and to see that the foundations of this game were rushed and that a supposed "new" interface was thrown over the top to convince consumers that what they were buying was new, late and great. PSS- I have the latest patches and Rc etc etc, latest windows and NVIDIA drivers blah blah blah, so you cant catch me on the Tech Issues, no virus scanners, no firewalls nothing, just pure Win2K running UC on a sweet AMD 2800XP with 512MB ram 433MHZ bus and a 120GB harddrive with about 30GB free.

If this is true then you might try reducing it to the default values for a AMD 2800XP, 400 FSB (200MHz*2) or 333 FSB (166MHz*2) depending on which version of the chip you have.

Have almost identical system, except I have WinXP, and no problems.
Guest Davewave Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 My RAM is set to 400mhz anyway even though my mother board can take 433. Oh and to those popcorn eaters " " who havent got anything to say, please make a comment about my initial post, your silence is not making itself heard. quote: Have almost identical system, except I have WinXP, and no problems. Yeah, even Battlecruiser Millenium was more stable than UC and I haven't changed a single setting since instaling this game, and Ive patched it up all nicely and properly. Im a pro at this stuff, its my day job and my hobby, So Id like to think that perhaps there is a remote possibility that somehow UC just crashes when running on perhaps a particular Motherboard (Mine: Asus a78nx delux). Short of reinstalling(and finding out it doesn't work again), is there pehaps someone out there who has been able to play the game 10 minutes straight without CTD. At times it will, then there are times like last nite, I got 25000 XP in like 5 minutes, going well then BANG CTD no save.. Oh, and here's time to post a complaint about a bug that NO ONE talks about, its been present since BCM (evidence of no work on the backend again): Navitron computer has the crappiest scrolling mechanism via the left click of the mouse Ive ever seen. Furthermore, when you click a planet it will set your destination to a totally different place. Now, as i mentioned, im a programmer, and this kind of bug is the easiest piece of code to fix. -Yet another example of BC3000AD cutting corners, and costs-
Guest Davewave Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Youd think after a major revision such as UC Ver 2.0.11, things would start to work... Does this game properly support Sound Blaster Audigy cards?
JimmyNeutron Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 quote:Originally posted by Davewave: Oh and to those popcorn eaters " " who havent got anything to say, please make a comment about my initial post, your silence is not making itself heard. Popcorn eaters are waiting on SC to either respond to, or delete this rubbish (personally i feel it should be deleted, but hey, just an opinion). I play for hours on end and when I need to do something else I set my ship to low power mode and let it run. Current game has been going for 4 days non-stop now. What you said about 25k XP in 5 mins seems like corrupt install or incorrect patch. I can tell you from personal experience, if you don't do the patching in the exact way that SC says it screws up alot of, seemingly unrelated systems. If patched correctly then dunno what to say.
Kalshion Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I'm not SC, but I preatty much know what he is going to say.. so I'll say it (although I could very well be wrong) quote: Yeah, even Battlecruiser Millenium was more stable than UC and I haven't changed a single setting since instaling this game, and Ive patched it up all nicely and properly. If it wasn't then SC would've fixed it along time ago, and if it IS a bug then it's a minor inconvince, you don't see anyone else complaining about it do you? quote: Short of reinstalling(and finding out it doesn't work again), is there pehaps someone out there who has been able to play the game 10 minutes straight without CTD.Yep, me and everyone else. You're point? quote: PS to Derek, Im a programmer in gaming too, and I appreciate the scope and magnitude of such a program, but that also gives me (being a fellow programmer) the ability to judge and to see that the foundations of this game were rushed and that a supposed "new" interface was thrown over the top to convince consumers that what they were buying was new, late and great. Are you TRYING to get banned from this forum and possibly from the site to? SC doesn't RUSH his game's, unlike a certain company that I know of that i won't mension here. SC has spent a lot of time on UC and even ASKED the community once if he should release the game, preatty much everyone said "Work on it more and release when you feel ready", that was preatty much the consense It seem's obvious you never searched the forum for you're asnwers.. please do so next time I'd quote everyone else you've said, but everything else is preatty much RUBBISH

About the : Those of us on this board have a simple rule never respond to posts of those that have not setup their accounts properly IE System profile and/or that are antagonistic. Also, this is a tech issue and should be posted there not here. I know I'm breaking this rule but I just can't help myself this time. You mention you have the latest NVIDIA drivers but nowhere do I see you mention what Nvidia card you have (the reason why we setup and post our system configuration so the tech people can isolate the problem). Secondly, if you did a search of the board, look at the top right of your IE screen you will see a menu my profile login | register | search | faq | forum home you would have found some info that might have been of help before you made your post I set the navitron toward LV103 and engage the auto pilot. I ready 5 marines for combat and sit back and watch the show. As I approach the hyperspace gate at Kruger in the Omega Centauri system the CTD happens. and here is the respose to this from SC You're sure you're not running the 1.00.02 patch with a 1.00.01 saved game? Are you loading a saved game from a previous version? BTW: I have an Audigy Platinum and UC works fine with it. [ 06-21-2004, 02:51 AM: Message edited by: LostInSpace ]

