  1. Purchase two rad control units. Throw everyone in the Medibay then dock and let the station repair your damaged cargo bay. Launch and clean up and radiation. Repeat for the shuttle bay. I highly doubt that either is the source of your radiation problems. Check your reactor and related subsystems and also check your cargo for large quantities of radioactive minerals. Search the forums for a listing of minerals which can cause nasty radiation problems.
  2. Not really sure, but I am positive it was during the first 18 hours of game play. You see I launched and 18 hours later realized that I needed some sleep too
  3. Space Invaders on the old Atari 480, pop the top and plug the cartridge in (Space Invaders, BASIC, Word Processor). I thought I was in heaven when we bought a cassette drive for it. Zaxxon (sp) on cassette was a blast!
  4. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: The /d param is for debugging. Thats what produces the text. Its a demo. Live with it. And no, you cannot run the demo without it. That would be my misunderstanding there then. That's what comes from not actually checking out the demo myself
  5. A little more fuel for the fires: Torvalds speaks out about MSs Open Source position. SIIA issued a press release on behalf of its members. There's also a nice piece by Andrew Leonard at Salon.com. My favorite quote is quote:Linus Torvalds said: I wonder if Mundie has ever heard of Sir Isaac Newton? He's not only famous for having basically set the foundations for classical mechanics (and the the original theory of gravitation, which is what most people remember, along with the apple tree story), but he is also famous for how he acknowledged the achievement: "If I have been able to see further, it was only because I stood on the shoulders of giants". One of the greatest scientists of our time, having done more for modern technology (and thus, btw, for the modern economy) that Microsoft will ever do, acknowledged the fact that he did so by being able to use the knowledge (what we now call "intellectual property") gathered by others.
  6. quote:Originally posted by BCFreak13: Ahhh We love to ponder.... Yet another thing to ponder: The indies also get fleet protection when they are attacked. I think we shouldn't protect them Stand down there commander, obviously you have forgotten GALCOM directives 3 & 5: 3. Protect all Terran assets and those of GALCOM member nations against hostile acts. These include the protection of all bases, stations, and ships operating within the Terran quadrant and their allies. Note that this does not make any distinction between GALCOM and Non-GALCOM assets. As such, under the correct circumstances, a GALCOM commander will even protect the mis-guided Insurgents if need be. 5. Protect the trading lanes from hostile forces and ensure that all registered transports have safe passage through GALCOM controlled territories. [ 05-04-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  7. quote:Originally posted by BCFreak13: Indies are practically a fleet in and among them selves. They all help out each other, do alot of the same work and all of that stuff. There is only one difference: They don't have the rules we do. They can attack anyone they want and not get a violation for it! That's something to ponder....... Yes, they are free to do just exactly as they please but the moment they become a recognized problem, they also become a recognized target; also something to ponder. . . .
  8. It's not a new line from them, they claimed open source stiffles innovation before a congressional committee earlier this year and no one believed them then either.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Outlaw: BTW, why am I reduced to 4 stars? Because someone didn't rate you as a 5 and now your average is not high enough to rate above a 4. If you don't like the rating system, you can turn off the stars for your profile, although people can still rate you. Just click the my profile link at the top of your screen and do some hunting. 10. Then send them to Silicon Pines a fully accredited Assisted Computing Facility.
  11. This was ready earlier but our lovely windstorm knocked out the POP at the U. quote:Originally posted by Charles Lindsey: Now who has the minutes from the last meeting? The indie guys were going to be called something. Sect isn't quite right but I forget. Anyone have that info off the top of their head? conglomerate corporation guild organization They've all been thrown around at one time or another. I think the main point was that these are benefit/profit based groups whereas the Fleets are militaristic in nature. I would think that limiting all unaligned groups to being guilds or conglomerates or whatever would tend to over unify those groups while allowing each group to define itself as a guild/company/corporation/bridge club would tend to encourage diversity.
