  1. Wow! Thanks Tekrebel, posted my problem in the Speedguide forum and some guy helped me step by step how to change my MTU (now sitting at 1454 BTW, instead of the default 1500). Can now access all links (also put in a registry tweak patch to accelerate page-loading times) Great resource, thanks again.
  2. SC should be honored, he is the contributor of todays 'Quote of the day' over at VE [ 11-19-2001: Message edited by: Paddy Gregory ]
  3. Me too, Gecko, I'm in Switzerland. Go to the BMT site on the sales page.

  5. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: I made a couple of scenarios, one of the mountains of Afganistan with Northern Alliance troops closing on the Taliban forces and you control a small special forces team with a Chinook helicopter to go in and take out Bin Laden. Why does that not surprise me in the slightest?
  6. Was actually talking to a friend of mine who's a programmer, he said my problem was probably the firewall set up by my ISP on their ADSL server, before regressing into technical mumbo-jumbo at which point I had a Homer (you know, glazed look, 'blah blah blah' going in ear and out the other). Would this be a reasonable explanation and could anyone one explain it in Homer's terms? It's not my firewall, if I turn off ZoneAlarm, it still happens. Just an aside, had a fright yesterday, I have to connect my PC Modem/ADSL cable to a phone-jack in another room with the cable stretching across the living-room floor. This is not recommended with 2-year olds running around, as mine tripped over it and bust the phone-jack adaptor. Luckily the filter was not damaged and I had a spare adaptor. Why do people build appartments with only 2 phone-sockets nowadays?

  10. This is one film I HAVE to see, along with all my 30-something friends. Opens here next week. My kids are too young. Damn shame.

  12. quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: "Oh BTW, what kind of hardware setup did you get?" It's a ZyXel Prestige 630 ADSL USB Modem Interesting about the servers, I have Yahoo (US) as my Start page, I normally have the Yahoo UK, but it won't load, as will few of the European Yahoos (LOL, we're all Yahoos over here), but the regional US Yahoos (there are more of you, fortunately ) load up no probs. Found out the helpline is also in English, but is forever busy and Charge Sfr 1.00 per minute .
  13. That's what I thought, but why does the dial-up get them and not the ADSL? The speed is fine, I d/l the OFP ultimate upgrade 1.30 in 20min last night instead of the usual couple of hours (32MB or something like that).
  14. OK, so I've now got my ADSL connection (only 256k at the mo, can't afford anything faster), but I've already experienced a few quirks; for example, some pages just will NOT load up, whereas there is no prob with my dial-up. Also, some of your animated logos take forever to load, if at all, again not a problem with my dial-up. Anyone have any clues, are these common problems? Or is it my provider? They do have a helpline, in German, but wanted to find out if you guys had any ideas before I resort to gethering vast quantities of phlegm at the back of my throat and ringing them up. Toodlepip.

What annoys me most about bloody TV journos is the 'How do feel.......?' question they ask relatives of murder victims, or relatives of freed hostages etc or even freed hostages themselves. How do think they feel, you moronic microphone-wielder? 'I've just been freed from 3 years captivity, and to be quite honest I'm a little peeved, I was thoroughly enjoying the hospitality of my captors, the rapings and beatings were carried out with the utmost of sincerity' And when the A-300 came down in Queens, a Sky reporter was interviewing a resident, trying to get her to express her fears that it could have been a terrorist act, rather than actually getting a newsworthy eye-witness account. It's not just US TV journos, we get them in the UK too.

  18. I just heard a plane has crashed in Queens in NY. Anyone got any more news? No terrorist link apparently. Bloody hell, my Brother-in-Law lives there and my in-laws are staying with him. Thank Christ they've gone away for a few days.
  19. Occassionally have the same problems on my work Mac with Netscape, but hitting Refresh usually does the trick
  20. This is a paragraph from today's Daily Telegraph opinion page: quote: I am strongly drawn to the theory, put about in some of the tabloids, that the al-Qa'eda leader turned to international terrorism because he is poorly endowed in the trouser department, and a Chicago girl once laughed at his willy. Against that, it should be recorded that there are many millions of men (I almost wrote "of us") who are similarly afflicted, but who do not feel moved to murder thousands of office workers to make up for it. So there we have it. Forget Palestine or Western troops in Saudi, Bin Laden hates Americans because he has a small penis.
  21. Tim Russ also played a Klingon in an episode of DS9. Can't remember which episode though, possibly something about a former, evil host of Dax coming back to reclaim the symbiont? Please guys, try not to give away too many spoilers, Enterprise doesn't start here for a few months yet.
  22. quote: cuntry That's probably one of the more unfortunate typos I've seen recently.
  23. I can wait a while longer. I've got OFP and C2 to keep my busy for a while yet (took me till 2am to get into the sub pen at La Rochelle). Love the idea of the WWW, can just imagine putting down outside my appartment and popping in for a cup of tea.
  24. First of all, I don't watch CNN. They tend to jump to conclusions before all the facts are out. Secondly, talk to most Brits about the EU and you'll get the same response as you guys about the UN. Remember, it was the League of Nations which was partly responsible for the Israel/Palestine problem back in the 20s. So, in a way, the title of the thread is correct, though not in the way you think. Hell, we're not even sure Mohammed Atta was his real name anyway.
