LostInSpace Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Everyone seems to be overlooking one thing about the Beagle 2 fiasco and that's its orbiter. Not just by us but by the media as well. I've caught on most news channels here how the European's mission is a failure and not one mention of the orbiter. Actually, that mission was only a partial failure and that orbiter is cracked out with scientific insrtuments.Mars Express Orbiter I myself, can't wait to see the scientific data from that.
Guest Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 This is true, the orbiter made it and is doing just fine, not sure why the media is concentrating so hard on the beagle. Someone in there must hate the European space program and wants to see it fail. You are right though, the orbiter is there and doing great, they are going to use it to try and talk to the Beagle and see what happened to it.
Epsilon 5 Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 the media? the MEDIA? You expect media to concentrate on the good things and to forget the bad ones? or basically to stop exagerating? sheesh.

But then again, I don't watch CNN for good or bad news. I watch it for the chics and could care less if they're delivering good or bad news. I just watch. cuz I'm a lemming. Who likes watching cool chics deliver bad news

If your only source of info is the news, you'd never even know there was an orbiter involved. I only found out about it while watching the Discovery Science channel #111 here in NY they were airing a program on sunday titled Mars Live 2004. The last 15 min or so they focused on the ESA Mars Express orbiter. quote:Originally posted by DREADA: but Beagle was on a very small budget They should have taken a lesson from NASA on that budget. Most, if not all, of the failed NASA Mars probes were done on the faster and cheaper motto. That just does not work. The new successful mission was done with a proper high budget. Remember that old saying "You get what you pay for".

Spindoktor Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Why all the doom and gloom over Beagle 2? I thought they had another 4 or 5 chances for the orbiter to link to it? Heh, maybe the Spirit will find it with its high res. camera. USA, USA!
