street228 Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 my question, is to who controls the servers.... I spent close to three days, of well invested time, working a strategy based on the CURRANT laws of physics surrounding the UC Universe... upon, beginning to play on the mp servers, the physics of the game remained relativly the same. after three days of testing a strategy, for survival. I entered the server a few minutes ago(after agging on EVERY fleet) on the boards, and find the actual PHYSICS has been manipulated, in a way which completely defeats my established strategy. sure, I can spend another week finding a new strategy...but this leaves me with questions and doubts, as to "why bother". To change the physics of the universe, to stop someone from taking advantage of existing form of behavior in physics, for WHAT purpose? Was it to stop, a percieved UNFAIR advantage of a single player, who exploited what was there?, hopefully, it was not. As, anyone who took advantage of such...is only using their heads. ANYONE could do the same; thus all is equal The only advantage, it actually gave, was bought time, to get things organized, or to go for a drink. EVERY player could have done the same. NOW,because of this, the physics within mp game, is contrary to the game parimeters, in general. If I come up with a new strategy, and get a percieved unfair advantage...will you change those laws of physics as well? I would give you an example, but it would give away my NEXT strategy. I am NOT going to speak OUTRIGHT clear, as to what the law that was changed is, because it would give away my percieved UNFAIR advantage, in the event, it be put back to its original format. (which I would hope would be done with server 4) And, the one responsible for the change(whoever) is well aware of the change made, on 09/14/04 If the reason, was to stop a technical problem, then my question is moot, but I am curious, if my future efforts, will also be neutralized, to give the others a more EQUAL standing, in the field, even though, they did not concieve of such a strategy?
Guest Remo Williams Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I'm glad your questions not for me because I have no idea what your talking about? I don't run or control the 3000AD servers in anyway, but I can tell you this from running UC servers of my own. There is no way to change the physics of the game universe. That is code only Derek can alter and the server version hasn't changed that I know of so you might want to go back and check again. Make sure something else wasn't going on maybe a poor connection I don't know. It would help if I did know what exactly youÔÇÖre talking about.

While on the server, he said something about "drifting" and losing velocity and speed. --OT-- Since BC has never really had any "realistic" inertia or gravitational forces in space, I really don't know what he was talking about. Hit "0" and it's instant stop. Hit "5", accelerate to max speed and you'll slowly decelerate. It's been that way since BCM. The only difference between UC and BCM is that if your set engine to 10 in BCM(G), you get twice max speed. In UC, engine set to 10 doesn't change anything but the rate of Radine consumption (no way to get twice max speed).

Actual there is a big difference in the engine setting speed ratio when youÔÇÖre not in AP. If the engine is set at 5 then youÔÇÖre only capable of going half the maximum speed of your craft. ThatÔÇÖs only when it under manual control though. Switch to AP and there is no difference because the default engine setting in Logistic's for AP is full power I believe.

It isn't relevent to the topic.

Marvin Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Street, you need to join a fleet. Any fleet. So you can openly discuss your tactics with someone who knows the INs and OUTs of the battlecruiser universe. Otherwise, you're pretty much OTL with that monologue you posted above.

I think that they are like the only fleet not to show at any fleet meet...ever.
Zane_Marlowe Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Yeah, I posted in the Gammulan forum a little while ago to see if there were signs of life. I basically asked, "you guys going to play MP or be involved in fleet rp or anything like that?" They basically said, "We're here, but no, we don't have any plans like that." And that's about where it ended. Lord David has been lurking in quiet frustration about the failure of his fleet to show its teeth. Jaguar is a regular over at the Politics and Religion forums, but I don't think his ambitions include actual gameplay or RP. I've teased them (good naturedly) in a couple posts about being pacifists, but honestly they don't have any active members besides those two I think. Too bad really, they were supposed to be the scourge of the universe. I could imagine all kinds of super-cool martial organization coming from the Gammulan Empire, but I don't know how the guys over there would accomplish this at present.
Guest Remo Williams Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Ok gentlemen messages have been flying into my PM box of someone within the fleets actively trying to recruit current fleet members to their fleet. This is a no no please stop. Its one thing to have someone wanting to transfer when transfers are open and perfectly acceptable, I'm going to leave it at that but if it persists I'll give all the details including snips from chat logs to Derek for review. ThatÔÇÖs all I'm going to say on the issue. Now lets get back to business here. When you know you have a team to compete in the meet on the 26th please post the details here so I can plan out the meet in detail. Such as am I going to need two servers so I can run two matches at a time or will one server carry the load for the meet etc.

