Supreme Cmdr Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Well, they actually went and did it. I'm not even sure what to think. What's wrong with RealID How will realID affect you? Schneier on Security and realID
Shadow5731 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Oh man SC...I may be thinking similar, but I'll type it: What are those idiots gonna $@#!@!# think of next eh? Wait, I woulda said make our cash look more like monopoly money, but they been beating me to that for a while now ...still...jeesh, just another way to make things higher priced and easier to fake in the end.
Freyar Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Can the government ever take the hint that things aren't broken at one point?
LostInSpace Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Funny thing is that I can't find one mention on this on any mainstream media sources. Not even on CNN. What's going on with them!? You'd think they'd be all over this like stink on crap. quote:Practically speaking, your driver's license likely will have to be reissued to meet federal standards. I wonder if I/we have to pay for that. I have a 10 year one expires in 2010.
jamotto Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Im sure we will have to pay for the new license. Heck, maybe they will even toss in a few extra fees to cover the additional expenses. Now off to buy stock in any company that manufacture's RFID readers.
Shadow5731 Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Firt it's identification, then comes money alterations, then new laws to cover it all, which starts the vicious cycle all over again. Makes you really wonder where this will all end up...don't it?
Wolferz Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 I'm sure the PNAC is rejoicing over their victory on this one. America a Free country? It hasn't been free since December 7th, 1941. Oh guess what... The National ID has already been shaped by the Dept of Homeland surveillance, errr Security and the pilot project ID's are being issued as we speak, in the form of Commercial Drivers Licenses. Remember my thread on those? Embedded chips and tatoos are next. Mark of the beast anyone? Only $125.00 for the peace of mind of false security. It isn't the terrorists we have to worry about now. Watch America roll over and play stupid, errr dead.
Supreme Cmdr Posted May 13, 2005 Author Report Posted May 13, 2005 My biggest issue with this is that there is seriously NO need for ANY of this. All they had to do was just issue new driver's licenses. In fact, the State of FL is already rolling out new licences, (which have nothing to do with this RealID thing) and will be phasing out the older ones. A valid driver's license is the best form of ID. All they have to do is enforce a new one and give everyone a deadline to get the new one by their next birthday. Same as is done with car tags. Boom. Problem solved. When you go in for the new one, THEN the proposed realID forms of ID can then be required in order to ensure that those being issued licenses are who they say they are and who are entitled to one. Then, anyone who does not comply and is caught with an outdated license, falls under the same penalty as driving with an expired license. Only this time, law enforcement will have the power to validate who you are - on the spot. If you are not legally in the country, then you get carted off to the station and the authorities can take it from there. I mean, seriously, this realID thing is just more bureacratic bullshit and I for one am quite shocked that NONE of the mainstream media - nor the ACLU (as far as I can tell), have made a furor about it. I think I heard Lou Dobbs mention it once - in passing - in his CNN program. But that was it. Being a proponent of tougher immigration rules, I would have expected Lou to make a furor about this since it basically doesn't solve ANYTHING. I mean, terrorists, illegals etc found a way to get INTO the country. They have passports, driver licenses etc. So, I don't see why the govt. thinks that, all of a sudden, realID is going to curb that. Not even by a long shot. All its going to take is one loophole and the whole thing is shot.
LostInSpace Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 I agree SC. Another thing I have issue with this also is the name RealId. It's like they are saying any other ID we have now is not a real ID. After mulling this over, the Federal Government is basically saying to the states "we don't trust your ID system and how you implement it so we are going to take it over and standardize it" and the states are just taking this lying down. I blame the individual states in this for not having the will to fight back and telling the Federal Government to just drop dead.
Wolferz Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 LIS, The States wouldn't dare oppose it since their Federal highway dollars would dry up over night. It's just another halfbaked Patriot game to make some jerk look good to himself, keep closer tabs on the citizens, and add another stream of bureaucratic red tape and money grabbing. I'm sure all of the illegal aliens in this country would love a minimum wage job at the NEW Department of REAL IDs. Why not? It will have Federal benefits. So, they roll it out. What happens next? Law enforcement begins random checkpoints looking for miscreants who have not or can not comply with the regulation and then it's off to jail with them. Probably be charged as terrorists to boot. I think I'll have my private Social Security account invested in prison industries because they are about to have an extreme jump in productivity from all the new slaves that Uncle Bush and crew are going to be sending in. Welcome to Nazi America.
LostInSpace Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: LIS, The States wouldn't dare oppose it since their Federal highway dollars would dry up over night. It's the same tactic the Federal Government is using with that "No Child Left Behind". A few states have brought lawsuits against the federal government over it. I'd say it's time for the Federal Government to get a taste of it's own medicine and every person not send in their Federal Tax! Of course that won't happen either because people in the U.S. have become wimps.
Guest Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 I just want them to ask ONE question. Will this law have prevented a 911, if the answer is no, then toss the bugger. This one is a no brainer, it would NOT have stopped 911, so toss the SOB.... At the same time, there are 9 states that you can get a drivers license, even if you are an illegal alien, Washington state being one of them. Create a Federal law that makes the states use a uniform system to issue drivers licenses, but do NOT create a federal database out of it, and we are all set. BUT, again, this would NOT have prevented 911, those 19 were in the country LEGALLY, and had LEGAL drivers licenses, so this law should never have been passed, and if it had been a separate bill, it wouldn't have, but since the politicos attached it to the Iraqi 82 billion, they HAD to pass it. Bunch of sneaky bastards!!
jamotto Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Bunch of sneaky bastards!!Got to love those Republicans anyways, three years is still plenty of time to repeal this. In fact, the ACLU has already started.
