Captain McMahon Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 How would you like to see a movie adaptation of Derek Smart's Space-Sim? What would the premise be and do you think DS will bother with a game based on the movie? Can't you spell Battlecruiser?!? Yes, I was just sleeping thats all [ 06-05-2004, 12:38 AM: Message edited by: Mrxknown ]
weegee_101 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Pfffffffffftttt....lol damnit, now I gotta clean up my monitor. Trying to say something without saying are we?
Wolferz Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 You can start the collaborative screenplay in the Roleplay forum
Takvah Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I think that the Battlecruiser Universe would make a fantastic setting for a movie or story. There are all of the elements of established sci-fi fare with the added elements of political intrigue that can be brought on by a semi-declared civil war. I have already considered writing a story about the Battlecruiser franchise. The problem for me is time. I don't have the time to write much of anything these days and when I do find time I am wanting to set it to a supernatural thriller I am currently writing (just for the hell of it.. it's a hobby not a profession) *laughs* I already have the story concept for a BC tale that I would write. Sorry, I don't do collaborations *snickers*. PREMISE: The story would surround the Galcom/Insurgent struggle, because I don't think you can explore the enemy beyond without understanding that there is an enemy within. The Gammulans would make an appearance and would be a factor but it would not be in a way that would be epic. They would be a plot device in this first story; they would be understood to be there, to be powerful but for now they are across the galaxy. The Insurgents are a vast and tangled web of outer world governments, corporate honchos and genuine honest to god philanthropists. The mixture is a witch's brew of greed, profiteering and freedom fighting. Once declared to be public enemy number one the Insurgents have bounced back from near collapse at the feet of Galcom's mighty military. For the past five years the Galcom brass have had a bigger fear to face than the Insurgents. It was back then that the reports started to come in that the Gammulan military had begun massive buildups and was expanding its own holdings within the universe. Knowing that at some point Gammula and Galcom would meet at a supposed middle and when that time came they would need to be ready, the focus has shifted. Insurgent strongholds have been left unmolested and able to rebuild while Galcom amasses a fleet and a military to stifle any Gammulan threat. Insurgent propagandists and plants within the military have aided the drumbeat of fear within Galcom focusing them on this threat by planting horror stories surrounding Gammulan methods within the media outlets held by their corporate members. Meanwhile on a planet far flung from Galcom HQ and at the edge of Insurgent held space a strange discovery has been made. The Insurgents keenly aware that their forces are markedly outnumbered have pursued a way to even the odds and on this planet they believe that they have found the answer. (NO IT IS NOT A SUPERWEAPON ONE SHOT END THE UNIVERSE DEAL!) Word of strange trading missions to the planet are beginning to spread and spies within the Insurgent organization and within the trading guilds have been reporting it back to Galcom, for a hefty price. Now at the highest levels of the Galcom military even out of the reach of the Insurgent's seemingly limitedless resources there is talk and speculation. What is it that the Insurgents are working on? Why have they chosen a simple farming planet on which to work on it? Galcom dispatches a ship to find the answers. When a privateer returns the ship's log buoy to Galcom the mysteries only deepen. END PREMISE Obviously there is some backstory on the BC Universe but what makes it so interesting to me is that there is so much room for speculation and imagination, there is so much about it to be fleshed. This type of story may not be everybody's cup of tea but I always enjoy a good dialogue driven plot. This story full of subterfuge, battle (in space and planetside) coupled with the Battlecruiser Universe... hell it's a homerun (if I do say so myself heheh). Ofcourse, Derek would likely sue me for manhandling his intellectual material... woe is me! [ 06-02-2004, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: Takvah ]
Kalshion Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Impressive Takvah, I like you're premise The problem with starting a movie, is time.. and money.. along with resources and crew SC would need to hire a film crew to do such a thing Alone it would take 3-4 years of script writing just to get it right Then, you need to find the right talent for the people in question Then, you need to hire someone to handle special effects, someone like Steven Spielburg would be great for this type of a movie After that, you would need an editor, someone experienced in video and movie editing, (someone lime me, that's what I do at school and for Fox News although in a limit fashion when it come's to FN ) In total.. it would take maybe 6-7 years TOTAL (maybe even less depending how dedicated the crew is) to make the film a reality But hey! If SC need's talent he can alway's call upon us There are some rather talented people here (Elio, Jaguar, Remo, Along with several others) Those who have been here the longest I know more about so those who had just joined perhaps a year or two ago, sorry but I have no idea what you're RPing and writing skills are like. Personally, it would be a great thing to do.. expically with Derek Smart, granted his movie would instantly be downgraded because of all the idiot's out there who dislike BC.. but hey they never saw it to begin with so how do they know WHAT it's like? Another thing is money, do you people even KNOW how much the aveage movie these day's COST's to make? Expically a movie THIS big? Lemme tell you right now, just from what I've learned it'll take a total of perhaps... 