Kalshion Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 ok I didn't know what to name this topic really.. but this worry's me Ok we all know very well that when MP comes out where probably going to have an influx of new players on this board.. Now will these be good players?? My observations show that games that are MP tend to have very rude, insubordinate players, prime example is Renagade.. everytime you snipe someone *im a sniper and I sniper in EVERY game* you get cussed out at, called a cheater and sorts of colorfull words Ok now we all have seen how some MMOG's go, ok SC said that in BCO you WON'T be able to do things other than what your charater is able to handle Elite Marines will not be able to pilot fighters/tanks Mobile Marines will not be able to pilot fighters but will be able to drive tanks/apc's etc.. Commanders im unsure of What will stop these new players from ruining everyones fun? some players from what I've witnessed *Massive online and not MO* tend to only come on to grief btw for those who don't know Griefers are players who's sole perous is to ruin everyones fun either by TKing, or destroying there own base

TKing or insulting behavior would get you kicked from the server by one of the many admins that will be present and court marshaled from the Fleet that you belonged to more than likely. Also just because some one belongs to a fleet is no guarantee they'll be allowed on a fleet server its up to their FC if they get on as far as I know. The public servers will probably be a different story though. I'm sure they will have their share of problem players. Nothing the server admins won't be able to handle though.
Emmett.hendrick Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I agree it will probably be like the early days of the board - you got to remember Derek runs a tight ship and there are NO exceptions. I'm fairly sure if Derek is not part of the Server Admin team the people who are will have an equally tight brief so I am confident trouble makers will be weeded out and tossed out quickly and efficiently. Get out! Derek made these boards the safe heaven of intelligent( ) conversation that they are. A place were even people like me can have a conversation or a Discussion without fear of being flamed or being called stupid or something else to the same effect. So I have confidence that the BC online expierence will continue to protect and extend this community that he has created.

Sure, we'll have some griefers every now and then, but with server kicks, bans, IP blocks etc, I don't think we'll have that much of a problem.
Epsilon 5 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 For BCO is will depend on the amount of people there is. If there's alot of people on the server it's hard to follow everything, and as sad as it is if you start banning every trouble maker around you'll lose alot of money AND you'll get a bad reputation (!), the game will be called a "carebear" game/server. But the main issues revolves around the player killing possibilities. Can you, random Joe Blow, go and kill everything you want? Is there a way to play normally without going out of safe zones? It doesn't matter if someone will never be able to go neat a city anymore, some people LOVE to be jerks. They become popular and they enjoy it. If I, crap pvper, don't want to deal with PVP, can I prevent myself from dying becasue of players? Can someone kill me and steal/destroy what I worked for an eternity to get? It's a tough choice. It's as bad as balancing issues. Even if you claim the game is a pvp-based game, without the passive crowd you lose many players, and most passive players do support roles which are essential to the game (In jumpgate you have traders, which keep stations stocked with equipment and in Neocron you have constructors/researchers and the hunters that kill warbots to get rare parts) Both Jumpgate and Neocron have that problem (griefing), and although you can have an implant in Neocron that prevents players from damaging you in any way, it,s very disadvantageous, since you get less money, exps, can't get in a clan and other people can't heal you with spells. On the Mightygames Jumpgate server (EU) they banned entire squads for being trouble makers. Result? the US players look at the EU like the USA look at France! Another issue about dealing with griefers is how to manage accidents. If attacking other players put you in a world of trouble, people that hit other players with large weapons by accident (I heard the story of people with rare rocket launchers kill 4 NPC merchants in a single shot during a pvp fight) shouldn't have to cope with the trouble. ...

Pay attention. Nobody was talking about BCO. True, but humor us on what you would do to griefers in BCO Plus thank you for the replys =) I gotta agree with Cmdr James Smyth (Yes I Know im using her game name) This board is a rare one with a rare admin who doesn't take shit from no one. Boards like Renagade and Generals (Who have HEAVY flaming, one of the main reasons I stoped being part of the Renagade communitys.... ahem..... gangs) need better admins, but there run by EA so what do you expect, EA doesn't keep a tight leesh on things, Ok example, and yes SC i Know im going off topic *in my own topic, lol* ok I made an account on Generals and stoped using it after awhile cause life got in the way.. I return and find out someone got into my account and changed EVERYTHING around to suit there own needs.. I e-mailed EA and they said I was lieing, I showed them evidence, they still said I was lieing and they threatened to take me to court if I continued. That right there told me to stop But what about HERE on the boards? I mean sure your right we will have griefers on the servers and the boards but on the servers who will be admins and mods?? will they be chosen via there rank?? or will out Famous SC ( ) choose who his Henchmen( ) are I already have a feeling I know who the server admins will be.. no brainer there.. but hey it doens't hurt to ask questions (but it does hurt to ask Ryhictoral questions, or questions you already know the answer to)
GREG MILLER Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 I don't expect our online experience to be any different than it is on this board within the 3000ad universe. In other words....You behave or else.... This includes you to EP5.

I have yet to take the dip into any MP (gasp!) mostly because of the issues Kalshion raised (and the fact I just got broadband 6 months ago.) But I've decided BCM will be my "first step into a larger world" because I'm comfortable with the personalities on this board.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: He did mention BCO 2 times, enuff for me Its about conversation flow. If you noticed, Remo and every post after that, didn't focus on BCO because its not currently on the radar. In short, we pretty much ignored it because the flow of conversation dealt with MP in the short-term - as such, has nothing to do with BCO. Whether he mentions it or not.
Cruis. In Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 quote:My observations show that games that are MP tend to have very rude, insubordinate playersits been my experience that it takes all kinds to make the world or the net. there most likely will be these influx of players, and even some who lurk in the shadows on these boards who don't post, but are registered. but can't let that bother you. im sure some players here may set up servers, and with such they will set up stern rules for their servers and moderators to enforce them.. IF the sc decided to host a server capable of 32 players or so, im sure he would make sure he had people capable of banning evil doers just as he has on this forum. correct me if I was wrong Derek.
weegee_101 Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 SC, may I suggest possibly having the forum rules in the BCM Gold Manual? This might help clarify most of the rules for the board. Plus, I don't know many people who join a board and actually read the rules right after joining, or read them in depth. If you make it big and clear in the manual it might help. As for servers, I have no worrys.
Kalshion Posted February 22, 2003 Author Report Posted February 22, 2003 How many people you know that read the manual? Alot of players just buy the game, install it, and jump right in without reading the Manual

Yea, and after the first 5 minutes of BCM you just about HAVE to read the manual. For example, the tutorials don't teach you much (last time I checked).
Kalshion Posted February 23, 2003 Author Report Posted February 23, 2003 aye, its the manual that teachs you what you need in order to suceed in this game, the tuturail only gets you prepered for the class you want to play

GREG MILLER Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I purposely play first without looking in the manual, just to see what I can figure out on my own. When I get stuck, then I go through the manual. I totaled three Battlecruisers before I quit playing BC3K and started to study the manual. The best one was I made planet fall on Earth, and needed to find out how to get back to space. While I was thumbing through the manual, none of my crew carred enough to notify me I was heading for a mountain, and loosing altitude to boot. Oh well. The people that think asking a question is easier than finding it themselves in the manual are the problem. If you have the manual, use it!

I used to be one of those gamers who doesn't read a manual and just plough in head long after reading the keybaord appendix, but SC changed me and now I am a better educated person. Indeed I have become quite the flight sim fanatic as I now force myself to sit down and read the manual.
