Guest Shingen Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Here's a little comic relief. Has anyone heard if Clinton and Gore are going to be called to this "hearing"? I mean, Bush was only in office for like 8 months before 9/11, so I really doubt that there could've been very much actual policy change in that amount of time. Charles Lindsey Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 I think I mentioned that on the first page. Or one of the articles did.

Clinton was called to testify, but he would not testify publicly, so he just testified in front of the commitee behind closed doors, and the minutes of that testimony will never be publicized.

I have NO idea where you get your information, but it is a bit dated. We have close to 200 years worth just in the US alone, and if you include all the other oil producing nations, we have enough to last the millenium, and possibly longer. Please, get up to date, my job is not to teach, so you will have to find the info yourself. There is PLENTY of oil, and always has been, all the chicken littles do make me laugh though... Peep Peep Peep Does this shed anymore light on the subject of oil reserves? According to that article, we don't have enough fossil fuel left to worry about global warming. And those guys are just plain nuts, I will believe the geologists that have actually found the reserves, before I will believe a bunch of global warming the sky is falling crazy "scientists". 25 years, yeah, sure thing, more like 8 times that plus some.......

Curious that isn't it. The media has made and is making such a field day over that issue with Bush and his people. Why aren't they sqawking about this issue with Clinton and Gore. Well we all know why, I just felt like pointing that out.
Charles Lindsey Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Bush didn't want to testify at all. Then conceded to an hour, then two, then full testimony. That's the way I remember it. But if Bush wants to go behind closed doors fine. We're seeing more and more stuff but I'm still not gonna lay blame. Shell lied about reserves

Shell lied about reserves Bush had the advantage of claiming executive priviledge if he wanted to, but he gave in to public pressure, and I don't think that he should have. Clinton used that priviledge shamelessly, I think Bush should have stuck to his guns and told them no. This socalled nonpartisan committee has turned into on of the biggest CYA Clinton debacles I have seen in a while. This committee is going to turn into a major laughing stock, because it is not doing anything but proving to the American public that the Democrats are in MAJOR CYA mode right now. It's about as obvious as Hillaries thighs....

Look back on page 1. I already said this is just congress posturing.
Wolferz Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 The emperor IS wearing new clothes, they're called Voterflage. Standard issue for Presidents the past 20 or so years. For some odd reason, I get flashbacks of an old Daffy Duck cartoon where a turkey is begging Daffy to hide him from the hunter. I had the same mental picture as they were dragging Saddam out of his Spider hole. I still say, "they should have hauled his ass to the edge of a busy Baghdad Bazaar and rolled him out of a Hummer at 40 MPH" Could have created a whole new area of forensic science...Shoelistics.

Certainly not the ones working for Shell, I hope There is some hope on the horizon I think. Fuel Cell technology development continues, unless our Oil wealthy overseers choose to stunt it. Kind of like the 1950's when General Motors was first developing the Corvette with a fuel injected motor. Washington put the kibosh on that because it was too fuel efficient and didn't burn "enough" gasoline. Technology that didn't resurface until OPEC started holding the world hostage 30 years later. Fuel cells using non-polluting methanol would certainly take oil out of the Geo-political arena. [ 04-22-2004, 06:54 AM: Message edited by: Wolferz ]
Vixef Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Estimates for the oil reserves changes all the time. In the 70s estimates were something like 20 years for the North sea, and today I think it is around 50 years. If we had used the same extraction-technology as in the 70s, the oil reserves would be almost exhausted by now. So the extraction-technology is probably the main factor for why the oil reserves are getting "bigger". Also the know-how and comprehension of nature has a lot to do with it of course. (In the North sea, when calculating the oil-platforms, they operate with estimated 100 years waves as a calculating value. The first estimate was exceeded several times within a few years. Since then, I think they've changed the estimate 3 or 4 times (or something like that).) We find new oil reserves all the time, plus the smaller oil-reserves havenÔÇÖt been exploited yet ÔÇô simply because itÔÇÖs too expensive for the big oil companies to do so. In my opinion, though, the future is looking bleak. Not because we use oil as petroleum, but because oil is a very important recourse in other products.
