  1. quote:LOL!! I guess Wold didn't want to break the news to you. I guess the NDA works Was there ever any doubts? Zip the lips or get booted in the .... You carry a big stick SC, I didn't go through all that getting into the beta just so I could type my way out of it! ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand" [This message has been edited by Wold (edited 12-28-2000).]
  2. Need a bit more info from you there Hello... What sound card do you have? What video card do you have? Are they built into the motherboard? (if you know) Are you running the standard BC3K or the 3dfx BC3K? Have you searched the board, no date restrictions, for your problem? Have you read the FAQ? We'll help, but we need a bit more to go on. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"

PS. Hello, suggestion, please check the docs again and BTW, welcome aboard.
  4. Registered Dec, of this year....Welcome aboard. How long have you been playing BC3K and what version are you running? To do a drone recovery I set up a waypoint in Tacops for the shuttle that I want to recover the drone. Before you set the waypoint you have to set Tacops view to the planet. Left click on planet, left-click on observe. Open up the Command Pallete, select a shuttle (SC#), click on ADD, then set the action to recover drone # (better get the correct # too)then click on place and put the marker on top of the drone. Launch shuttle. Suggestion (hope you're running ver. 2.09) read the Docs that came with it. Your questions above and the other about Artifacts are answered in the docs. You will see lots of docs. Read 'em, ALL of them! If you can't find the answers there then search the forum, all dates and you'll be amazed at what comes up. Happy hunting!

  6. I know what you are talking about. I've used the tutorial missions on other games and that kind of handi-capped me a bit when I started playing BC3K. There are no training missions there and the game does start quick! However, playing Free Flight mode, I stayed at "home", ie areas that had friendly starstations around. Whenever enemy craft showed up the stations would launch fighters for self-defense. This extra defense allowed me time to learn the curve before tromping off into a hornets nest. If I had questions, I could save the game and check the board here for answers. I imagine that same technique will work for BCM. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  7. Personally, I don't care what my friends think about the games that I play. I don't play them for their enjoyment, I play them for MY enjoyment. They can either shut their trap and quit harrassing me or take a hike, though I start by saying that diplomatically. If I want to talk about the game then I find someone who has similar tastes, ie, here! BCM will be more intuitive, has TONS more play options, and well, it's basically a new game. I think Blades is right in that people will be gawking at the game and you can rub their noses in it for your loyalty and their short-sightedness! Besides, SC has total control of BCM and it won't be released until he says it's ready. Which was, correct me if I'm wrong, part of the problem w/ BC3K and it's original release. You also put your finger on the other part of the problem. The game intimidates some people because of the learning curve and they get defensive when they find out that you can play the game when they couldn't climb the learning curve. Most games a 5 year-old can play, BC3K isn't one of those and it hurt's peoples brains when they have to think past the TV level mentalilty. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand" [This message has been edited by Wold (edited 12-15-2000).]
  8. Another tip: If the temp is 10F or lower (don't know the Celcius conversion here) DON'T set the emergency brake!! IF there is any moisture on the e-brake system it can freeze, locking the wheels and you'll be stuck! More then 1 person has broken a tranny or engine trying to brake their wheels loose. I've also seen them driving down the road w/ a locked wheel...course it's sliding on the ice/snow. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  9. I have some pics floating around somewhere and a scanner. At this point I don't have current jpg of the car. It is a light powder-blue w/ Ford's 302 (5.0 Litre), fuel injected motor. My wife hates to drive it on winter roads, she has a lead foot. Summer time though... I used to have a Honda that had the hand emergency brake. Used it when making corners or turning around. Turn around in 12ft of space w/ the hand brake on. You have a pic of your car? ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  10. Funny thing is quite a few Americans think that ALL of Alaska is like, er, like your combined Ottowa & Calgary weather year-round! Course Valdez averages 30+ ft of snow every winter, Fairbanks, Tok, Galena, and all those other interior towns can run down to -70F w/o wind-chill factor. Anchorage...moderate...fact is we still only have 1 inch of snow! 'Course, that's not normal....MUST be global warming.... Don't you feel warmer just thinking about it?? ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand" [This message has been edited by Wold (edited 12-13-2000).]
