Guest Steve Link Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Hello all, just thought I'd introduce myself. After reading about BCM and GCO in an article in PC Gamer, I decided I'd dust off that copy BC3K 2.0 I had sitting on a shelf somewhere and finnally start whiping my PC back into a semi DOS friendly shape again. You see I bought the "silver box" edition and while it was buggy as hell, I was nevertheless impressed with the games potential. I even lurked around this site in it's early days and I downloaded the patches that were available at the time. But back then it had only been a year since I had finnally surrendered my beloved Mac and joined the PC collective Needless to say my knowledge of DOS and troubleshooting techniques were somewhat lacking. And so it sat as I turned to other games and hobbies. By the time BC3K 2.0 rolled around, My PC was no longer configured to play it. My Voodoo had given way to a TNT2 and my Soundblaster 16 was replaced by an Aureal card. I picked the game up anyway and put it on my "Rainy Day" list, but it too sat. Well BCM piqued my interest again, and so I figured I'd finnally get around to installing BC3K to get a taste of what BCM would be like. All I can say is Wow. BC3K is incredible in its depth. It reminds me of some of my old favorites like Starflight. Thank you SC for standing by your game. I just wish I'd stuck it out a while longer so I could have known what I was missing. I am definitely on board for BCM.I am still in the middle (or would that be beggining?) of climbing this games extensive learning curve. I saw a thread around here recently about stupid newbie stunts. So in the spirit of newbie inauguration I thought I'd throw in one of my own. I was on a trading run to Pluto and I was looking for the Starstation listed in the Apendix Only a Defense satelite showed up on my scopes. Well this had me scratching my head and wondering if I had correctly installed the Map Pak. Well a day later is when I figured out that I probably had the dang TACSCAN in the wrong mode. Heh, sometimes things don't seem so obvious the first time out. Anyway thanks for listening to my tale. This seems like a nice community and I look forward to gaming with you once multiplayer becomes a reality. I definitely have my work cut out for me. Hopefully I'll rate more than "Garbage Scow Commander" by the time BCM comes on-line. later Steve Link

Advil Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Potential fan here as well, anxiously awaiting the demo. Somehow I missed the whole first BC3000 thing, not sure how considering my addiction to elite/privateer back in the day. And now there's no way I can run BC3K due to its age and my system config.I keep thinking about throwing together some old parts with a voodoo2 just to see what the original was like.
Guest rtoolooze Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Welcome aboard Steve, Advil! Nice to see new recruits. rtoolooze
HuFox Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 I am glad to see a game that brings back the glory's of the old boardgames. Sadly I to missed out on BC3k, but recently discovered it. I downloaded the demo and was addicted. At this time I am not able to find a full copy of BC3k so I will hold out for BC:M.Which will prove to be quite a lesson at patience. =)

Guest Steve Link Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Speaking of board games got me thinking about the old Star Saga series another one of my old favorites. It was essentially a programed text adventure that used the computer for bookeeping but the actual text was in in booklets and you moved about a paper map with a game piece. I had it for my Apple IIgs. I played the first two in the series, there was supposed to be a third but it never made it to the IIgs. If anyone here knows, did it ever make it to the PC? and if so how was it? Steve Link

thanatos Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Welcome aboard, Commanders. You'll not find a more challenging and rewarding "game" out at this time than BC3K. The learning curve is steep initially, but worth the time to master. I did not have the time to dedicate to beta-testing BCM, but I have been informed playing BC3K will be a good foundation to have, and ease the curve for BCM.As you'll soon discover as well, you won't find a more friendly and interesting Internet forum and on-line community of players than the one right here. That remains one more reason I'm looking foward to BCM release. Doc Hoover

WarpCore Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 Hello, I'm also new to the BC world. I was always into PC Games, but only the MULTIplayer variety. Although I always knew that BC3K was great, it wasn't a multiplayer game so it never piqued my interest. Now that BCM will be out shortly, I am trying to get the BC3K demo working so I will have a fighting chance against you guys when BCM and GCO are released. I would love to try BC3K now, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find a copy?WarpCore
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 7, 2001 Report Posted March 7, 2001 There was a thread here quite recently, which pointed to an online CD-ROM store in the US that was still carrying BC3K v2.0.
