Scrivener Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 So does anybody look at this board any more? Oh well. Saw this one twice in a row this morning/afternoon. Every bit as good as the original (IMO best movie of all time) but this time there's a lot less violence and gore and way more character development and storytelling. SC could even see this one =) It's easy to tell that these two films belong together - that they make up one movie and were meant to be seen together. The only thing that bothered me were two action sequences that somehow got dropped from the film at the 11th hour. One involved David Carradine and an intense swordfight in an alleyway. I felt that this film could have used a little booster injection of blood and guts to make the pacing mesh better with the first half, but I know that we'll be getting those scenes on the single-film Limited Edition DVD. This film also has one of the most entertaining fight sequences of all time... even without the decapitations and geysers of blood from Vol 1. PERFECT 9.9/10 - Docked .1 for using the deleted scenes in the TV spots and trailers. I want my deleted scenes, dammit!!!
Supreme Cmdr Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Oh good, cuz I was planning on doing a double header this weekend by watching both this and the Punisher back to back. I bought KB1 on DVD for keep sakes (since I have all QT's movies).
Wolferz Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 I purchased Vol 1 a couple of days ago and I have watched it twice, so far. I can't wait to see Vol 2. IMHO Vol 1 was pure genious in the handling of the loss of blood and limbs by the combatants, with the mix of anime and black and white photography. The best being the eye blink back to color and then the switch to the blue lighting backdrop in the Tea Room scene. I almost died laughing when the last Crazy 88 got sword spanked and sent home to his momma. It brought back memories of childhood. LOL My only beef about Vol 1 would be the short time span of the subtitles and captions. Oh, and thanks alot for whetting my appetite, Scriv
Supreme Cmdr Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Went to see Vol. 2 yesterday. Wow!! Just wow!! Today, I'm going to see if Drammine works, and try and watch Vol 1 on DVD. I liked everything about Vol 2. Carradine shows that he's still got it. Man, this guys plays good/bad in a span of a few frames. Its just amazing how they did that. That fight with Elle and The Brida. Wow!! Best cat fight ever! But then again, I never saw Vol 1. 10/10 quote:This film also has one of the most entertaining fight sequences of all time... even without the decapitations and geysers of blood from Vol 1.I assume you are talking about the Elle vs The Bride cat fight? Also, which fights were dropped and what were they about? The movie seemed pretty cohesive to me, so I can't tell where those would have been inserted.
