I've read The Pluto Insurgency and a good amount on the RP Forum, but is there more fan fiction out there? ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) S.O.G. Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet "Hard, Fast, Furious... FIRST!" S.O.G. Home

In case someone has already done this (I don't read every post after all) then forgive me when I say "Why didn't any of us think of this before?" A number of users have noted that email addresses are not readily available via the UBB profiles nor can one directly email a poster from the UBB interface. One way to provide at least access to your email address is to link part of your signature to your profile in the fleet database. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) S.O.G. Very interesting thoughts, and one predominant dark one: Cloning..."Hi Doc, how'd I die this time?" Duncan Idaho anyone? If you remember your BC3K history, cloning is useless in prolonging life. You might also remember that in 2919 a breakthrough was achieved whereby we can control a body's metabolic rate. What other natural clocks can we modify this way? Given this ability, it is not too much of a stretch to believe that the aging process would also have been hit hard by technology and would also be controllable to some degree. I would have to believe that like the breakthrough of 2919, this assumed breakthrough in age control would also have to be quite recent and so it will be unlikely to see any "young" centenarians yet; however, there is nothing short of death to prevent our characters from easily reaching the 200 mark. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. How old is old in the BC reality? Each year, a person has to be older and older to be considered old. 50 used to be considered advanced old age and is now considered the uppper end of middle age. 1000 years is a long time for the human condition to improve, so what are your thoughts? How old is old in 3000 AD? ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. "Hard, Fast, Furious... FIRST!" S.O.G. Home

To add a bit of detail to the SC's directions: From TACOPS, first zoom into the surface of the planet in question and then bring up the control palette and click the "Hold" button. That will freeze the motion on the screen otherwise you'll be chasing those annoying little people around all day . To flag units for retrieval, click on them and select the RTB order. When you've flagged all you want to retrieve, click "Update" on the control palette and then click the "EVAC" button (should be yellow). NOTE: If you pull up the control palette and the "EVAC" button is already lit, start punching it. Someone has flagged themself for immediate transport off the surface and usually means that they will die soon if they don't get back to the ship and receive some medical attention. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. quote:Originally posted by Gallion: I agree Tyrn, their ftp application sucketh bigtime. First time I loaded website up I was using DW3. Made several updates then they (crosswinds?) must've shut down ftp protocol. Since I have all the major stuff loaded it be no biggy fer me now. OK, hate to hear that. I've been doing lag time tests for both sites and they are either slow as tar or in the 1-2 second range over my T-1. Now that I have ESP (see ESP) to keep my files up to date on my work and home machines, I may move permanently to Crosswinds as the ftp aspect is not quite as critical. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. WS_FTP threw its hands up in disgust after 10 minutes to upload 7 files (2.87KB!!) and using their upload utility is a joke for more than just a couple of files (individually selecting 33 files for upload was no joyride). quote:Originally posted by Tac: Tyrn, those are my words Gallion used there Corsair IS the smallest unit. SOG could easily be beefed up to half to the members of the fleet if the situation required it. But its nothing to fight over LOL...first time I've been caught arguing over being the smallest! Not exactly an accolade that I'll go to boot over. Actually, there is a slight discrepancy in your Structure page. quote: Corsair Wing is the smallest and the "highest risk" element of Wraith Fleet. S.O.G. is actually the smallest standing element of Wraith unless a situation arises where S.O.G. would be required to temporarily draft other ships into its number. quote: Fleet Commander Tac: "S.O.G. [is] a 'fast reaction' force . . . [in other words], if something needs to be done and there is little or no time at all to plan for it, S.O.G. members [will] either perform that attack or fight holding actions until such [time as] the other Wings can respond." "To that end the S.O.G. is made up of a few (3 or 4) permanent members and the rest of the unit [may] be recruited from any avaliable Wraith member you can get your hands on." Other than that, I have to say it's quite impressive. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. "Hard, Fast, Furious... FIRST!" S.O.G. It does not matter how "up to date" the card is. DOS Glide, which is required to run BC3K in 3DFX mode, is usually only supported by Voodoo cards. Most video cards, Diamond included, have never supported Glide. I would strongly suggest that you review the Troubleshooting FAQ and the Version Control File as they can help walk you through your MIDI problems. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. I personally have no knowledge ot this card but I do own a Monster Fusion that operates on the correct chipset to run 3dfx. Reading Madrac's last post, you have probably hit on a major problem the S540 does not support Glide (3dfx) as per this page. Madrac, try using your current settings but not using the 3dfx shortcut. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. I love to fly cloaked into Gammulan space. Who doesn't hate radiation floods and who doesn't love flying cloaked through G Space? quote:Would it be worth it to deinstall the game, reinstall the 2.0 that I have, add the 2.08 patch and the Mappak, but NOT add 2.09? As I understand it the 2.09 patch is what causes the radiation flooding. Will I seriously be missing that much if I stay with 2.08, rather than 2.09 if I want to fly cloaked for extended periods of time? While the end decision is, of course, yours; here are some perspectives on which to think: A) Would you rather play the game as the SC has envisioned it or in a "broken" state? Following the thinking of question A, would you rather train now to deal with cloaking radiation in preparation for BCO/BCM or wait until you're dependent upon artificially long periods of cloaking? ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. ACK!! Disabling is a last resort of course. Madrac, I'm running SB 512PCI which is the big brother to your 128PCI. Try setting the MIDI device to MPU-401 on port 330. If that does not work, post here and we'll walk through checking what resources your card is using and how to map those in the Sound Setup. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. Since the DB is actually only storing a URL, it is quite possible to use any size image; technically speaking. That said, I can still think of a couple of valid reasons to enforce 128 x 128: 1. Download speed. It's not call the "World Wide Wait" for nothing and we are encouraging a bit of bandwidth theft by using a url instead of actually storing the image. In short, smaller is kinder. 2. Perhaps the images may be usable in BCO/BCM and those might require 128 x 128? Speculation of course. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon S.O.G. You're right Wold. Slow downs happen when the AI is really active. Just keep flying through that flux field and you'll eventually make to the next sector, just remember that black holes tend to lurk behind flux fields and that will cause your crew a bit of grief. No artifacts in FF, play ACM it's deadlier Matrox dual is for BCM and not BC3K. BTW, Welcome aboard tictoc. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon S.O.G.