  11. Hey, good tips! Glad you decided to explain some of those moves!! I use those moves on a regular basis myself, though I have an automatic. I prefer a standard tranny for more control but.....*shrug* My current work car is an '87 Lincoln Mark 7 LSC (2 door) w/ 200K miles. Rear-wheel drive overshooting a corner can also be corrected by punching the gas-pedal. This will cause the back-end of the car to swing to the outside edge of the corner. I call this a "power-slide" and if done right is very affective at taking corners, not to mention fun. If done wrong you'll swap ends and be driving backwards or worse! The above move means knowing road conditions, your car, practice, and maybe a bit of "luck". I spend 3+ hrs a day driving on slick roads so am used to things, however, I do make my wife quite nerveous at times! Couse if speed is slow enough you may never exprience the thrill of driving sideways/backwards at 40mph ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  12. See, isn't this really fun?? Now you need to go into advanced settings and change your monitor from "generic" to match the one that you really do have. If there isn't an exact match, see if they have some drivers for some older models for the same mfg company. You may have to go into safe mode and delete the monitor there. Reboot into normal mode and win me should reinstall the monitor, hopefully the right one. Having the correct monitor settings will set up the right refresh rates and sync rates as well. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  13. If SC's suggestion doesn't pan out.... Built-in or on-board video cards are often hybrids and you need to get the drivers from the system board mfg. Did they send the system board manual w/ the pc? The video card should be listed there. Did they send you the system board CD? If they did there should be a video folder on that cd w/ the correct drivers. If not, you may need to pop the cover on the pc... get a flashlight and look at the system board. MFG name and model number should be printed on it somewhere. Hopefully it isn't some off-wall maker and you can find them on the internet. At that point you could search their site for drivers/board info or contact their tech support and they can tell you what you have. Have fun! ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  14. Yep, I could move to a warmer climate, but when it gets 85F+ I get light headed, sweat, and dizzy... yick... IMO, far easier to pile on the clothes to warm up! One can only strip off sooo many clothes before.... Light rain on long used roads.... oil floats a bit and you have black-ice type conditions: In a hurry & Don't think = GRID LOCK!! The military LOVES to send up warm-weather people to AK for a stint! Pretty easy to spot the rookie "winter" drivers up here! Pallet and a forklift as a snowplow?? Must admit that I haven't seen that particular trick before! How's that saying? "Cat is away the mouse will play? And you're right about speed... I've been on both sides of that particular coin!! Road closure?? What's that?? The first winter snowfall causes about 120 to 250 tow-truck required accidents in an 6-8 hr time frame before the "slow-down-idea" penetrates into ower frozen brains...and they still won't close roads! BTW: Here's a WALKING tip: Keep your weight forward on the balls of your feet, almost a tip-toe. If you start to slip it's much easier to catch your ballance. If your weight is solidly on your heels and you slip...KYBGB (ie, You'll need pain-reliever) ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  15. Hehe, no, this isn't in regards to dog sleds, snowmachines/snowmobiles, or even skiis. Contrary to popular opinions and school teachings (BTW, Alaska is NOT located southwest of California as most maps show ) we DO have roads (paved even) and motorized cars/trucks up here. This is prompted by 2 things: 1. 2 weeks ago my sister in Oregon missed a weather clue and went through a rail fence and then wrapped the passanger side of her car around a power pole, shattering said pole. Thank God she walked away w/ only a few scratches from shattered glass and some VERY sore muscles, bones, and neck. BTW, her car was BADLY mangled. 2. I just took a trip to Glennallen (for work) 186 miles 1 way. It was amazing how many diffent types of road conditions I ran into in those few miles. I've been driving in AK (Alaska) for 20 years. What follows is a few things that I've learned the hard way and by observing others predicaments. That 2nd one is FAR more intertaining! Keep in mind that I'm NOT a professional driver and NONE of the following is endorsed by anyone. **************** A coefficient of friction is what keeps your car stuck to the ice and it constantly changes. When this is broken, a slide occurs and when it is regained, your slide will stop. Remember, when in a slide momentum will push the car in a straight line in IT'S desired direction, not necessarally your desired direction. -Avoid unnecessary SUDDEN moves such as stomping the gas, breaks, or jerking the steering wheel. A miss by 6 inches is as good as miss by 10 feet, except for the adrenaliane rush. Jerking the wheel trying for a 10ft miss could cause the car to slide--straight to what you were trying to avoid. More then once I've