Zane_Marlowe Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Oh please no...I do not pay $40-50 per game for game spam.
jamotto Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 Yea, that was what I was thinking. Don't need them. Nothing good will come of this.
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 This has been going on for years in sports games. All those banners, posters etc you see flashing by as you race at 200 mph, are paid for by those sponsors. If they paid me enough, I'd be more than happy to be a sell-out whore! In fact, there is a company setup to specifically sell stuff like this and they spam my email on every now and then.
DennyMala Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I can imagine the GALCOM HQ painted with the colours of the sponsor....LOL!! .... and changin' every month due to the best bidder....
weegee_101 Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Geh... Commercials in video games, ugh... Heh, I love trying to figure out all the banner adds and stuff in sports games though, but they're only banners. I wouldn't mind advertisements in games if they were sort of incognito, like billboards, wall advertisements, etc. but if they added in something like commercials between levels.... I think you get where I'm going with this. *shrug* We'll see where this will take us.
Freyar Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Anyone ever play "Wipeout XL"? Remember how there was one drink company that was advertised in there? If you can guess/tell me what it is... you'll win a prize. (That was the heaviest advertising I ever noticed in a video game.
Charles Lindsey Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 What's wrong with it?* It's the natural progression of things. You pay your ISP to spam you on every page you go to. You pay your cable bill to watch ads. It's just one more step. It's their money and they want it. * Devil's advocate. I actually hate it.
Freyar Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 That's the way the world works... viacom has pissed me off though when they went against Dish Network
Soback Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 "What's wrong with it?* It's the natural progression of things. You pay your ISP to spam you on every page you go to. No, I don't pay my ISP to spam me, I pay them to use the bandwith, the problem is, they actually steal the bandwith that I pay for and use some of it to throw ads at me, which I think should be illegal. And my cable, I pay for it to watch movies/shows, the commercials that run in between I DON'T want, so in actuality they are stealing my time, everytime they show a commercial, the time I've paid for so that I could watch the show.

Charles Lindsey Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I gotta learn not to play devil's advocate. I think Soback is right. It's stealing at worst, piggybacking on my dime at best.
