How public education cripples our kids and why

Well, Wolferz, this is one of the reasons I homeschool my kids, and the more I study it, and the more I look into it, the more right YOU become.

Are you now saying that my conspiracy theories have merit?

I learned about the assembly line process of the public school system during my 12 year incarceration in one. My high school looked so much like a prison we started calling it a prison. I was a bit rebellious in my studies. I would constantly run past the curriculum time table, so as to prevent boredom, and more often than not, make the teachers look like blithering fools. It was fun. A select few of my classmates and I were given a special aptitude test during my Freshman year. My results returned a verdict of: "Student is capable of Junior year college studies. It was at that moment that I realized something was seriously amiss because after taking that test. My Counselor was doing nothing to steer me toward higher education. Which is what a Counselors' job is supposed to be. Instead I was forced into mandatory class subjects that I already knew. They gave us only the bare minimum of elective subjects. Just enough to keep us from spilling out of the proverbial mold. Busy work so to speak. I spent many a class hour reading books I had checked out of the school library.

The gentleman in your link is absolutely correct. Public schooling does nothing to create free thinking adults. It only creates mass quantities of under developed worker bees for the Corporate taskmasters.

This also became more evident to me when my son went through the same ringer. He was given an aptitude test in eighth grade. Their test results showed him to have an aptitude toward law enforcement. His Freshman year classes, that he and I had mulled over and picked to be closer to his actual interests, were summarily tossed in the round file. Instead he was "FORCED" into classes designed to steer him toward a career in law enforcement. When I saw his Freshman class schedule I was Fricking LIVID!

After meeting with his Freshman counselor and voicing my displeasure about the literal stab in the back, I came really close to beating the shit out of the man. He tried to make his case by using that stupid test as evidence and he adamantly refused to change the boys' classes. Then he tried the old car salesman tactic. "Let's give the classes a shot, he might like them."

At that point I was seeing red and I told him, "You either straighten this out and give my son the classes he signed up for, or I'll pull him out of here so fast your head will swim. Naturally he began blithering that, "it's the law and you can't do that." crap. I said, "Watch me *******." I pulled my homeschool card. He was still blithering as we walked out of the office. I swear I heard some female snickering coming from some of the other little offices.

As we stepped out of the main doors and headed down the steps, my son couldn't contain himself any longer. He said," Daaaayum Dad." and busted out laughing. I replied," Don't you EVER let corksackers like him tell you what you can and can't do, this is a free country, no matter how many times they try to tell you it isn't!."

The fellow was absolutely correct. Our public education systems are controlled by who?

Damned sure isn't the public now is it?

That, and many other experiences throughout my life, were the reasons that all of the S&B conspiracy Information I have put forth seemed so logical to me. I was already suspicious, I just needed the strings ro tie it all together.

Funny how it all seems to date back to the early 1800's, eh? The New World in America was the apple of some Teutonic Titwillows' eye back then. Fertile soil to sow their ideals in to reap a fortune in money and power.

We need alot more people to see it as scary or we're all screwed. Knowhutahmean?

Bush keeps spouting this "no child left behind" rhetoric because that's what everyone wants to hear. Read bewtween the lines and it comes out,"Every child left behind."

Now comes the hard part. Should teachers gain or lose salary dependant upon the performance of their students?

IMHO: This won't work in any school system where a governmentally controlled educational system dictates curriculum and performance standards.

The overseers don't want free thinking minds out there.

Well, because I'm still serving my 12 years in "school" I must agree with both of you guys and the author of that article. The reason it is so easy to beat down the wills of the kids that come through here is because school is an intentionaly uninteresting and unmotivating environment. School has not changed since the industrial revolution. We still sit in the same stupid desks in alphabetical order. We still get up and recite the pledge of allegiance every single day. We still learn about the same meaningless drivel. The floor is still an off-white tile. The walls are still a bland color. The teachers are still unmovitated and unwilling to teach anything of substance. Instead of changing anything, we are still running through the same conveyor belt that we have been running through for the last 200 years. In such a horrendous environment, it's only a matter of time until the wills' of the "students" break, and they simply accept this process as life. Come, sit down, do your work, go home, repeat.

