rjy01 Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Has anyone else read this book? I strongly recommend it for anyone interested in console development. The author details the genesis of the Xbox and the turf wars within Microsoft during it's development. It's a real page turner -- I had trouble putting it down. I hope SC someday does a similar history of the Battlecruiser series (hint hint!)

Supreme Cmdr Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 I bought it the first week it was released. I've read it. Quite interesting. My biography is still in works and has been since 1998 actually.
Urza Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Let me guess... It's ready when it's ready, and right now it ain't ready.

Reading Opening the Xbox actually convinced me to go buy one. I'm glad I did -- Halo alone is worth the price of admission. It looks as if there's some good stuff coming down the pipeline too.

And in regards to Halo, they are coming out with it for PC, or so i've heard. That's why I decided to stick with the PC for my gaming needs. [ 08-05-2002, 01:27 AM: Message edited by: Dredd ]
Parias Posted August 5, 2002 Report Posted August 5, 2002 Yeah, PC version's due out in 2003.. but I sprung and got an XBox anyways. Not only does Halo kick massive ass, but Steel Battalion is also due out soon.. and the mere thought of playing it makes my pants catch flame. Of course, the $150 price tag for the controller might be a bit much for some..
rjy01 Posted August 6, 2002 Author Report Posted August 6, 2002 I've heard that Halo is coming out on the PC, but from what I've read it will be slightly different than the Xbox version. Regarding Steel Battalion: $150 bucks for a controller for one game? I think some parents are going to experience sticker shock this Christmas!
Parias Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 Different indeed, though the primary refinements are going to be focused on multiplayer.. singleplayer will probably remain intact, for the most part, although I wouldn't object too strongly if they updated some of that damned repetitive geometry...