settled for a 1ft miss and avoided an accident. -Weather. Fog and temps 34F or lower can cause "black" ice. Especially in valleys, gullies, bridges, etc. where a breeze can cool the surface, much like a refridgerator works. Also note that if the ground/street is cold enough moisture can freeze on the surface even if the air is too warm for ice. This is the weather condition or clue that my sister missed. -Tires. Performance of all weather tires will decrease in colder weather. As the rubber gets colder it gets harder, reducing traction. Rubber for winter or snow tires is geared for lower temps and that improves their traction. It's not just the studs in snow tires. -Frost Heaves. Bumps, or dips caused from cold temps and the way the ground freezes up. Often undetectable until it's way to late to miss them. I've seen cars going 40 mph go airborn over these, not to mention doing it myself. VERY bad when it occurs on corners!! -Corners. Coast through them. Break well before the corner and accelerate AFTER the corner. DON'T hit the gas when exiting an icy corner...IF the car slides it will launch off the road or into oncoming traffic. This is what my sister did when she hit black ice on the back side of a corner. ***************** Vehicle Quirks -- every car/truck responds differently. Get used to your vehicle and how it responds to slides/breaking/accelerating on ice if you can. Some places have such limited contact w/ snow and ice that this isn't really possible. -Anti-lock breaks. These are WONDERFUL. This is an acception where SUDDEN is good, if needed. Smack that peddle to the floor boards and leave it there regardless of what they sound like. I've driven some cars where it sounded as if the axel was falling off. Also note that the break pedal will push BACK against your foot. -Rear Wheel Drive, STANDARD Transmission. Do NOT downshift on ice. The sudden change in tire speed/drag can cause the back end to fishtail or swing from side to side. I used 3 lanes of road to learn this one and I was going 45mph when I made the first downshift. I got the car back under control and not knowing what I did I downshifted again, causing the process to start all over. -Rear Wheel and Front Wheel drives, AUTOMATIC Transmission. Breaking causes the vehicle weight to shift forward causing weight on back wheels to drop. Coupled with the engine throttling down (your foot is no longer on the gas pedal) the back wheels can slide before the front causing the back to swing or fish tail. In a corner it can cause a spin. -4 Wheel/All Wheel drive. I see more of these guys/gals (being "politically" correct here) in the ditch than 2 wheel drives, front or rear, combinded. WHY? Simple, they assume (tisk tisk) that because they can take off faster on ice they can stop faster. WRONG! Why? Because 2-wheel drive cars have 4 wheel breaks, just like 4 wheel drives. Most of these tend to be SUVs (also known as Stupid Ugly Vehicles, no offense intended-some aren't ugly) and when they go off the road side ways they can flip over and even barrel roll. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"

  18. [rp] Wold's mind was calm now. The civilian business didn't bother him. If this was an elaborate trap he was already cought and if there was a job to do then the tools would be given when it was time. Leaning back in the chair he gave a nod to Rattler and Savage and waited patiently for the rest of the briefing. 19. I Voted... And no, Nader can't turn over his votes after the election to help another canidate. He would have to do that before the election by dropping out of the running. Of course if there is another election held in Florida, or even in some districts because of some mismanagement then the voters could rethink their positions.... ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"

  21. Welcome aboard Cptn. John Hawk! I don't know for sure if the IOD power setting affects range, but when I have it set to 10% going for starstation capture it seems that I have to get pretty close before I hear the shots hitting home so my guess would be that range is affected by the power setting. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  22. I double checked w/ Blades and I'm the new arrival he refered to.. [rp] 2317 hrs. May 18, 3008 command deck area, Vulture Gabe's jaw dropped, for on the command deck of the Vulture was Savage. His mind whirled with conclusions that Galcom had caught wind of the meeting and had somehow captured Rattler or had laid an elaborate trap for insurgent commanders. Something else caught his eye and sent a cold chill down his spine. From around various corners of hatches and consoles poked the business ends of weapons. On one of the weapons was scope looking device that emitted a beam from the upper end of the light spectrum. The camo suit attempted to recalibrate which resulted in a bizaar looking apperation to the on-lookers. The observers saw the whole spectrum of the rainbow swirling around the camo suit in a rather phsycidelic manner. Savage looked as if he had really bitten into something sour and dearly wanted to give the order to fire but somehow refrained himself. Gabe's hands had instantly began moving away from his body and at the same time pointed to the sides, away from Savage. "Loose the hardware bunny, Rattler says that you're one of his." With that Savage turns back to his previous task before the interuption. With a shrug, and not really that many options, Gabe strips the hardware off and hands it over to a rather board looking merc. After passing the scans and getting the okay from the security team he heads for the nearest food dispenser for something to quell the stomach rumbles while waiting for whatever happens next. [/rp]

