LostInSpace Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I was watching CBS news and they are claiming victory for the Shame on you segment when they highlighted the way Haitians are portrayed in Vice City. Also from ugings of Mayor Bloomberg here in NYC. Rockstar is now going to remove the haitian issue from vice city from further copies of the game. Of course not everyone is still happy because of the all the copies that are still in stores now. Guess what though, whomever has the original GTA Vice City has a nice little collectible.
Guest $iLk Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I think it's already sold more copies than most other games anyways... big yay for the P.C. people... Rockstar ought not to have caved... I thought the stereotypes were there for a reason...
weegee_101 Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Sigh, when will people be able to take a joke. Currently Vice City is one of the games I've been playing, and this just sort of pisses me off a little. The game is meant to have all the stereotypes in it. God, I hope they don't lighten up San Andreas because of this... I'm really looking forward to that one.

What are they going to do, take everything out of it? If they do that, it's just going to become a Disney game!
Bandus Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I feel stereotyped against because I'm Italian-Irish and I think I just saw a cop slow down and give my house an extra glance as he drove by..... Rockstar shouldn't have caved...sends the wrong message. I'm getting sick of people pissing and moaning about violence in games. Violence in games doesn't cause violence in reality. Parents who are too busy pissing and moaning about problems with society and not paying attention to their children cause violence.

Guest $iLk Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Guns don't kill people... Video Games kill people.

Hmmm, does that mean we have to give up games including UC!?!? I tell you what let's make SC take all the violence and weapons out of UC and just have everyone in the game be nice to each other. OY VEY!!! What a sight that would be.
Epsilon 5 Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 in UC you have no blood, no civillians, you don'T beat people up, etc. UC is aiming for a "T" rating, like every mass market game (although UC is not really a mass market game, but that's beside the point) I'm not even sure you can include blood splatters and still get a T rating these days.
Bandus Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 It frustrates me to no end that people complain about video games. I'm sorry, I've been playing video games over half my life now and I am not a violent person. I've NEVER been in a fist fight. I've fired a gun while hunting and target practicing, never other than that. I've never robbed anyone. I've NEVER participated in a maliciously violent activity. I've NEVER seriously hurt someone. DOOM, Wolfenstein, and all the other FPS games from that time period to the present HAVE NOT trained me to be a cold blooded killer. Grand Theft Auto is a prime example of games that DON'T make you a killer. Things happen in that game that could never happen in reality. Ever. Under any circumstances. It's just sad that people really have nothing better to do than sit around and complain. I mean really, does the "Haitian" community in Miami honestly think that because of GTA:VC someone is going to go there and attempt "genocide" I mean really. Ok, I feel better.

I PERFECTLY AGREE ON EVERY POINT!!! I've played violent games too and like Bandus I've never be in a fist fight (well apart from my karate training.....) or have taken part in a violent action. Still I like violent games right because I can do something that I would never wanna do in the real world. Let those stupid complain how they like and hope no one will begin a political battle on this.....(thanks god I live in Italy.....)
Guest $iLk Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Yeah, in RL I wouldn't be saying "LOL good shot" when someone snaps a head shot on me in Real Life like I do in a game...

Yup, or some mysterious guy crying out in a megaphone "WASTED!" as what happens in GTA1 or getting a Unique Stunt Bonus when mowing down dozens of pedestrians doing a few rolls mowing down some more then rolling down a cliff side and mowing more down at the bottom as in Carmageddon 2. Ah the good ol' days.
LostInSpace Posted December 13, 2003 Author Report Posted December 13, 2003 Manhunt banned in New Zealand ya gotta love it "While it has no problem with men gutting thousands of orcs on film, New Zealand doesn't take too kindly to men killing their fellow men in games."