Guest Davewave Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Well, for those who want to rubbish this problem, Destructive critism like that aint helping. And no, I installed the game, Then patched to 2.0 then patched to 2.0.11, all following SC instructions. Now, I love this game, but when it doesnt work, wouldn't you be upset. Yes, Id love to play this game 4 days in a row without feeling worried that it will crash on me. Im at the stage where I need to save every so often , It shouldn' be like that. Yes there are others but they dont complain coz they cant be stuffed. And removing me from this board won't stop the fact that these errors occur and if anyone , including SC, should care, then these issues should be looked at. God help them for their future releases.
Thomas Siemens Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Davewave, did you read my PM about adding your system profile to your forum signature? Topic closed until further notice!
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Dave, when a thread you create is deleted or closed, if you create a new one, it is a sure fine way to be banned. That said, I have deleted your other thread which contained this. quote:Originally posted by Davewave: I have added my system stats to Signature, apologies to those who died in the process. Thanx to DS bringing the best game of the two milleniums (99 to 2004). Thanks to DS for making Multiplayer working. I love this game so much, Im willing to risk a clean install of my 120GB harddrive just to get this game working. Please check to see if perhaps my stats arent compatible. Oh, And to anyone in the ICV fleet, HI!As for this thread, my first impulse was to delete it, but I'm not going to. Since an admin/mod closed it, I will once again close it. Let this thread be, yet another fine example of the crap I have to put up with. Now, do yourself a favor and get the hell off my site. You come to MY house, disrespect me, post a littany of rubbish and then think an apology is going to cut it? There is a tech support address in the game manual. Use it. Your priviledge of posting here, is hereby revoked. For eternity. ps: I traced your stats to your origin. Game programmer, huh? Stay in school,b!tch.
Ditto00 Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 and finally That guy must have had the brains of Resnig But then again... That might be too good for him.
reanor Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Dave.. .. if game bugging on your system why do you think that game is buggy? There are very few people who experiencing ANY problems after correctly insalling and patching the game (unless there is a hardware problem). I understand your are being dissapointed but believe me there is tons of information in Tech forum and all "bugs" and problems have been listed many times before you and SC already fixed all possible bugs. Right now game is in perfect condition. If it crashes sometimes it can be just a problem with your computer. You might be running too high graphics settings, and your power supply just throwing you to the DT. Or many other hardware problems. You SHOULD go to the tech forum if your experiencing problems playing the game. You SHOULD properly register before you post anywhere on 3000AD forums. Those are the rules, if you disobey continuesly you will be banned most certainly. And for the future if you will keep having problems with the game (gameplay problems or any others) you HAVE to check appropriate forum first, then think what you could have done wrong, then check forum once again putting your problem in different term and if it still won't work then you have to read manual, Game Appendix, play the game with TUTORIAL which is placed in second thread from the top and after you do this... and then 85% of your doubts and problems will dissapear. This is a game of a BIG scope even if you put some sarcasm in it, but it really IS. Small games require small manuals and tiny tutorials. This game tutorial will keep you in front of the computer for at least 4 hours and even then you won't learn game 100%. That's why Appendix and Manual exist and all other documents which you can read in PDF and DOC formats in game folder. My 2 cents...
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Too bad he can't read ANY of that. He's on a site wide ban and can't access any part of the 3000ad.com domain.
Cc Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 That's interesting, I thought this thread was blocked. Well, my only idea is to try what the FAQ suggested, and go to DXDIAG and knock down the sound accleration a notch or two.Worth a try,and I believe there is another post on the forum with a similar complaint, in which case this helped. Edit: just saw the above post.Wow, cant even read posts.

Anyway, the person smelt like an insurgent anyway. If you notice, he didn't even respond properly to my post about what Nvidia video card he has or even what version save game he's using. "Well, for those who want to rubbish this problem, Destructive critism like that aint helping. " Destructive critism? Where? Did I miss something. I know he's directing that response at KALSHION (which I thought was more informative and a warning than destructive) and I thought I helped him out apparently not I guess. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Game programmer, huh? First off, most "barbarians" have "potato salad for brains" (credit goes to another post somewhere in these forums). As for those that do have a small neuron or two, there is rarely anyone that can teach them how to use those neurons, usually because they lack it themselves.
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 An example of a pretty senseless and inconsequential rant by someone who has been sniffing battery acid for too long. It was so silly, I didn't even respond; because of the spirit in which it was written. The point I'm making is that it is all about respect and courtesy. There are several rants, malcontent (about the game, me, George Bush, those Taliban and Al Qaeda b*stards, those govt. communist tits in China, etc) but they are still here and nobody was up in arms on them. But no; these b*stards are just rude, have no respect whatsover and just think that because this is the net, its their goddamn backyard to do as they please. Stupid tits.