  24. Sheesh! Now that things have started.... time to catch up!!! Commercial break is over... now the continuation [rp] 0741 hrs, 17th May, 3008 Freighter Korepus ...a high ranking Gammulan Assassin. He (Wold) froze for several seconds as his eye's tried to bug out of his head at this surprise. The mind became flooded with a dozen questions, most dominant being why was that assassin on this ship?? The gammulan's laughter snapped off as if a switch had been thrown. Looking conteptuously at the eyeball peaking at him from around the corner he responds in a very heavy, but understandable, english. "You, Human, are my entertainment, for a few hours anyway. The real target is someone by the name of Savage. Enjoy your last hours human!" With that, he snapped his face covering back down and trotted down a different corridor. "OH CRAP!" slipped past Wold's lips as this news sent a chill down his back. Not that he was concerned about Savage. No, as far as he felt any dead lemming, especially a leader, was good for the Insurgency. Nope, what bothered him was the fact that somehow he had gotten between the two and that was BAD for breathing. Thinking back he remembered that Gammulan assassins were raised that way from the minute they were weened(or whatever they called it) from their mothers. And passing school was even uglier. A team of five would be sent out for a live hunt against another team of five and the team with any survivors graduated. The others given a nice burial for their efforts. Wold knew there was no way he could win a fight on the gams terms; therefore, time to even the playing field. Bolting to the nearest maint. shop a few things were grabbed in a small, but now heavy bag. With the borrowed goodies he high-tails it back to the sanctuary, he hopes, of the cubical. Once in the cubical the rapid, but very careful work began. Yanking the cover off the back of the palm id plate he begins the modifications. The high current relay is wired into the low voltage supply to the id plate. Next a high voltage shunt is placed between the heavy splicing wire and the relay input then covered with the spark arrester. Praying he got it right, he drags the other end of the thick splicing wire to the high votlage/high current bus line in the back wall. Using the live splicing joint, (used normally for emergency power repairs), the parasite cable becomes attached to the main bus power. There is now 25KWs of power sitting at the id plate. Now, the wait. 0900 hrs, 17 May 3008 Disconnecting the thermite, Wold quiries the mini-comp to see what it had dug up, and gets a minor surprise. The surprise would have been a lot greater if he hadn't already run into that assassin. The cargo in this tub had a fair amount of illigal items, but the majority of it looked like a warship resupply load. Further persuit into the captains private message area the warship turned out to be a gam hiding out around Pixan. Thinking about this for a few minutes, he makes up his mind about a solution to this supply train, assuming that he beats the killer. Shrugging, he cleans out the space under the slab and moves the bedding under it. Grabbing the needler he lays down to wait it out, thinking of the wife he left back at Spectre. Somewhere in there he dozed off and dreams of a not so pleasent time drift into his mind. Dreams of being flayed open for bio-enhancment surgery, shots, and therapy. Since all this was medical experiments pain killers weren't allowed as they would skew the results. Unconscious was how he spent most of the time, when they would let him. Somehow he had kept the successes of the experiments from them until his escape. The experience had left him with a stronger bone structure and higher muscle efficiency. The muscle enhancements ment better endurance and faster reflexes. However, the horrors buried in the recesses of his mind had kept him from doing any real training that would take advantage of these hard earned tools. 1611 hrs The sharp crack and hissing accompanied with a distinctly burning sour rubber smell suddenly filled the air. Wold abruptly waking and sitting up cracks his head on the low slab that nearly knocked him cold, but did chase the nightmares away. Eyes watering and adjusting to the light he gets to the door. Grabbing the shunt he disconnects the power to the id plate and is greeted with the thumping sound of something hitting the deck. Needler in left hand he pry's the dead door open and peeks through the slit, spotting the gammulan assassin on the floor. Taking no chances the needler coughs a few darts to the head of the gammulan. After searching the corps there's only two things that he decides to take: the camo suite and the social id badge from the collar. The rest, including the gam, got shoved out the air lock. 1800 hrs The mess hall door swooshes