it says out of stock on chips bits, you just type in bridge commander, when it comes up, it has " - out of stock " next to it. heh... yeah there's this extortionist guy on amazon wakefield something, who bought up a whole bunch and sells them at that high and says no where else has it, its a collectible so hence the high price, i say bullshit. I'll still never buy it at that price if it was the last copy on earth.

Apparantly even though I didn't buy it, bridge commander sold really really well for activision. and thus its modding community is huge and innovative. Now something new interesting and so improbable is being done with the game, a dynamic multi-system universe for you to explore is being coded and created with most of the code being finished since it's been going on for a while but just needs alot of graphics sfx done for it now. Apparantly you will be able to fly to so many different systems, engage in random missions, link up with other fleets of ships, either by your order or not, have them follow you, follow them, attack homeworlds, dock at starbases, all dynamic. Which is how I was saying bridge commander could have been because it has a cool combat engine. the forums go down often due to heavy traffic but see...following http://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~bridgecommander/phpBB I can't link to the topic directly because the board is down. However, it is near the top of the modding forum's topic list, a topic called "ATP: Dimension" or something like that, it has 40 pages of posts so you'll know it when you see it. If all goes well, this will make BC what it should have been, its being done by USS Apollo who developed the previous ATP and ATP to packs, atp stands for advanced technology pack where he scripted stuff like the voyager armour and many other cool technology stuff into the game. as for me, when I finally buy the full game if I can find it anywhere......(out of print) stupid activision........ I will be installing the defiant mod accompanied with the mod of the bridge (so you fly/fight from defiant bridge stead of old galaxy bridge) and anxiously awaiting this release. of course there will be limitations to the dynamic universe, the dynamics I think because it wasn't designed from the ground up to be that way are heavily scripted... but once all the scripting is done, it gives the appearance of dynamix. Ships will be flying around doing there own thing patrolling neutral zones, protecting freighters etc etc... it'll be more fun than simple quick battle anyway.

you agree with my thoughts on the game kung foo? as for the comment on your setup, I just thought that since you had a p4 3.7 which is hellishly expensive isn't it? that you would be able to afford, and also do yourself "justice" by buying a top of the line card like your top of the line chip...I am much like you as for as games are concerned I've switched to playing stuff like doom on the xbox, so i don't have to upgrade my pc just to play a game, consoles are wayyy cheaper than upgrading a pc to play a game, and more and more games are being released cross platform and are actually good and fun on the xbox, i still do prefer pc gaming though, but as i get older money gives way to wants. Yeah I meant your video card is slowing your performance. someone said above it isn't scary, i guess im that sort of frightened person, because i find it jumpy, i hate when a monster attacks from behind and i spin and cannot see him because it's so dark... and in mine i heard footsteps from them.

what do you expect? that video card is old... and slow now for what Doom 3 wants to do... And it is slowing down your system, a 3.7ghz with a radeon 9000 mobility?? I have a radeon 9000 in my p 1.7 inspiron 8200 from 2002. In my view the 9000 was the first best mobile card to play games on because it could run almost anything for its time and after. For doom 3 it's smooth if you use 640 * low detail. Im curious as to why you have such an obviously new laptop with such an old video card, what happened to the x800... or 9800 or 9600... but as for my impression of doom 3, definitely anyone below 18 yrs old will love it, not saying anyone older won't, but as the age group rises and the more games you've like it chances are you've played, the less impressive doom 3will seem to be other than its immpressive graphics/audio. I was going to buy it just because its doom 3, but after playing the demo, I can't bring myself to. Certainly has great atmosphere though.

yeah me too, I've known about this game pre-2000 when it was just a space sim off shoot of wing commander, all the devs were wc fans then, hellcat, and the likes...then he went open source, best thing he did, it evolved into so much more. its a freeform universe.

im going to buy this without playing the demo, rome is always one of my fav things to watch, and i always wanted to conquer the map in caesar 3... here's my chance, my brother has dubbed it caesar 5 hahaha. not funny..

I like the argument from the guy who wrote second. take it away for 10-20 years then revive it might mean something unrecognizable and worse than now. plus I don't want to be looking forward to a new trek series on my 40th birthday heh.... all I think needs doing now, is hiring PROPER writers, proper everything, anyone who's been there the last few years get rid of them, EXCEPT the special effects, make up and technical artists, they can stay, but the creative writing staff....out the door. and I agree with the idea of the games, activision was really petty with their lawsuit, all they needed to do was "make" a good game for heavens sake... it would sell to fans and john public alike for its goodness, not whether or not 10 series or 10 movies are airing... Activision was on a role...armada was good, elite force 1(though short) 2 were good, bridge commander was ok, starfleet command 3 was ok(better with the mods) they were really doing well with those small but basic releases, in that they started small, they got the license and then the next thing you know a whole bunch of games were announced and we fans had so much so soak in. The natural progression from there would have been a game on a bigger scale more epic, like kotor, whether it would be an rpg or action adventure with role play elements in terms of the lasting length of the game and places to go who knows... they could take the premise of bridge commander and expand it. adventuring around with your ship but on a bigger scale... anyway sadly we have to wait years for a new game, unless someone mods some other game... which won't be what is really needed any way. for me star trek has been off the air since deep space nine, enterprise is rubbish. i like the characters but the fiction they write is terrible. it is time now TO BRING BACK star trek, cause its been gone for a while.

well all I ever want is a good game. If it's good I'm happy, assuming I want to buy it in the first place. I've been sticking to genre games lately...star trek star wars..a few offshoots like halo...but those categories are dried up for me. 2007 is a long way away, and if it comes and the st game isn't good...back to square one. i see games like halo as little jumps inbetween. no offense either Derek, but if I could use a wish and wrap a star trek "theme" over UC i would. I just like the universe...UC involves good rp and imagination while playing...and I'm so into trek I like this aspect. damn im such a nerd...

I myself have high "hopes" not expectations for this star trek online game. I just like the star trek universe more than any other, and want this type of game in it. whether it be single or MMO, MMO being more fun I think. Whatever they do, once its fun. Galaxies is just a MMOG with a star wars theme. no feel, no star wars. that is its problem. they need with this game to create a star trek game with MMOG mechanics...so it's first and foremost star trek.

I think what might be sending off warning alarms in your head Derek, is the fact that from that description it sounds like another "dream" game that lead many of us here to battlecruiser. And that many games have claimed since but have not succeeded. depending on whether or not one likes the universe which is created with this game.

from what I can tell of your profile, you do not meet the minimum requirements of the game. You have a pentium 3. Also still at directx 9.0 not that that would matter if your chip isn't fast enough. I'm doubting the pentium 3 you have is over 1ghz.
