Eve update: Well, the Alpha test will be over officially tonight. Now the real beta test begins with paying customers doing the bug hunting. Should go over like a Lead Zeppelin. I predict that the SSI' marketing Manager in charge of Eve will be looking for work by the end of May. I don't know who sent you that rant, SC, but they were pretty accurate in their assessment of this so called beta. To me Beta testing implies shaking the bugs out of completed code I didn't get in on the test until the final phase (7) and they were still adding content in a piecemeal fashion all the way through it. The game will be released with the higher game functions being relatively untested. I'm talking the parts that will take the player a very long time to reach. They decided to test this part of the program on the last day of testing as an Armageddon day. They gave all active characters a bank full of money and made Battleships available along with alot of goodies for these ships and porked everything in the process. I couldn't make a gate jump without getting a system error, then after a jump I was dead in space until I relogged. They have a great idea and premise, just very very poor execution and mismanaged testing. It will die a rapid death and fall off the radar like all the others. Pity, really. It had great potential.

Eve has gone gold, they plan on going live May 6th. And it's just as I expected. In my opinion,it isn't quite ready. I still get numerous system errors and many random crashes to desktop. So it is just as I mentioned above, the publisher, Simon & Schuster Interactive is going to shove it out the door incomplete to start the cash flow and worry about fixing bugs and play balance later. Thereiscurrentlyone especially aggregious balance issue I have had the displeasure of experiencing that is going to lose them a great many subscribers. IE: It has to do with your AE's security status. Which you easily trash by doing nothing more than taking a pot shot at another player. If another player has a less than stellar security rating, they will pop up as a threat causing your targeting sytem to automatically lock them, This isn't too bad, unless you are fighting pirate NPC's Then this other player gets locked by your sensors and gets shot by your weapons. THen you get an immediate message that the authorities are going to hunt you down and kill you, which they do with great fervor. I lost three very expensive ships for doing nothing more than taking an accidental shot at another player while battling pirates. I could understand having the peacekeepers hunting you down if you killed another player. But the only way to kill someone is to destroy their ship then perform an action called podding . After your ship is blown out from under your butt, you end up in an escape pod for the return trip to a station to pick up another noob ship from the insurance company. Destroying a pod leaves the players' frozen corpse floating in space. Eve has a long learning curve with a very very basic tutorial when you start. There is still some content missing and they will be tweaking the hardware right up to the live date, but it runs better now than when I started, except for those aggravating random CTD's. You can do just as well in the game playing as an indy but the real wealth can only be gained by joining or starting a corporation where all the members work together to advance the agenda and the treasury I foresee the 3000AD corporation owning a system or two You would make a great CEO, SC It's all setup in GUI with lots of windows and menus to drill down into. Icons galore too. It will be frustrating for newbs trying to build up a ship after they spend a fortune on new items only to find out they don't have a specific skill needed to fit or use these items. The skill system is set up in a rank and level fashion Where it takes five levels to advance a skill rank. I had one skill level that reported a total training time of 145 days to complete. we're talking real time days here folks. But the nice thing is that the skill training timer runs whether you are logged on or not. So we're talking months or even years to max out a character. I'm thinking Ebay, here I come. Eve has the potential to succeed just as big as EQ. only time will tell.

As far asI can tell the test is coming along nicely. I like the game because it is supremely challenging. It has some boring parts, but then again, what mmorpg doesn't have? They are in constant communication with the CIA, the FBI, Interpol, NATO, The United Nations, our own military, and that of our allies around the world. We cannot simply believe that we have full knowledge of the threats because we watch CNN!! We cannot believe that we are in any way as informed as our leaders. These celebrities have no intelligence-gathering agents, no fact-finding groups, no insight into the minds of those who would destroy our country. They only have a deep-seated hatred for all things Republican. By nature, and no one knows quite why, the Hollywood elitists detest Conservative views and anything that supports or uplifts the United States of America. The silence was deafening from the Left when Bill Clinton bombed a pharmaceutical factory outside of Khartoum, or when he attacked the Bosnian Serbs in 1995 and 1999. He bombed Serbia itself to get Slobodan Milosevic out of Kosovo, and not a single peace rally was held. When our Rangers were ambushed in Somalia and 18 young American lives were lost,not a peep was heard from Hollywood. Yet now, after our nation has been attacked on its own soil, after 3,000 Americans were killed by freedom-hating terrorists while going about their routine lives, they want to hold rallies against the war. Why the change? Because an honest, God-fearing Republican sits in the White House. Another irony is that in 1987, when Ronald Reagan was in office, the Hollywood group aligned themselves with disarmament groups like SANE, FREEZE and PEACE ACTION, urging our own government to disarm and freeze the manufacturing of any further nuclear weapons, in order to promote world peace. It is curious that now, even after we have heard all the evidence that Saddam Hussein has chemical, biological and is very close to obtaining nuclear weapons, their is no cry from this group for HIM to disarm. They believe we should leave him alone in his quest for these weapons of mass destruction, even though it is certain that these deadly weapons will eventually be used against us in our own cities. So why the hype out of Hollywood? Could these celebrities believe that since they draw such astronomical salaries, they are entitled to also determine the course of our Nation? That they can make viable decisions concerning war and peace? Did Michael Moore have the backing of the Nation when he recently thanked France, on our behalf, for being a "good enough friend to tell us we were wrong"? I know for certain he was not speaking for me. Does Sean Penn fancy himself a diplomat, in going to Iraq when we are just weeks away from war? Does he believe that his high school diploma gives him the knowledge (and the right) to go to a country that is controlled by a maniacal dictator, and speak on behalf of the American people? Or is it the fact that he pulls in more money per year than the average American worker will see in a lifetime? Does his bank account give him clout? The ultimate irony is that many of these celebrities have made a shambles of their own lives, with drug abuse, alcoholism, numerous marriages and divorces, scrapes with the law, publicized temper tantrums, etc. How dare they pretend to know what is best for an entire nation! What is even more bizarre is how many people in this country will listen and accept their views, simply because they liked them in a certain movie, or have fond memories of an old television sitcom! It is time for us, as citizens of the United States, to educate ourselves about the world around us. If future generations are going to enjoy the freedoms that our forefathers bequeathed us, if they are ever to know peace in their own country and their world, to live without fear of terrorism striking in their own cities, we must assure that this nation remains strong. We must make certain that those who would destroy us are made aware of the severe consequences that will befall them. Yes, it is a wonderful dream to sit down with dictators and terrorists and join hands, singing Cumbaya and talking of world peace. But it is not real. We did not stop Adolf Hitler from taking over the entire continent of Europe by simply talking to him. We sent our best and brightest, with the strength and determination that this Country is known for, and defeated the Nazi regime. President John F. Kennedy did not stop the Soviet ships from unloading their nuclear missiles in Cuba in 1962 with mere words. He stopped them with action, and threat of immediate war if the ships did not turn around. We did not end the Cold War with conferences. It ended with the strong belief of President Ronald Reagan... PEACE through STRENGTH.
