Supreme Cmdr Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 After extensive research into this problem, this post appears to be incorrect wrt this issue cropping up in the patches. I installed several GF4 Ti boards on three test machines and have the same problem related to clouds. Even with the release build. So, as I suspected, this has nothing to do with the graphics engine - nor the shader - because right out of the box, the retail version has the same problem as the recent patches. I have now contacted nVidia to figure out what the problem is, because this seems to happen only on GF4 boards, as the FX boards remain unaffected. Until then, if you have this problem (the clouds are Black etc), go to OPTIONS and turn off the cloud plane. And its not just the clouds, even the sky blending does not work correctly on nVidia boards. It looks just fine on ATI boards. Farten Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Sorry if this reply is a little late... ...but I see you said ".. this seems to happen only on GF4 boards ..." I have a GF3 ... and the sky looks identical to the last image linked to. Don't know if that helps, but I thought I'd mention it.
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 15, 2004 Author Report Posted March 15, 2004 Be advised. nVidia have confirmed a bug in ALL drivers since the 53.03 release and which affects fogging on their FX cards. So, if you have one of these cards and you are on a planet in UC, there will be over fogging. There is NO way around it until they release a driver fix. So, if you have an FX card, stick with the 53.03 drivers and nothing higher - if you plan on playing on the planet.
Supreme Cmdr Posted April 3, 2004 Author Report Posted April 3, 2004 I got the 60.42 dev drivers (they are not yet ready for public release and am not allowed to release them) from nVidia and which do fix the following UC issues. The fog issues on GeForceFX (seen with the 56.xx drivers)The sky/horizon blending issue on GeForce4/GeForceFX (seen with the 53.03 drivers). Hopefully these will be released soon. Supreme Cmdr Posted April 5, 2004 Author Report Posted April 5, 2004 These drivers do not fix the Black clouds problem on the GF4 boards. So, until they release fixed drivers, go into OPTIONS and turn off clouds.
Mordax Blyrr Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 SC, I am using an ASUS GF4 Ti4200 board and have no problems with UC's graphics whatsoever, not with ASUS graphics drivers, nor with NVIDIA's reference drivers, so this apparently is not related to driver issues only, but a combo problem. Thought I should add this comment for others, though I am not sure what relevance it has! People with such a problem are not helped in any way by my comment, BUT: maybe it does add to a more positive morale, which is good! Hope makes living.... err... we're getting a little carried away here, so I'll shut up!
thetaops Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 You know, this explains alot. Hehe, I have GF4Ti4200, and I think I rememeber the world seeming kinda dark but I didn't know why. Hehe, this explains it, it wasn't SUPPOSED to be dark .
Supreme Cmdr Posted May 3, 2004 Author Report Posted May 3, 2004 For the FX cards, you can find the 60.x drivers over on guru3d.com. They still haven't fixed it on the GF4 cards.
almostpilot Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Just for information. I try to use the last driver from guru3d.com page for nvidia FX, 60.x (i have FX5200). When the game starts, i can see the intro movie (3000AD Logo) but after this, my monitor "sleep" and i receive the message in screen (MOnitor message): "Out of synchronism". The game not runs (My monitor is sansung). It┬┤s just the same message when the monitor cable is not attached. I try to use the last driver from nvidia.com 56.x and the game runs, but when i go to the planet surface (the entire vegetation are "white" just like an "ice". The color sky too). I back to my old nvidia driver 53.x and the game runs fine. I can only think that nvidia don┬┤t fix the problem yet.
Supreme Cmdr Posted May 10, 2004 Author Report Posted May 10, 2004 When were you planning on updating the driver info in your profile? Also, nVidia released the 61.12 drivers to devs on Friday. Maybe its on Guru.3d already.

And i already try to use this new version driver (61.x) and had the same problem told before : "Out of synchronism".
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 10, 2004 Author Report Posted June 10, 2004 This was so funny, I had to post it here. And this ranks up there with my all time favorites Ah, the life and times of a tech support geek.
Mordax Blyrr Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 almost pilot, this is not a problem in the driver sets, but it is a problem of the refresh rate being set by the graphics card and your monitor not being able to handle them. I had the same problem when upgrading my vid card drivers. To get rid of this you will have to enter your advanced display properties (e.g. rightclick anywhere on your desktop as long as you're not right clicking on any icons! ;P then go to the 'settings' tab, then press the 'advanced' button). Then choose the FX5200 tab to enter NVIdia's control panel (or similar if you're not using ref drivers) and select 'refresh rate (...)'. Here make sure it's set to the 'override' option and then enter for each resolution the refresh rate you want the card to be using so that your monitor can handle them. Hope I am clear enough cause I have to translate the options from dutch.
