Bobcat Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Thought it would be interesting to start a thread that covers the different ways that people play the game and along the way tips and ideas will reveal themselves. I'm going to concentrate on the in space portion of the game in roam mode. Firstly the thing I really love about the Battlecruiser games is the fact that you never know whats going to happen next. So the first thing I do when starting a new game and leaving the station for the first time is maximise my shields and ready all weapon systems just in case!!! Then get all marines prepped for combat again just in case!!! you never know when those pesky intruders will beam aboard. Next step get at least one shuttle manned I normally use a high AI marine for this. Once the above is complete and everybody is in position the game really begins. Now's the time to check Tacops and assess the regions current situation ask the following questions: Are there any hostiles? If so what type of craft and how many? How far from current position? Likely target? It's useful to use the Hold button on the Tacops menu to carry out the assessment. If hostiles are in the area it's time to get your fighters ready for deployment. The best method i've found is to have high dogfighting ability as pilots and high bombing accuracy as co-pilots. Also when deployed to start with keep them close to your CC there's nothing worse than fighters whizzing off across the region trying to take on two Stormcarriers and there complement of fighters. One thing to be aware of if carrying out a military career you must protect any friendlies if you fail you will lose experience points and this can take you well into the minus figures. One trick I found which is quite effective if an enemy ship is attacking an important asset is to send fighters on attack orders with covering wingmen. Whilst doing this target the enemy craft and keep an eye on it's target when it changes to your fighter craft let them battle for a short while then give an escort CC order. The fighter craft will begin to hyperspace to your location and hopefully the enemy craft will follow straight into the jaws of death Once the battle is over and the zone is clear send a shuttle on cargosweep orders to clear the area of cargo pods and deliver any disabled ships to the local station. Just one final point I found out last night that's it is possible to make a train of tractor beamed craft. The situation my fighter was dead in the water due to all crew deceased floating around Neptune so I sent a shuttle to rescue it and just at that moment the klaxon went and two enemy Starfighters made a beeline for my downed fighter it was too late to stop the shuttle so I just hoped for the best. I kept checking the shuttle and found that its integrity was 23 and the pilot was dead but unbeknownst to me it had managed to tractor the fighter so I went in to clean up the Starfighters and sent a shuttle to recover the now disabled first shuttle. I then gave orders to jump to earth. After the battle I myself jumped to earth and was amazed to see a shuttle pulling a shuttle pulling a fighter. This game never fails to amaze me. Well managed to get everything back on board and limped to Galcom for repairs. Hope this helps people out and gives some idea of the different ways to play. Thanks for reading sorry about the long post.
Chaoticmass Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 So far I've spent a lot of time doing massive strikes on raider bases on earth. I fly down stealthily in a shuttle a few kilometers from the target base, get out, and begin setting waypoints for my fighters, shuttles, and ground vehicles. I watch from my vantage point as strike begins according to plan. First the fighters come in. The base wakes up as it goes to full alert and launches fighters in defense. While the scene starts to look like an angry bee's nest, my shuttles arrive. Amidst all the commotion, they slip in, deploy thier ground vehicles, and dust off mostly unnoticed and unscathed. By the time my marines and ground forces take out most of the air defense, the fighter crafts are mostly out of missiles-- now dogfighting with the remaining enemy fighters, and looking a little ragged. I order my CC to follow the waypoints I set. Within a few moments, the magnificent Firestorm enters the atmosphere in a menacing fiery bravado. I recall the four fighters, while my CC riegns immolating death upon the enemy with it's PTA system. I hop in my shuttle and return to my CC, as the swarm of enemy fighters begin to converge on my CC. Once inside, I order the FC pilots into FCs 5 thru 8. I launch the fighters with Defend CC orders. It doesn't take long for my renewed fighters to take out the remaining enemy fighters. While they do this, I'm organizing an attack force of marines. When they're ready, we pile into a shuttle and I fly it down to the remaining enemy barraks. We hop out and begind assault on the enemy marines, holding our position close to the shuttle. I use the shuttle for cover. Marines keep spilling out of the barraks like a spigot. Just as I was about to retreat, my CC's PTA turrets focused in on the barraks, and soon turned it into rubble! Still, I'm badly injured, and I'm sure my marines are too, so we retreat into the shuttle and RTB. Then I look at my watch and it's 3am, and I have work in the morning. So I save the game and go to bed!
