Guest $iLk Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Someone leaked the script on Usenet a while back. I've seen a couple videos on it a while back from E! and another from some other channel.
LordDavid Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: quote:Originally posted by Menchise: Well, it's even-numbered, so I'm excited. huh?LOL! Its a Star Trek Tradition. All of the odd numbered Star Trek movies have sucked (such as The Motion Picture, Search for Spock, movie number 5 where Kirk sees god and is unimpressed, etc), and the even numbered Star Trek movies are quite good (Wrath of Kahn, Voyage Home, Undiscovered Country, First Contact, etc). The last movie, Star Trek 9 wasn't that great so here's hoping the tradition continues and this new Star Trek 10 is good. [ 06-26-2002, 02:20 AM: Message edited by: LordDavid ]
LordDavid Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Speaking of trailers, a new Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers teaser trailer has been released. It looks awesome http://www.movie-list.com/l/lordoftheringstrilogy.shtml [ 06-26-2002, 02:27 AM: Message edited by: LordDavid ]
Guest Grayfox Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 SW:EP2 set standards??? for what? it was a crappy movie. i think the last good one was first contact. something about the borg thats just cool as hell
Rosko Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 quote:There was something about the look of Trek movies in the 80s that Berman and his crew haven't been able to reproduce.I thought so too; none of the new Star Trek or Star Wars films have been good. They spend too much focus on the special FX! Hopefully, the new ST film will be a pleasant surprise (unlike some unnamed, resent series)
LordDavid Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 The trailer looks interesting to say the least. Was it me or was that Lore (Data's brother) in the trailer? He was IMO one of the coolest characters from the TNG TV series.
Eclipse Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 quote:Originally posted by Sebbit: I love Star Trek. And in this movie, I heard you will find out why Starfleet does not install seatbelts. Everyone know it is only because having ensign's flying across the bridge in combat looks cool.
Guest Grayfox Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 ahhh yes the infamous "Kirk Lunge" across the bridge. i used to love when they did that.
Supreme Cmdr Posted June 30, 2002 Report Posted June 30, 2002 I just saw the trailer for Nemesis!! Freaking cool!!
Guest Grayfox Posted July 1, 2002 Report Posted July 1, 2002 notice the release date??? dec 13th... trying to compete with The Two Towers... it might hold up for about 2 or 3 weeks before LOTR pulls away box office wise. it does look interesting, and the more i think about it, the more the even numbered thing makes sense... 1 sucked, 2 rocked, 3 sucked, i thought 4 sucked too, 5 definitely sucked, 6 rocked, generations blew, first contact rocked, stIX sucked too... hmmm 5-4 in favor of suckiness. hopefully this will even it up
Urza Posted July 2, 2002 Report Posted July 2, 2002 quote:Originally posted by Grayfox: theres a difference?Sure. Mainstream trekkers are looking for combat, and lots of it. (2 had this in spades; no wonder it's so popular) Other, more traditional action sequences are also good. (8 had lots of these) A little comedy never hurt anything, either. (4 had this, but was lacking in the other two departments) The rest of the movies (except 6, which had a little of everything) lacked these fundamentals, and were frowned upon by Trek fans. Other moviegoers are more interested in traditional movie aspects, such as quality of acting (trekies are a little more forgiving here, though bad acting can ruin any film), character development, and so on. Trekkies like this sort of thing too, but it's icing on the cake compared to the first paragraph's essentals.
CommanderJohnson Posted July 2, 2002 Report Posted July 2, 2002 *BEGIN RANT* Star Trek IV was BAD. I mean, sure, it has some humor, but they spent so little time in space or fighting that you could almost forget it was a Trek movie. They keep showing it over and over again on TV, and people for some reason keep watching it, but it can HARDLY BE CONSIDERED TREK. Look at Star Trek VI, it had a plot, it had fighting, and it took place IN SPACE. Look at just about EVERY OTHER Trek film, and it counts. It's not that I have them being on the ground, either, look at Star Trek II, I liked it. It had space, and ground, and was funny when Khan looked at the screen and got blown to hell. But Star Trek IV was BAD. It had an adventure to find a couple stupid WHALES. Who cares about a couple whales? That was the lamest plot device and lamest Star Trek movie in existance, and they KEEP SHOWING IT. They almost NEVER show Star Trek III, or VI on TV, and it's REALLY annoying..... *END RANT* [ 07-02-2002, 03:20 PM: Message edited by: Dredd ]
Guest Grayfox Posted July 2, 2002 Report Posted July 2, 2002 quote:Originally posted by Dredd: Who cares about a couple whales? umm thats what the whole plot of the movie was about... because at the time the movie was made, NO ONE gave a crap about the whales. so, trek decided to hop on the ole greenpeace bandwagon and make a pro-"save the whales" movie. that still doesnt excuse it from being crappy though.

I have no problem with saving the whales. I like whales. But that's a plot for a stupid Captain Planet movie. Not Trek. Trek is about phasers and explosions and ships and killing stuff. Not about saving the whales, peace, harmony, and love. Stupid Captain Planet loving hippies wrote the script for that movie and then the same people authorizied it for production. Some people don't deserve to live....

Urza Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Wow, the trailer's ten times better when I see it in an actual theatre... [ 07-07-2002, 09:43 PM: Message edited by: Urza ]
