LordDavid Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 10 out of 10. Best movie this summer with perhaps the exception of the Matrix! It has great humor combined with plenty of action. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is excellent in this!

Scrivener Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 And now for a cynical opinion from the guy who hates everything: The quick hit is that Pirates dosn't suck. I've really been looking forward to this movie for some time. The fact that I don't feel too dissapointed means that 99% of the population will love it. If that's good enough for you, stop reading now. At some point Pirate's script was obviously meant for an animated film. It stunk all over of Disney cartoon, complete with comic duo cliche and initially tumultuous but always reconciled romance. This fact gives the movie a very confused feel, there were obviously multiple revisions to the script by writers with very different takes on the subject matter. Blood, whores, and merciless massacre is haphazardly combined with your traditional comic relief - goofy undead pirates whose eyeballs keep falling out of their rotting heads (think Rasputin from Anastasia). In conclusion, PotC isn't quite sure if it wants to appeal to the kiddies with it's stupid infantile humor, or the adults with its frightening scenes of near-rape, murder, and undeath. When mixed together they ruin what would otherwise have been a fantastic piece of filmaking. Final score: 6/10

Johnny Depp is just absolutely perfect for this role. 2.5hrs and I wasn't bored *once* (Ang Lee, take note, and thanks for ruining Hulk, you bastard!) Gonna go see it again this weekend with the rest of the tribe. 10/10

I mean Pirates of Carribean and it included a free ticket to the movie. You mean the movie is even worth a freebee... WOW

Johnny Depp played his role perfectly. Orlando Bloom kicks ass because he was in LOTR. :-) But seriously, he played his role well. I thought that the story was built up perfectly. Furthermore, the writers really did their homework as the settings, language, and other items of significance were all properly done in their historical context. A very good time.

I agreed on all points. Anyway, I got even with those b*astards who made me go see League Of Gits. I went and saw PoTC again yesterday. I'll probably see it one more time before I start the long wait for the DVD There's a sequel in there somewhere. I can just smell it.

Oh you are one of those that don't stay for the credits. You see they give people that do that easter eggs. Anyway, it's what comes up after the credits . Not all movies do that it's hit or miss with that. Yes, go see it again and this time stay for the 30 min credit listing LOL. I won't say what it is....

I missed most of the previews got there just in time to see the preview of the haunted mansion movie coming out with eddie murphy. Did you stay for the credits?