This process leaves an inherent, insatiable emptiness in our lives. Nothing we can do can make it feel better, so we try and plug up the hole with trinkets, and gadgets, and tvs, and cars, and houses. And thus the American Consumer is born. I have recognized this process long ago, and have since been simply biding my time. And when I get out of school, I'm going to do something crazy with my life to break that cycle, even if only for myself.

Actually I got to disagree just a bit about the school thing

My school, being a technology academy that it is, is not quite the same as everyone else. Our teachers are motivating people, helpful and kind plus they teach the subjects that we need to learn

Wait... did I just say they TEACH the subjects?, yes I did... some of our teachers have been going against the rule's of the School District and have begun teaching us what THEY think WE should know, thanks to them I know more about the outside world than I would've if I had gone into a reguler high school.

Each classroom has the same colored walls... same desk's... but the room's are bigger, we have free seatings (no alpha order.. that was only around for me back in my elementary days *K-8*)

But, what I do wish, is a change in HOW the school's are run.. I don't like how black's or hispanic's can get away with EVERYTHING

For example, if a fight broke out between a white and black, it doesn't matter if the black started it, or the white, the white will ALWAY'S get in trouble no matter what EVEN if the principle SAW the black start the fight

Why? Because all they need to do is file for discrimination and boom, the staff in question will lose his job and be branded a racist all because he was doing his job

That's why I hate the school district... because there playing favorites, and quite frankly it's HARMING our schools... not IMPROVING

At least, that's how it is in THIS school district, I'm unsure about everywhere else *however, from what I'm told it's practicly the same*

Personally, I think schools should just be disbanded. They are an entirely outmoded way of thinking and, worst of all, when you get out of your 12 years of confinement, you still don't know a damn thing about a damn thing in the real world! So, it basically serves you nothing. The ONLY thing that I've gotten any use out of is math and 8th grade english where they actually taught grammar (in high school we just read over-rated shakespeare plays).

Schools should just be replaced with a new system. A proctor and 5-10 students are assigned to him/her and they go around to various locations (whichever the proctor thinks are appropriate) and actually do real world work. I think a lot of people would actually get something out of that.

As much as you might hate the school district and hate school in general, we NEED the school's

Parent's alone can't teach there children without sacrificing something, now parents like Jaguar might be able to pull this off but a lot of people can't, those in the military are a prime example since they lead a military life and are gone about 75% of the time

As much as we might hate schools, we need them more than they need us.

And besides, it's not the school's fault that the child doesn't learn... it's the child's fault, THEY are the one's who make the discission to learn NOT the teachers, NOT the parents, NOT the school district. But them in general, you can't FORCE a child to learn they have to make the choice

So, yes, I am in total disagreement with school disbantion, want me to give more reasons please ask

I can't afford to homeschool, I make barely enough to survive...

I am, as a matter of fact just above the "poverty" level. I could make a LOT more money, if my wife went back to work, she's a banker and could probably make as much if not more then me.

We have made a choice, that choice costs us a lot of the finer things in life, but it will pay dividends for my children, and that is what truly matters.

The schools nowadays, and in the past SUCK, it is NOT the childrens fault, it is NOT the reachers fault, it is the system itself that is the problem.

Parents have come to such an apathetic and dare I say SELFISH, point that at 6 months old they are sending them off to daycare, then at 4 years old, they are sending them off to preschool, then at 5, into the public school to be molded into the properly restrained and idiotic sheep that the state wants.

I will NOT do that to my children, NO MATTER WHAT IT COSTS ME!!! I will not send my children into a system that will do their best to knock out their creativity, ot stifle their competitive spirit, to drug them into capitulation.

I will give up whatever I have to to make sure that my children are mentally fulfilled, and love to learn.

My 8 year old, reads at a 6th grade level, and going up, if she were in Public school they would do their best to slow her down, to bore her, to MOLD her into the other children of her age group.

My daughter, 8 years old, cooked my wife and I fetuccini Alfredo last night for our 11th anniversary, and baked an apple pie from scratch!! It would have done ANY 5 star restaurant proud. Yes, we helped a little bit, but she did 90% of it. Name me one publicly schooled kid that would be able to do that.

My 8 year old can carry on a conversation with an adult, no matter their age, and she can play with Children half her age, without any problems whatsoever. Public schools stick a child in within their own age group, NO MATTER how mature they are, and then dumb them down to the LOWEST student. That is not teaching, that is molding to conformity.