  12. quote:Originally posted by aramike: Heh, the concept of them all speaking English is, too. So is mercs (and other castes) readily using UCV. But, for the sake of simplicity... Naw, the English bit is simple...babblefish! Seriously though, it is a game and at some point we just have to stop trying to make it reality and accept it as it is sad as that may be. 13. quote:Originally posted by aramike: No, but EarthCOM is. I would see the ships of these races to be either a part of the GALCOM military, or part of their OWN military. Perhaps GALCOM should become a caste. For instance, Terran/Military is by default GALCOM. Yet, the REAL Terran/Military is supposed to be Earthcom according to the story. So, perhaps GALCOM should be with players using Terran/GALCOM, and Terran/Military should remain Earthcom. Does that make sense? Yup. So we would have something like: Ter/Mil ECV Ter/GAL GCV Emp/Mil SCV (Empirian Starforce) Emp/GAL GCV And so forth as appropriate. Oddly enough, the concept of identifiers being unified or conforming to any set pattern across so many different races and "nations" is a bit unbelievable (not that I'm complaining). 14. quote:Originally posted by aramike: Now, here's my list of proposed prefixes: Terran/Military: GCV Terran/Insurgent: ICV Terran/Earthcom: ECV Empirion/Military: EWV or EMV (Empirian War Vessel or Empirian Military Vessel, respectively) Actually, Empirians, as are/were Vesperons, are members of GALCOM and would therefore carry the GCV designator. As the manual states: On stardate 05.11.2993, Galactic Command (GALCOM) was formed. Its founding members were the Terrans, Empirians, and the Vesperons. GALCOM has never been a Terran only insitution. [ 05-02-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  15. quote:Originally posted by GREG MILLER: Somebody correct me if I am wrong but unless you join a fleet, you ship will have an Undesignated Command Vessel (UCV) in front of its name. The only way you fly under an GCV, ECV, or ICV Designation, is that you MUST be part of that organization. Atleast that is how it has always been, maybe things have changed. I've not heard nor seen any change on that either. You either are a member of a fleet or independent or from a non-aligned race. You can't be GALCOM/Insurgent/EarthCOM without being a fleet memeber.

  20. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: They could be *SDM-Widow missiles. Max range is 125km, blast energy is 2500 *Station Defense Missile Ah c'mon SC! Make 'em read the manual, I gave 'em enough clues to get started. ...wait, 2500 blast energy? The weapons appendix (appendix D) lists those monsters as 1500, glad I didn't know this the first time I ventured into the depths! I remember fondly my first venture into Gam space under the ACM. No wonder I was dead in the water with 52% armor after tangling with Gammula.
  21. quote:Originally posted by BCFreak13: Then how do you tell if the cloaked ships are there. Also is that why I see the flash of white light (meaning that someone came through the jump gate)and no one is there? I'm scared!!! SOBACK is correct if you are playing the BCM demo which I will pressume you are not as this is not the Demo forum and this thread never had any relation to the demo. Yes, that flash of white light does indicate something just used a jump gate/wormhole/flux field (very dangerous that) to enter or leave the region. It could simply mean that a ship you weren't tracking left the area or it could mean that a cloaked hostile has entered the region. To put your mind at easy, remember this: Your hostile warning alarm is all knowing in BC3K. If there is a single hostile in the region, cloaked or no, you will get a hostile warning.

  23. quote:originally posted by Tyrn: WARNING: Do not use this tactic against certain Gammulan stations as it will guarantee your early retirement. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Why that? (p.s : how do you do the colors?) Certain of the Gammulan/Valkerie stations carry a very very very very nasty breed of anti-capital ship missile. Using my listed tactic alone is a good way to find out just how effective these beasties are. Let me put this in perspective for you Vagrants have a range of 15KM and a blast energy of 500. The station missiles my crew lovingly calls spiders have a range of 125KM and a blast energy of 1500! As to the colors, note the phrase to the left of the text box and immediately above "UBB Code is enabled" the next time you post.
  24. Shouldn't do this but I am going to anyway: I never use missiles in BC3K, OTS weapons yes but missiles no. Shield type is important but not the most important upgrade available. Reactor type is the most important upgrade available. 1. The single most valuable weapon on a BC are the PTA systems. 2 & 3. The single most important upgrade is your reactor (best with the KR artifact). Why? A fully upgraded reactor can keep the PTA at 100% with rapid fire. If the shields start to suffer from the energy drain (not recharging fast enough), reorient the ship to take advantage of the solar reactor. To take down a station (or capture it). Power PTA to 100%, IOD to 50% Attack the station head on at full speed firing IOD the whole way Watch the station turrets, when they look like they're getting close veer off and hit the afterburners Repeat until station is destroyed To capture a station repeat until armor is 500-1000 Kill PTA and drop IOD to 20% correction 10% Continue pecking at the station until it goes SOS Dock with SOS station WARNING: Do not use this tactic against certain Gammulan stations as it will guarantee your early retirement.