If me and Jamotto don't start getting some help in these fleet matches, I'm going to petition to desolve the entire TDH fleet and go back to being an Indie!

Guest Remo Williams Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 No problem we all make mistakes. I'm still going to blow your ship up if I see you on a MP server nothings changed. You might consider joining in on this mess I'm brewing here and get your name and ranking on the players stats board. Well once it's up anyway for viewing. Things are sure to heat up as we start to see who's going to this yearÔÇÖs tournament. We all know it will be prime in the end but who's bragging.

But, if you have not figured it out....I do not have much respect for authority... Following orders, has become a foriegn concept to me..especially, if its gonna get me killed. I will join a fleet...eventually, but would rather remain the "FOX" for everyone's amusement...for now. My Idea, is to make it interesting enough to get more involvement for MP, in gerneral. (thus increasing all the fleet's ability to reach ACTIVE recruits.) For now SERVER 4....Paladian, is the Fox's watering hole.. I am willing to be in the Eluri,mp_Procon sector for 4 hours per night...(7pm-11pm U.S. & Canada, Central Time Zone mon-fri) for for an indefinate amount of time. I can help those, who ask questions (Learning) on that server, as well..at least what I do know about UC. This will give everyone GOOD practice, and an oportunity to observe strategy, over braun. No one will even have to go wondering the galaxy to find me...Ill be waiting, and I will not leave that region. I will be TER/MIL... heavy criuser and no cloak. You be what you will...does'nt matter to me. paint the name BUSH on your hull, if you want..lol oh...and you might want to bring..some help [ 09-15-2004, 12:21 PM: Message edited by: street ]

I will probably do this eventually, but meanwhile, I am trying to generate (non-fleet) MP action, for the general MP enviroment...The Idea, is to get MP active enough...so that the fleets will have ACTIVE and willing recruits to pick from. at present, it is obvious, to me; from the many hours I have spent on server 4, players, find MP empty, and do not stay long. People, who are new, and get into MP are leary of fleet expertise, and the DEDICATION, fleet ops require...This leariness, will dissapate, once they are familiar with the mp enviroment and a non-obligatory means of practice. Confidence and addiction, will add "ACTUAL ACTIVE PARTICIPATORS" TO ALL the fleets. IF NON fleet servers stays active...then the whole group of servers will benefit from the result. SO,,for now, I am the "FOX", for any willing to give it a shot.
Guest Remo Williams Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 The player stats board is up.
Guest Shingen Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 I don't think that last match between GalCom and TDH was meant to be scored, was it?
DennyMala Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Why not? You and Jamotto earned your victory honestly against me and Marvin as representatives of the Prime Fleet. It was a fair match even if we never encounter us in a skirmish...
Guest Shingen Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Mainly 'cause we never decided how much to score it for. In Remo's stats board thingy there, it's scored for 0, which is pretty much a non-score anyway.
Quazar Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 quote:Originally posted by Remo Williams: The player stats board is up.I like your page layout, Remo. Good work! However, you left out four Fleets in the Fleet/Alliance section. Yes it was the only official match held that Sunday. I wish it would of had an objective point value but we can revise it once I see it written into a document. Objective values are as follows and depend on the ROE time limit, and the difficulty level of the objective. [*]500 points = 30 minute time limit, Easy objective. [*]1000 points = 45 minute time limit, Moderate difficulty. [*]2500 points = 60 min. time limit, Hard objective [*]5000 points = un-timed match, Nightmare difficulty Since it was an improvised ROE and no point value was assigned before the match it just counts as a win for the fleet. quote:I like your page layout, Remo. Before I posted the link and damn near laid my head down on the keyboard for the night. LOL! I left out one Player to by mistake. Sorry Jomotto I'll get you added in there this evening along with the rest of the fleets.
ShoHashi Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I also like the stats board, Remo! I do see one change that you should make with the Insurgents. Maybe you want to just call it The Insurgents. I know you had Balor there in the stats board, but it really wasn't all just Balor. When we played that match it was members from two different Insurgent Fleets, hence why you might just want to entitle it The Insurgents. quote:Insurgency (Officially: The Insurgents)Please just list us at The Insurgents, Quazar. The SC does not condone it being called The Insurgency.