open with Cmdr. Wold standing in the entry way. Greeting him was the aroma of sweet 'n sour chicken, though he seriously doubted that zelons would eat chicken. The ship's commander was sitting at the head of the table with 4 crewmemmbers on each side. At the sound of the door all heads had turned to see who was joining them. From the sudden blanching of the commanders face, Wold guessed that they didn't expect to see him standing there. The look on his face kept the zelon's frozen in place as he approaced the ship's commander. Stopping 3 meters short of the table he addresses the group as a whole in a low, unemotional voice, "Your gammulan friend is out the air lock. You have 2 choices: Grab the neares escape pods and run, or die. BTW, the self-destruct sequence is disabled and starting now, you have 30 seconds to be off this ship or your blood will stain the decks." His answer was the immediate bolting of 9 zelons as they scrambled for the escape pods. Moving to the bridge with his mini-comp, he begins the tedious task of transfering ownership of the vessel to his new assumed name of Gabriel as well as registering the vessel as the UCV-Nancy. Having done all this the auto-pilot is activated and the journey to Pixan Station continues. 1000 hrs, May 18 3008 Pixan Starstation, Bay 13 Stepping off the UCV-Nancy Gabriel instantly knows that his assumption was correct. He needed to make a name for himself in a hurry if he was going to get anywhere in this cesspool. Picking the roughest looking bar called the "Elbow Room" he shoves his way to the bar and spots the bar tender in an arguement with some patron at the other end. He interupts the discussion With a loud shout "BARTENDER, GET ME A COKE, NOW!" and gets the desired results. The defening silence was amazing. Everyone was stunned at this unseeming order and turned to look at the idiot that had issued it. The bartender turned his beady-red eyes to Gabe and begins walking towards him with his physique displaying the rising anger. The bartender reaching the destination, the muscles bunching as he gets ready to pound the insufferable snot in front of him, get's interuppted by a ringing sound on the bar at his elbow. Glancing down the bartender stops cold as the significance of the badge registers. Gabriel wispers to him "Why don't you explain to the good patrons of this bar what that is?" As the bartender obliges, Gabe turns and addresses the crowd himself. "He's right folks, gammulan assassin, and I earned it the hard way. My name is Gabriel and my vessel is the UCV-Nancy. She's in bay 13. My suggestion is that she be left alone. I suggest you all spread the word. Finally, the next 5 rounds are on me." The last is greeted with a very rowdy cheer and the word spread at light speed through the station. Turning back to the bartender Gabe gets the last request in. "I need a personal meeting with station command, can you arrange that?" "I believe so, let me contact them and see what can be done." Gabe drinkning his coke and watching the bedlam around him waits for 15 before the bartender returns. The meeting is set for 1500 hrs. 1500 hrs, May 18 3008 Pixan Control Room "You know that this is highly irregular?" questions the station commander. She is a tall, anarexic looking with jet black hair with large brown eyes, angular face and sallow cheecks. And NO humor. "Absolutely irregular. But trust me, when I'm done you'll be satisfied that your time wasn't wasted." responds Gabe. "I'm going to be unavailable for an indeterminate amount of time and I need a safe haven for my ship." This brought a snort from all 3 Pixan leaders in the room at the concept of Pixan being a safe haven. "I'll also pay double docking fees for each day for tying up bay 13." Getting up Gabe gets to door before he is interupted. "You interupted our day for that?? That could have been arranged over the computer!" Turning, Gabe sees that she really is ticked. Grinning, he answers her, "No, there is one more thing. I don't think you want this announced though. The ship is rigged. If it is disconnected from this station, or someone besides me gets on board, or an airlock is so much as opened you can kiss it, and this station goodbye." With that information dropped on them Gabe turns and vanishes out the door. 2300 hrs. May 18, 3008 SS Vulture Due to the secretive nature of things and the happenings in route Wold, aka Gabriel, decides to make use of the newly aquired camo-suit and makes his way on board the SS Vulture. Working his way through the ship he reaches the command deck at 2317 hrs. and is greeted by a strange sight. [/rp] Okay folks, I'm here. ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  25. I've run the BC planet side and you just have to keep the nose up. I use the ms ff joystick and all 8 buttons(16 w/shift button) and it works just fine for me, including the throttle. Remember, you have to use enough vertical thrust to get past the planet's escape velocity. Throttle may not be enough so hit the afterburner. Until you memorize the controls, use a scrap piece of paper with the VTOL key strokes handy, I do! ------------------ Commodore Wold ICV-Drakr, Spectre HQ (Antis) Commanding Officer, Spectre HQ Spectre Fleet ICQ 4669033 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
