Supreme Cmdr Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 I had an absolute blast. I went in not expecting much, but ended up being quite surprised. A LOT of fun, cartoon violence, *AMAZING* specialfx etc. Gonna definitely see this one again 10/10
Guest Hellbinder[CE] Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 I watched it Twice this weekend. Nice clean movie. The one thing that totally *cheesed* the movie out for me... Was... Well. I dont really want to spoil anything. When the Characters are Flying around, falling hundereds of feet. Swinging 500' in the air and living!! Through the whole movie... To me it makes what happens at the end seem really, really, really STUPID. It makes no sense, It does not flow with the rest of the movie at all. I mean please... a 10' flop onto a couch?
Scrivener Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 It's two hours of Hugh Jackman getting thrown the air by various computer-generated monsters. The acting is bad bad bad (especially Dracula's speech about love) , the plot is silly, and there are flying midget baby vampires... what is with that director anyway? Did flying midget baby mummies help Mummy returns? No, Brendan Frasier's quirkiness did. Unlike the silly-campy Mummy movies, Van Helsing is a terrible, terrible film that hurts to watch and dosn't realize how bad it is. At least Punisher had it's saving graces, Helsing just sucks. I know some people thought Van Helsing was "fun"... *cough* Ebert *cough* but poor, amateur, big-budget-CG-fests will never, ever get a passing grade in my class. 1/10 P.S. There's good camp (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Dead Alive) and there's BAD camp (Freddy vs. Jason, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)... Van Helsing is a shining example of BAD camp. Interpret that as you will.