5 - 8 million dollers alone. Granted, I'd love to see Derek TRY this.. it would give him a lot of respect and challenge a lot of other developers But, Takvah you're right.. The BC universe would be GREAT for a movie.. and I feel that if SC does decide this that he should probably follow you're Premise
Takvah Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I wasn't suggesting that SC make a movie. I was suggesting a cool story idea that I would be interested in writing. Obviously, if SC was presented with a book or a script that Hollywood wanted to make into a motion picture etc., he would just license the material and collect his cash. I didn't expect Derek to yell, "action" and direct the thing heheh. I thought the thread was just about "wouldn't it be cool" not hey Derek make this. *snickers* Thank you for the vote of confidence. I might write the first chapter and post it to the RP forum at some point... it ROCKS and starts the story with one hell of a sequence of events.
Joel Schultz Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Sounds like a good story to me. I used to read the RP forums a lot but many of my favorites there seemed to have left. I'm surprised no one has done a BC novel.
Captain McMahon Posted June 2, 2004 Author Report Posted June 2, 2004 I'm not talking about actually having a movie, just the idea. If it doesn't happen, ok, I still got the games and frankly I don't care if there won't be an actual movie. I just thought this would make for a good discussion. Not to mention learn more about other members like Takvah. I do have an idea that isn't feesible until BCO is released. Which is to record scenes with other players and this depends strongly on whether players would be able to look like sys engineers and other positions. Right now I'm not worrying about it. @ Joel Schultz: If DS wanted novels there'll be novels. But it doesn't stop fans from writing their own backstory or just stories concerning ficticious people.
rjy01 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Actually I would prefer a toy line. 3-3/4 scale with a Megaron playset. Think of the possibilities: you could have a playdough accessory for cloneable Resnigs. You could playact an explosive decompression and put the bits back together in the mold/"clone chamber.".
weegee_101 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Heh, only if we could place small explosive "decompression" charges in the center of him... heh, I like that idea.. Boom. I'm such a sick b******
Captain McMahon Posted June 5, 2004 Author Report Posted June 5, 2004 Dunno seeing as you'll an Insurgent, I think I can get some monkeys ;P
Papi Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Hey, that's not a way to treat a lady! Even she's insurgent ;-)
echo Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I guess he'll just have to find a girl monkey to play me
Captain McMahon Posted June 7, 2004 Author Report Posted June 7, 2004 Don't worry it will be a pretty monkey. Now I have been thinking about this, one good premise which I think could lead into a good game. PREMISE: GALCOM is still trying to figure out who stole or destroyed the three vessels in the Gam Quadrant. However, with Insurgent forces gathering strength, many attacks to Earth, planetary problems such as Global Warming, overpopulation, and general public support of Insurgent activities, the Terrans are facing events which will lead to a civil war. What do ya think?
Wody Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 quote:Originally posted by Mrxknown: Don't worry it will be a pretty monkey. Personally, I think we should all play ourselfs. Now that would be really fun, and with the success we'll have, we'll be rich, and can buy all the RANDOM's we need for planets that refuse to show our wonderful movie! Greetings, Wouter Dijkslag
Guest Grayfox Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 only one person can be me... and thats me acting classes be damned!!! im ready

rjy01 Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Who do you think should play SC? I vote for Vin Diesel. In Vin's gravelly voice: "Siddown!"
XOR Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 i suppose BC would be able to be a movie since theres no story to mess up but i stil think games should stay games
weegee_101 Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 quote:Originally posted by Fox__Trot: although a battlecruiser movie could be done with a small group in a basment with some nice computers Heck yea! Cartmanbeeps Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 A BC movie? Ummm. No offense. I like 3000ad a TON! But i think id watch star trek instead. Cause the reason i play 3000ad games is cause they remind me of Startrek.