I can't afford to homeschool my kids, but I do it anyway!!

If a childrens education and fulfillment are important to their parents, then those parents can and will homeschool, or at least get involved in the system itself if they can. THe ones that have tried, that I have talked to, ended up yanking their kids out of the school system and homeschooling them.

Apathy and selfishness are paramount in this society, we are good little consumers, and that is what we shall stay until enough of us actually teach our kids to think, instead of sending them off to the indoctrination centers that are laughably called the public school system.

My father, for example, doesn't have the time or money he HAS to work just to make a living. The last time we tried to homeschool here in Nevada we had the school police come knocking at the door.

There are two different types of education now-a-days

Special Education and Reguler Education

SE (or SP), now before anyone start's flaming me on this, I know what I'm talking about since the school system classify's me as needing extra help in my learning (odd.. I am in reguler classes, straight A's, straight E's in citizenship and yet I'm still classified as an SP student)

Anywho, SP is basically for people who can't compete with normal, reguler, smart students.. in other words those who are NOT in the SP branch of learning

Students in SP need extra help to learn, the learning is slowed down so that the student understand.. but in reality, SP is used to gain money from the students in question, each student in the SP branch grants the school in question DOUBLE the amount of a normal student that the school receives

In other words, for example

If a student get's $100 per student, an SP student would bring in $200-400.. why? Cause the school need's to provide extra help to the student

I personaly don't like SP, cause not only are the students dumbed down even FURTHER, but there also treated like children no matter WHAT grade there in.

For example

In elementary school, which was when I was classified as an SP student.. it didn't matter if I was in the 1st grade, or 5th I was still treated like a child... even in my 6th 7th and 8th grade years I was STILL treated no different. It pissed me off cause I was a teenager at the time

Then, I get into high school

My home school gave me my high school class schudle.. EVERYTHING had an SP next to it (special ed)

Now, the school I'm in right now, which is a tech school. I get my class schudle.. NO SP listed ANYWHERE

Why? Cause the school wanted to challenge me and see if I had what it took to get out.. no matter how hard they tried to kill me *in lack of a better word* it still didn't work. I beat the system, and earned the right to be out of that system

But still, even now-a-days, there are students I know that LOVE the program.. why? Cause they don't like learning, they don't like a challenge, and they don't want anything to do with the school's

I can agree with not wanting to be in school, I mean there are time's when I don't want to go to school. But If I don't go then I don't have a future

Judge, I envey you, you're taking a risk.. a risk that I plan on taking once I get married and have children

But, I know for a fact, that unless this "No Child Shall Be Left Behind" Crap is DISBANED complete, our school's will CONTINUE to get worse to the point of no chance of learning. That's why private school's are so full.. and that's why I plan on opening up my own Private School once I get the money and once I get the degrees

All of you are forgeting one thing also: People learn differently and at different rates of speed. This is not taken into consideration in any school system. Everyone must be taught the same and expected to learn at the same pace with that in mind it's either sink or swim. I, myself, am a visual learner. I cannot (and hate) just sitting there listening to some teacher/professor drone on day in and day out about any particular subject. Too bad I was a bit late for this multimedia revolution. I bet you if I was going to school during 90's I'd get all A's and that would be just elementary school. I tell you, I've learned more from the History, Discovery channels (Discovery science, Discovery civiliation etc..) and PBS (for PBS I'm talking about the teacher taping service they offer from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.) and Cuny channel(City university of New York). From programs like Mechanical Universe (physics), World of Chemistry (college edition they also have a high school version), Earth Revealed (college geology) and many many more. I've learned more from watching these programs that I have in all the years of sitting and listening to a teacher.

But alas, in school you are expected to learn the same way as everyone else. Reminds me of that segment Another Brick in the Wall in the Pink Floyd the wall movie. I hope you all know the scene I am referring to. If not, it's an animated part with a teacher grabbing a hand full of kids and putting them into a meat grinder and all coming out the same old shape. All in all were just another brick in the wall.

Then perhaps you may enjoy this thread. I've been biting my tongue in that one (maybe I should post this there instead) but if you're intelligent and don't absorb everything they throw at you like a mindless sponge then I think you will avoid all the pitfalls mentioned.
